Chapter 76 - Chapter 73 : Forming a Team

Moreover, Xiao Jian could supplement his progress by absorbing the energy contained within medicinal herbs ..... a secret method that greatly boosted his cultivation speed.

At this rate, it wouldn't even take a month for him to break through to a Six-Star Dou Fighter.

Two hours later, he opened his eyes.

Outside, the streets were already alive with noise .....a new day had begun.

After washing up, Xiao Jian left the inn and made his way toward another exit of Qingshan Town — the one that led straight to the Magical Beast Mountains.

When he arrived, the entrance was bustling with activity. Groups of mercenaries shouted loudly, trying to recruit solo fighters for their parties.

It was like a chaotic market ..... mercenaries forming temporary teams, ready to dive into the wilderness.

Those they tried to recruit were all capable individuals, fighters confident enough to enter the mountains alone ...men and women who had survived its dangers before.

Xiao Jian counted himself among the latter, though he had no intention of joining any random group.

He hadn't come to Qingshan Town just to train in the mountains.

He had another purpose ..... to lay the groundwork for the Xiao Family's future expansion.

And to do that, his true goal lay not with these loose mercenary teams, but with the organized mercenary corps of Qingshan Town.

There were only three such corps in town, each about a hundred strong.

Their members were mostly above the rank of Dou Fighter, and their leaders were rumored to be Dou Masters ... true powerhouses, and some of the most influential figures in town.

With his current Five-Star Dou Fighter strength, Xiao Jian could easily handle low-ranked Dou Masters if he went all out.

But strength alone wouldn't be enough.

He needed to unite these groups under his command ...and appoint someone he could trust to manage them.

He was still mulling over his approach when a sudden commotion rippled through the crowd.

"The Ten Thousand Medicines Pavilion is organizing an expedition into the Magical Beast Mountains!

The Little Doctor Fairy herself will be joining! Only fifty spots available ... minimum requirement, Two-Star Dou Fighter! Don't miss your chance!"

The announcer's shout silenced the crowd for a heartbeat .... then chaos erupted. Mercenaries surged forward, eager to claim a spot.

Without hesitation, Xiao Jian stepped into motion.

His feet traced the pattern of the Flowing Dragon Steps, his figure weaving like a serpent through the crowd until he reached the front.

"I'll go first," he said with a bright, confident smile.

"Eh?"

The middle-aged man in charge blinked in surprise.

The youth before him looked barely seventeen, handsome, well-dressed ....hardly the image of a battle-hardened mercenary.

He hesitated, then said politely, "Young sir, we're only accepting Dou Fighters, at least Two-Star level and above."

Clearly, he doubted that someone so young could possess such strength.

But the mercenaries behind Xiao Jian weren't nearly as polite.

"Where'd this brat come from?" one scoffed. "Still wet behind the ears!"

"Yeah, get lost, kid. Don't waste our time!"

A burly man with a thick beard strode forward, reaching out to shove Xiao Jian aside.

But before his hand could touch him, Xiao Jian's expression hardened.

In a flash, he dropped low, braced his left foot, and kicked upward with his right.

Bang!

His heel slammed into the man's jaw. Though he'd held back his strength, the strike was precise ..... the bearded mercenary flew backward and crashed to the ground, unconscious.

The crowd went silent.

One kick to fell a Dou Fighter.

That was all it took for every mercenary present to recognize him.

In their world, strength was respect.

"Now then," Xiao Jian said mildly, not even glancing at the fallen man, a faint smile returning to his lips. "Do I qualify?"

The middle-aged man's eyes gleamed with newfound admiration.

"Young brother, your talent is remarkable. To reach Two-Star Dou Fighter at your age… impressive indeed.

Very well .... you'll be the first on the list. The commission is five hundred gold coins.

Half paid now, half upon our return, after ensuring the safety of our herb-gathering team."

Xiao Jian waved a hand lazily. "No need to split it. Pay me the full amount when we return."

"Haha, as you wish," the man said with a good-natured chuckle.

And so, Xiao Jian stepped aside, waiting calmly as others rushed to sign up ..... his next move already forming in his mind.
