Chapter 67 - A Deal's a Deal, Heh, Little Lady

"Since you don't know, let's put the memory issue aside for now and talk about some common sense problems."

Just in case, Leon decided it would be best to test the probability of her being human.

"Common sense?"

March 7th tilted her head, clearly not understanding.

"Yes, common sense. For example, what should you do when you're hungry?"

Leon threw out the first question.

"What is 'hungry'?"

March 7th didn't understand and asked honestly.

'Doesn't seem human.'

After hearing her answer, Leon came to a preliminary conclusion.

"You'll understand once you get hungry later."

Leon planned to take her out for a bit.

Buy some clothes, have a meal. Once the food is in her mouth, she'll know what 'hungry' means.

"Come on, second question."

Leon spoke up to continue.

"Suppose this is your home, and you're out for a walk. If it suddenly starts raining and your home is just a few dozen steps away, what should you do?"

He felt he had made it clear enough.

He'd even laid the answer out in the open; you could say anyone would know how to respond.

And what about our contestant, March 7th?

"What is 'rain'?"

Unsurprisingly, an answer not much different from the last one.

March 7th blinked, the clarity in her eyes was unmistakable.

Six hundred sixty-six, ninety-nine paths to clear the stage, yet she managed to find the only one that led to failure.

Leon complained internally.

This kid is unbelievable!

Utterly hopeless!

No need for a third question. Leon made his final judgment, already looking at her with a gaze full of pity.

Doesn't know to eat when hungry, doesn't know to run home when it rains.

The verdict: One silly girl.

My assessment: A lost cause, just waiting to die.

Haha, he had to admit, March 7th's series of answers made him, a guy who at least knew to eat when hungry and run home from the rain, crack up.

"Tell me, do you know what the thing you're wearing is called?"

Leon pointed at the trench coat he had personally put on her.

That trench coat was a gift from the Yaoqing.

He was tall and broad-shouldered. While not quite at the level of a double-door refrigerator, his coat was more than enough to cover March 7th's entire body.

It could even pass for some sort of kinky play.

"I don't know…"

After he finished speaking, March 7th looked down at herself, then shook her head.

"Haha, you're a new level of pure."

Leon couldn't help but roast her.

For Pete's sake, what in the world did Fuli entrust to me? She has zero common sense. Does this mean I have to teach her everything myself?

Wait, I'm supposed to teach her?

Is she a person of Remembrance or a person of The Hunt?

Our paths don't even align, how is this my responsibility?

"Listen up. You might not understand what I'm about to say, and you can be confused, but no matter what, you must do exactly as I tell you."

Leon said seriously, looking like he was teaching a child.

"This will help you live a normal life, understand?"

Sigh, the kid is so naive. I guess I should look after her.

"Mhm…"

March 7th gave a cute, blank nod, her expression showing she would listen to whatever he said.

Although she didn't know what this emotion was, she had a vague feeling that the person in front of her would never harm her.

"You'd better really do as I say."

Leon sincerely hoped she would actually take to heart what he was about to say.

"I will!"

March 7th nodded, having extracted a word from his sentence to use as her reply.

Leon sighed.

Then, he proceeded to lecture her on everything from basic biology to daily life, from the concept of shame to what one needs to do to survive. It's safe to say he taught her everything he could.

"Did you remember it all?"

He asked afterward.

"I remembered."

Although it was clear from March 7th's expression that she didn't really understand what he'd said, at least she had genuinely listened.

"Good, since you've remembered it, let's have a pop quiz."

Leon said, feeling mentally exhausted.

"What do you do when you're hungry?"

"Eat!"

March 7th gave a template answer.

Meaning, she had only memorized the answer, without knowing the process of how to arrive at it.

"And when it rains?"

Leon didn't push for more for the time being. As long as she knew the concept, that was enough. Understanding could come later.

"Go home!"

March 7th answered fluently. It seemed she had paid attention in class.

"Normally, you should?"

Leon nodded, reasonably satisfied.

"Wear clothes!"

"What do you do when you run into trouble?"

"Find Leon!"

March 7th looked completely serious.

"Good that you remembered. At least for the time I'm with you, you can come to me with any problem, got it?"

Leon smiled in relief.

When you raise a child into a person, you also smile with relief. It's only human.

"I bought you a set of clothes."

As Leon spoke, he picked up a shopping bag with a brand logo from beside the bed.

"Make do with this for now. You can pick something more to your taste later."

After speaking, Leon got up and left, closing the door behind him.

Outside the door.

Leon contemplated his next objectives.

Increase his Pathstriding levels for The Hunt or Elation to get stats, wait for news from Black Swan, and go to Amphoreus.

And also…

"I need to find a trace of the Astral Express."

Find out where in the universe the Astral Express is currently traveling.

After some thought, Leon planned to send March 7th back, or leaving her on the Xianzhou would also be an option.

The games he played were all high-stakes, the kind where only those at the Emanator level or above were qualified to join.

He currently couldn't see any great potential in March 7th.

Perhaps she just hadn't shown it yet, but her current stats were practically non-existent.

If Fuli hadn't left some backup plan for her, then following him would be a speedrun to a death ending. One could only say that the challenges he faced were far beyond mid-tier.

Especially after having once again directly faced the pressure brought by an Aeon.

Leon truly felt it was better to act alone. Being a one-man army was the most comfortable.

In any case, as long as he kept March 7th safe until Fuli came asking for her, the favor he owed Fuli would still be considered repaid.

Leon leaned against the doorframe, lost in thought. After a short while, the door creaked open.

He glanced over. A lovely young girl appeared in the corner of his eye, her delicate features filled with a curiosity about everything.

She wore a moon-white beret, a white long-sleeved shirt paired with a dark blue skirt, and her calves, wrapped in white mid-calf socks, were in a pair of small black leather shoes.

It's just that the outer coat didn't match the rest, clearly not part of the same outfit.

Leon was thankful he didn't see her putting the socks on her hands or her head.

It seems that even without memories related to common sense, she could vaguely sense where each item was supposed to be worn.

"Why aren't you wearing the one I gave you?"

Leon was clearly referring to the fact that she was still wearing his trench coat.

Of course, if March 7th didn't want to leave, then she wouldn't have to.

He'd see after finding the Astral Express.

If she herself was unwilling, he would drop the matter.

It was his debt to Fuli in the first place. Entrusting her to someone else would mean he'd still owe the favor, a never-ending repayment.

There was nothing that stats couldn't solve. If there was a problem, just steamroll it with brute force. If that didn't work, it just meant one's own stats hadn't reached their peak yet.
