Chapter 6: Secrets Supplicant
When Lu Ze emerged from the room, the scene had already been thoroughly cleaned.
The altar, once covered in blood and flesh, had vanished, and police officers were wiping the floor.
Siris's body, wrapped in a white sheet, was carried out the door by several police officers.
"Captain."
Upon seeing Dunn, the green-eyed Nighthawks member approached him proactively, "What's the verdict?"
He subtly tilted his chin towards Lu Ze, asking for Dunn's decision on how to handle the situation.
"Temporarily safe."
Dunn replied, "They are merely innocent people who got caught up in this."
"Since everything's fine now, can my brother and I leave?"
Cecilia ran to Lu Ze's side, linked her arm through his, and asked.
"I'm afraid not."
Dunn said gently yet unequivocally, "Both of you must come with me."
Cecilia frowned, her pretty brows furrowing.
"Why?"
She asked stiffly, even a little rudely, her hand unconsciously gripping Lu Ze's arm tighter, "Do we need to pay bail? Officer, we're penniless right now; you won't get any leverage from us."
Cecilia's small body trembled as she stood in front of Lu Ze, glaring at Dunn, looking like a protective tigress defending her cub.
In fact, when Dunn had wanted to question Lu Ze alone, she had expressed strong protest, only to be calmed down by Lu Ze.
Now that the hope of leaving was shattered, her previously accumulated dissatisfaction erupted.
Dunn calmly watched the defiant young girl, not showing the slightest anger; on the contrary, his expression was very gentle.
"Calm down, Cecilia, it's not like that."
Lu Ze quickly interrupted his sister, "It's because there are still bad guys at large, and Mr. Dunn is protecting us."
After a detailed explanation, Cecilia finally understood the situation and agreed to accept protection, heading to the Nighthawks' headquarters.
After greeting the busy police officers at the scene, the three Nighthawks, along with the Longdaoer siblings, left Siris's house.
Outside, two carriages were already waiting for them.
Both carriages were four-wheeled, drawn by a single horse, and had coachmen.
The side of the carriage body was emblazoned with the police system's emblem—two crossed longswords embracing and guarding a crown.
Lu Ze, Dunn, and the green-eyed Nighthawks member boarded one carriage, while Cecilia and the brown-eyed Nighthawks member boarded the other.
To avoid suspicion, a female police officer was also arranged in that carriage.
Upon opening the carriage door, a thick carpet was laid inside, and it seemed to have incense sprinkled, emitting a soft fragrance that made one feel at ease.
The interior decoration is really good, much more upscale than it looked from the outside, Lu Ze thought, raising his head, and suddenly he was sharply jolted.
It turned out that deep inside the carriage, a peculiar emblem was hanging, as large as his sister's fist.
The emblem had a deep black background, adorned with stars, and these stars clustered around exactly half of a crimson moon.
Overall, this emblem appeared lofty and sacred, symbolizing the Evernight Goddess's "Evernight Holy Emblem."
The moment Lu Ze's gaze met the emblem, it suddenly emitted an invisible wave that directly penetrated his body; this was why Lu Ze's body suddenly jolted.
The invisible wave circled within his body once and then disappeared, with nothing else happening.
What the hell?
Lu Ze grumbled inwardly, but then he saw the two Nighthawks staring intently at him, their hands on their weapons.
"What's wrong?"
He couldn't help but ask.
"...Even the [Goddess's Gaze] didn't detect anything unusual about you; it seems you really are fine."
Dunn looked at him calmly for a few seconds, then relaxed his body and said faintly, "Get in, just sit wherever you like."
He said it lightly, but Lu Ze's eyes widened.
It turned out they hadn't completely trusted him yet; instead, they had prepared investigative methods, planning a sudden attack when he relaxed.
What an experienced fellow.
Lu Ze gave Dunn a deep look.
If he guessed correctly, his sister should also be undergoing the same test in the other carriage.
Indeed, anyone who could become the captain of a Beyonder organization was certainly no ordinary person.
After getting into the carriage and sitting down, the carriage swayed once and began to move forward.
Since the suspicion is gone, why don't I try to inquire about the situation?
Lu Ze thought.
Stepping on the soft carpet, he carefully began to speak.
"Mr. Dunn, what exactly are Beyonders and the Beyonder world? I've experienced something like this today, and I'd like to understand more.
If possible, could you explain it to me?"
"Of course."
Dunn took off his police cap, revealing his receding hairline, "Then I'll explain some common knowledge."
So, in the time that followed, Lu Ze learned some basic knowledge about Beyonders, including Beyonders, potions, Sequence Pathways, Beyonder abilities, rituals, and so on.
As expected, this world has Beyonders who can wield mysterious powers.
Lu Ze asked with a mix of anticipation and apprehension, "Then what's my situation? Why would you think I'm already a Beyonder? Uh, I think I heard you mention this in my dream..."
"Regarding this part, it involves confidential information, so I can't go into too much detail; I can only tell you briefly.
And even so, after you hear my explanation, you mustn't spread this information indiscriminately.
Can you accept that?"
Dunn asked, stroking his police cap.
"No problem, I won't spread it around."
Lu Ze's life and property were currently in their hands, so even if he didn't want to, he could only say yes, not to mention he was genuinely a little curious.
"Hmm... Before that, I need to ask you, after Siris died, did you come into contact with any strange substance that precipitated from his body?"
As soon as Dunn asked this, Lu Ze immediately thought of the small black ball.
"Uh, I did indeed eat a small ball that came out of his palm, and I felt uncomfortable for a while afterward.
But I didn't intentionally touch it; it was because Siris suddenly played dead and lunged at me, I was startled and accidentally swallowed it."
Lu Ze replied, downplaying the crucial details, "Could it be that because of this, I became a Beyonder?"
"Hmm, it's pretty much what I suspected."
Dunn nodded, "Regarding this, I can only tell you that the bodies of deceased Beyonders undergo mutations and may precipitate Beyonder characteristics.
In certain circumstances, it's possible for others to inherit characteristics from the deceased.
And whether you're lucky or unlucky, you've become a Beyonder in this way."
Oh, no wonder!
That little ball was the reason I became a Beyonder!
Lu Ze immediately understood, "So when you arrived at the scene and saw no Beyonder characteristic, you suspected I had eaten it?"
"You could say that,"
Dunn nodded, "But the specific situation was understood after Klein, that is, the Nighthawks in the other carriage, performed a divination.
He is a Sequence 9 'Seer.'"
Seer? That sounds like a powerful profession; I wonder to what extent he can divine.
He shouldn't be able to discover my secrets, otherwise, I would have been captured and dissected by them long ago.
Lu Ze thought to himself, half-fearful and half-relieved.
"So, what Pathway is the Beyonder characteristic I ate from, and what is the name of the Sequence 9 potion?"
No sooner had he finished asking than he saw the expressions of the two people opposite him darken for a moment.
What's going on? Could it be that my Pathway is a bit dangerous?
It seems possible, after all, that's a Sequence belonging to a cultist!
Lu Ze thought.
He saw the two exchange glances, and finally, Dunn slowly spoke:
"According to the Nighthawks' internal files, the name of the Sequence 9 potion for the Pathway Siris belonged to should be..."
"Secrets Supplicant."
