Chapter 7 - The Great Son of Poseidon: Chapter 4

The moon was higher now, casting a silver path across the bay, a bridge that only gods could traverse.

Artemis stood at the edge of the balcony, looking out into the distance. Percy remained behind her, unmoving.

She finally broke the silence by saying, "I can't stay."

"I'm not asking you to," Percy replied in a low voice. "Not as a mortal. Not as a goddess. Just… stay when the moon rises."

She looked at him and said, "You know what I am."

"I've always known." He stepped forward, a passionate but quiet fire in his eyes.

"But even gods carry silence like a wound, and you—yours was the kind that sang of winter, of wild places untouched by time. You were not just a vow or a legend. You were the moon refusing to be claimed—beautiful not because you were distant, but because you chose to remain so."

A breath passed, but to Percy- it felt like an eternity.

Then she turned, her presence fading step by step, until only the sea held her reflection

He did not endeavour to stop her.

For he knew the moon would find the sea again, and when it did, the tides would rise to meet her—

as they had in the first dawn,

as they would in the last twilight,

until the sky itself forgot the name of night.
