Chapter 9 - memory

Arther found himself in a familiar void, it was white as sheet of paper; Arther was in a suspended falling state, seemingly falling forever.

He could only move one thing and that was his head. When his looked around the white wood he saw many paths, he walked, and again this was all from his memories.

These were all illusions that could be denied as fake.

Golden sand flown around the void, it seemingly can out of nowhere.

A new scene appeared

This time Arther was standing in front of two dead bodies

Rami and Zoe's

The memories kicked in, so many things happened, to many things.

He had memories of getting beaten a tall figure. There memories from getting slapped just because something wrong twice, or sometimes he would grab his cheeks with two of his fingers and squeeze hard as he could but held off from doing to much so that it would leave a trace.

Most of the time he got ignored from the tall figure often but sometimes the father commanded him.

In these memories Arther, never wanted to talk to the tall figure, he always mind his own business, and kept out of sight. When his name was called he rushed down and did what he was told.

When Zoe and any free time she would take him out to eat or just drive.

Rami was the tall figure's favorite, he would treat he with decency, the standard of what you should treat your own kid with. He never really went above that standard to often.

Arther felt somewhat jealous of her, he wasn't jealous of the attention the father gave him, just why did he have to get hit instead of her.

Rami even though she was young, 6, she still try to comfort him. But still some resentment grew.

In a few other memories, he saw a body pouring out a little blood; the tall figures body was faced down on his stomach with multiple stab wounds in the lower back.

They were in the kitchen, in the memory no one was home besides them.

Arther took his knife and thrusted a few more times in the back, just to be sure. Arther dragged the body through the door that was in the living room leading to the porch of the backyard.

He dragged the body under the porch and scooped dirt onto the body with his hands. He left the body and cleaned up the small blood trail the body left.

Arther had planned it for a long time how he would set it up and everything. He grabbed the broke some of the alcohol bottles and opened the door.

When they got home, they saw the opened door, and entered the house. They didn't see the tall figure around the house or even hear him; it felt eerie, seeing the man was still terrifying, but not seeing or hearing him foreshadowed something worse.

They approached the kitchen, they see alcohol and glass shards of the bottles on the floor. They weee confused at first thinking maybe Arther broke them on accident and he went to go buy some more.

They head to the stairs and reach the room Arther was in. Arther was drawing something on a sketch book in corner of the room. Zoe walked up to him and asked out of fear what might.

"What happened"

He looked at her with tears flowing down his face and said in an innocent voice

"I accidentally broke some bottles on accident"

She sighed and hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go. She knew if he didn't get hit now it was going to be worse later. This time she wanted to protect the kid she'd loved for 12 years of her life.

Arther cried in her arms as rami walked up and followed what her mother did. They comforted him for a while until he stopped crying.

Hours later the man did not show, they suspected he was at a bar drinking, but the money in there shared bank account never drained.

'Did he leave?' Zoe wondered

Zoe kept wondering for hours but the man never showed.

Hours turned into a days.

Each day Arther kept shoveling dirt on the body to minimize the smell. Of course he treated this secret over his own life.

A week has passed since he went missing, although the family didn't want to search for him, due to having actual freedom. The first few days were like heaven; no restrictions, no warning, and finally no beatings.

Day by day Zoe had gotten more scared of Arther, while Rami could feel it but not understand it.

On the seventh day she grabbed Arther by the arm and pulled him in to her bedroom.

They both sat down on the bed and she questions her own son.

Arther put on his best poker face he could as she begins interrogating him.

"Where is he?"

"I don't know"

"Did you kill him"

"No"

"Arther, I've raised you for all your life I can tell when you lie"

"So where is he?"

He reached out his hand from his pocket and made a hook with 5 fingers.

She followed through and he showered the body.

Even though she loved Arther seeing a dead body still shook her and knowing that it was her son who did it, broke her.

She hated the man so much, she envisioned of his death countless times but seeing the actual was different.

"Keep scooping the dirt, I'll go grab a bowl" she said

A few minutes later she came back with two large bowls. They scooped all the dirt until it neutralized the smell.

"We don't talk about this ever" she said as she walked into the house again

Arther smiled.

He was finally happy.

A month later

Zoe started slightly distance herself away from Arther but not to far. She had immense love for Arther but the fear for him still grew.

She decided to treat Arther better but distanced herself away more and more. This meant that he would get better gifts from her compared to Rami, she would still get more attention.

Arther thought it wasn't to bad, he hoped that this separation thing didn't last to long.

The more years pass by the more gift he got but the more she distanced.

Over the years Arther's tendencies got worse and worse. Zoe gave him a prescription so that he would calm down.

Zoe kept giving him gifts, what he wanted or needed, but it didn't help.
