By dusk, after three days of riding, Xiao Jian finally arrived at a small town on the eastern outskirts of the Magical Beast Mountain Range.
This place was called Qingshan Town. Because it sat so close to the mountains, people often called it the Beast Town.
The streets teemed with mercenaries ....men who lived with blood on their blades and danger at their heels.
They moved in packs, laughing loudly, spitting on the ground as they bragged about which tavern had the most charming women, whose wine burned the hardest, and where the fiercest beasts prowled.
On both sides of the bustling street, brightly lit shops were open late into the evening. Being near the mountain's edge, business here was booming.
Before long, Xiao Jian's eyes landed on a large herbal shop not far ahead.
"Ten Thousand Medicines Pavilion."
Seeing those familiar three words, his brow arched slightly as he stepped forward.
There were plenty of weapon and armor shops along the way, but those held little value for him.
After all, he already carried a blade forged by the best blacksmith in Wutan City ....not a divine weapon, perhaps, but more than enough for his current needs.
What interested him more were medicinal herbs, the essential tools for cultivation.
Though he had never formally studied alchemy, his years managing the marketplace and hunting for rare herbs had given him some solid knowledge of herbal lore.
As his gaze swept across the neatly displayed herbs behind glass counters, familiarity flickered in his eyes.
He could recognize most of them at a glance.
The shop was fairly crowded, and all the attendants were busy, leaving Xiao Jian unbothered.
That suited him just fine ..... he disliked having chatty salesmen buzzing in his ear. The quiet let him browse in peace.
But when his eyes landed on a small jade box, he paused.
"Healing medicine…"
Reading the label beneath it, his eyes narrowed slightly.
So this was the wound salve prepared by the Little Doctor Fairy, was it?
While a physician's concoction couldn't compare to a true alchemist's potion, it was far more affordable.
After a moment's thought, Xiao Jian stepped forward to the counter.
"I'll take all of this healing medicine."
He tapped his finger lightly against the counter and spoke calmly to the approaching shop assistant.
"Oh! Excellent choice, sir! This batch was personally prepared by our honored resident physician ... the Little Doctor Fairy herself! Its effects are top-notch!"
The attendant's eyes gleamed as he looked over Xiao Jian's neat, finely tailored outfit.
Realizing he was dealing with a wealthy young noble, the man immediately put on his most flattering smile.
"Heh. A physician, not an alchemist, hmm? Are her medicines truly as effective as you claim?"
Xiao Jian asked with feigned disinterest, his tone deliberately flat.
"Ah, sir, if it were that easy to become an alchemist, the world would be full of them!" the clerk replied with an eager grin.
"Still, our Little Doctor Fairy is the finest physician in Qingshan Town.
More than half the mercenaries here owe their lives to her! Every potion she makes has been tested in real battle ...results guaranteed!"
"Oh? Interesting."
Xiao Jian nodded slightly. "Then I'll take them all."
He drew out a gold card from the Mittel Clan, sliding it across the counter.
A handsome young man, wealthy, traveling alone…
To some, that was nothing less than a walking treasure chest.
Sure enough, someone was already thinking wicked thoughts.
"Sir, here's your card."
The clerk soon returned, respectfully offering it back with both hands.
Xiao Jian nodded, took the card, and with a flick of his wrist, stored it in his ring.
"By the way," he asked casually, "these herbs .... are they all gathered from the Magical Beast Mountains?"
