Chapter 1 - Orio Family

The northernmost town of The Kingdom of Solitude has been invaded. The region has been recategorized as The Bay of the Lost.

The Bay of the Lost isn't a kingdom. Nor is it a people. It is land in which monsters dwell. Land in which no person could possibly survive.

The town received several warnings from the Scouts of Solitude. Proclamation of how the land will soon be invaded by hoards of incoming monsters. Scowling the Earth. In search of flesh. Many of the residents hurriedly gathered their precious things and rode on horseback in order to escape.

However, some were reluctant to part with the town. Maybe it was unwillingness to part with their simple way of life. Maybe they wanted to bring an end to the advancement of the monsters. Far overestimating their own abilities while pursuing the goal of estimating themselves as Heroes. A few of the older folk who have moved from place to place for years awaited their death. Being too tired to continue this cycle.

There was a single young man living on the far outskirts of the town. It may be upwards of a fifteen minute walk in order to reach the town. Some may say that he isn't even on the border of the town. A mysterious teenager who doesn't seem to have any parents or relatives. Sits in a wooden cabin.

This young man is not leaving the village and it's not due to him wishing to die. It's not due to being unwilling to part with the town. It's also not due to wanting to become a hero.

It's quite simple really. The true reason for this man. Older boy. Standing his ground. In fact sitting on a small wooden chair while snacking on some recently harvested blue berries without a care in the world. Some may see him as a fearless man who doesn't cower in the face's of monsters. However the reason he stays is.

No one told him.

In what could be described as a mass organized panic. Everyone was far too focused on themselves in order to warn the boy of the appending doom.

Most of the townspeople were actually new here. The village used to be home to no more than twenty people. However with land becoming a part of The Bay of the Lost. Many residents moved from several towns over in order to live.

A majority of the people who have moved here did not know too much about the boy. He would sometimes come into town to buy stuff. He had blue hair that almost reached his eyes. With a somewhat attractive face. His clothes mostly consisted of a black tunic, a set of worn down brown shoes, and dark blue pants.

He was decently tall too.

He has also been living in this town for nearly all of his life. The residents who knew him have for the most part all moved away. Including his younger sister and younger brother.

The name which people refer to him as is.

Altorious Flux

Which is a rather strange name so he always attempts to go with the nickname

Orio

Which his younger brother kind of came up with. He would normally call him bubby, or bubbu, but eventually his mother attempted to spell out the name for him. A young kid like that was completely unable to pronounce it.

So he could only say Atowis and the mother was so proud of it. She picked him up and nuzzled his cheek. Which taught him to continue calling him that, and Mother consistently jokingly calling the young Altorious, Atowis.

Which for some reason at that age he despised. Eventually however it started growing on him.

Though being called something that ridiculous was not going to happen. However, the nickname part was good.

Though once the young boy got a little older he started calling him by all sorts of names in order to get Mother's love. Which there wasn't a lack of. Greedy little thing.

He would call him "alto, rious, atoris, atlantis, suoirol, otla," and all kinds of ridiculous things! Every single time he would do this their Mother would laugh and rub her face on his. Saying how creative the young boy is.

Eventually he called him "Orio." This was during Mothers final moments. She slowly reached out to pat the young boy on the head.

"I love it," She slowly said.

She got sick and was bed ridden for a few days. Before passing.

"It happened way too fast", an older woman said at her burial.

"Who's going to take care of the kids?" A younger woman asks.

"I don't know but I have enough mouths to feed." Another woman remarks.

The young trio was devastated by their loving mother's loss.

However, someone had to step up. That became Rio's job. A nice farmer offered to give him and his family food as long as he helped out on the farm.

Long story short he took care of them until his fifteenth birthday. That was because he saved up enough to get them into a school. They were reluctant to leave. Ariel argued about how she wasn't willing to leave him alone. While young Acay was wanting his older brother to come with them.

However he only saved up enough for them. He eventually got them to leave under the promise that once he saved enough that he would go too.

Watching as they left on a carriage heading towards a large city near the capitol. Waving them off while trying to keep himself from crying.

That was almost a year ago now.

Orio continued working as usual until the kind old man died. The old man left the property to Orio. He had no children or anybody related to him in the village. Orio found himself alone.

He would tend to the farms alone in order to save enough to fulfill his promise.

He did attempt to sell the farms however no one was willing to buy it because The Bay of the Lost was getting closer.

'What's an investment opportunity if it's gone within a few years.' Orio knew how they thought.

Little did Orio know. That it wouldn't be a few years.

The day of reckoning has arrived...
