In front of Koji was a shallow puddle. Inside it, a round, pale-blue creature wobbled slowly. Its oval eyes looked dopey and cute. It was like a bouncing piece of jelly, begging to be poked.
"A… Water Slime?"
His mind went blank for a moment, but then he recognized it immediately. Nothing could be more iconic.
A monster from that two-character game fit it perfectly. Koji muttered:
"…Now I know where I am. This is Teyvat."
As a Genshin Impact player, he remembered the familiarity he had felt earlier. The glowing plants must have been Small Lamp Grass.
To his left, he noticed a tree heavy with fruit as red as a sunset. The fragrance was sweet and strange.
A Sunsettia. His last doubts vanished.
This was Genshin Impact's world, Teyvat. Not a peaceful slice-of-life world.
Seven nations existed here: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan, and Snezhnaya. Each embodied one of the seven elements, each ruled by an Archon with different ideals.
Koji scratched his head. He was familiar with Teyvat, but familiarity didn't make it safe.
The slime before him was a Water Slime, the weakest of Teyvat's monsters. Its damage wasn't great, which made him curious.
He decided to approach.
Duang~ Duang~
The pale-blue slime bounced in the puddle. Sensing him, it leapt forward like a ball of jelly.
Duang!
It slammed into him. Aside from staggering a bit, he felt no pain. His clothes, however, were soaked.
As expected, Water Slimes ranked low among Teyvat's threats.
But… in the game, slimes were immune to their own element. Even Musou no Hitotachi (Raiden's ultimate) bounced off Electro Slimes. Only other elements or physical damage worked.
He crouched and patted the Water Slime. It felt slick and a little sticky from slime condensate. Overall, like jelly.
"Right, in some anime slimes can clean things." He placed a muddy stone inside the slime.
The stone spun within it. Soon the dirt vanished as if scrubbed clean.
Sensing Koji wasn't hostile, the Water Slime stopped attacking and stared at him blankly.
Strange human.
He lifted it up. Round, soft, and cute. The texture was addicting.
Since he was in Teyvat, why not try taming a monster? Keeping one could be fun.
"Water Slime, how about following me?"
The slime stared at him. Somehow it felt a strange fondness for this human. It didn't ram him again, only bounced quietly.
"Not answering? I'll take that as a yes." He smiled.
Anyone else watching would think he was crazy. Slimes couldn't talk, after all.
"Well, I've got a pet now."
It had no fighting power, but as a mascot, it was enough.
For now, he wouldn't head straight to Mondstadt. Walking into the city with a slime, even a weak one, would cause panic. The Knights would drag him off for questioning.
Better to survive in the wild first. As a transmigrator, he had no Mora, Teyvat's currency. Even if he entered the city, he couldn't afford lodging.
He wasn't like the Traveler, with great strength and ties to the Knights.
For wilderness survival, he had some reference. He'd watched Bear Grylls and Ed Stafford videos. Teyvat's wilds were rich in food, so starvation wasn't likely.
His first priority: build shelter. Then find adventurers to learn the current timeline.
Teyvat might look peaceful, but the Fatui and Abyss Order plotted constantly. If he got caught up, his life was at risk.
"Gurulu…"
His stomach growled. He didn't know how long he had slept, but hunger gnawed at him.
He licked his lips and walked toward the Sunsettia tree. The fruit, big as a melon, smelled wonderfully sweet.
Crunch!
He wiped one clean on his clothes and bit into it. Juice exploded. The taste was refreshing and sweet, invigorating him.
No pesticides. Pure natural food. Safe enough.
In Teyvat's wilds, finding food wasn't hard. As long as monsters didn't kill you, starvation was rare.
Burp…
After two Sunsettias, he felt full enough for now. But without protein, it wouldn't last.
He gave a piece of fruit to the Water Slime. Inside its body, the pulp dissolved instantly. Koji clearly felt its joy.
He laughed. With food in his belly, it was time to work.
The slime bounced along behind him, duang duang, sticking close.
Any local would doubt their eyes. Monsters were supposed to attack intruders.
Even Water Slimes attacked anyone who stepped into their puddles.
Before dark, Koji used birch to build a small shelter. Crude, but enough to keep him dry.
He felt proud. His first home in this world.
Fire was simple. Dry wood. Friction. Embers. Then tinder. A little breath. Smoke rose, flames came alive.
