Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: Confrontation

Mount Myōboku.

The massive, ancient toad gazed down at the crystal sphere before it and murmured softly,

"Child beyond destiny… I've finally seen you."

...

Konoha.

A huge hawk soared across the sky, its shadow sweeping over the village and startling the villagers below.

Ninjas in green flak jackets quickly gathered. Most of them were still stationed on the three battlefronts — this was Konoha's weakest moment.

In an underground lab, Orochimaru heard the cry of the hawk and instantly left his laboratory.

He frowned at the massive shadow above.

Orochimaru disliked hawks — they were the natural enemies of snakes.

Feeling the chakra radiating from above, he murmured,

"Such powerful chakra… is that a summoned beast? Even Manda can't compare to that."

...

At the Namikaze household, Kushina's belly stirred slightly, and she bit her lip in discomfort.

Minato noticed and asked curiously,

"What's wrong?"

Kushina shook her head.

"The Nine-Tails just got a little excited… I don't know why."

At that very moment—

"Skreeee!"

The hawk's cry split the heavens. Every jōnin in the village stood on high alert — that massive chakra presence nearly rivaled a Jinchūriki's.

Kairen swooped down, landing atop the Hokage Rock, then released the "Transformation Technique."

Standing atop the carved head of the First Hokage, Kairen crossed his arms, gazing down over the entire village while his Byakugan detected dozens of chakra signatures rushing toward him.

From this vantage point, his mental clone — Sasuke — merged back into his consciousness. Kairen activated his "Pretender Mode."

"This tiny village… I can see it all at a glance."

A slender jade hand suddenly reached out, grabbing Kairen by the ear and tugging hard.

"You little brat! I told you to stop outside the village, and you wouldn't listen. Now you've startled the whole damn place!"

Kairen, still half-infected by Second Pillar's arrogance, frowned.

"Woman, who do you think you're talking to? I am the proud eagle — the sky is my throne."

Tsunade's expression instantly darkened.

"You dare talk to me like that, you little punk?!"

She grabbed his face with both hands and stretched his cheeks wide — turning his face into a flat pancake.

Realizing he'd gone too far, Kairen quickly cried out,

"Tsunade, I'm sorry! I'll never disobey you again!"

"That's better." Tsunade smiled in satisfaction, then grew serious again as she sensed the killing intent approaching from all around.

...

"Shff—shff—shff!"

A squad of ANBU wearing white-and-purple vests and animal masks surrounded them, cold chakra flaring like blades.

Tsunade turned toward them.

"I'm Tsunade. That was just… an accident."

"Princess Tsunade, we know," said the masked squad leader — a dog-mask ANBU. "The one who intruded into the village wasn't you… it was the Konoha ninja behind you."

He pulled out a photograph from his pouch — Kairen's graduation photo. Then he looked up again.

The youth before him was older now, about fourteen or fifteen, but the resemblance was unmistakable.

"Kairen," the ANBU leader said coldly, "you were ordered to return within two days. Why are you three days late?"

"And why didn't you use the main gate? Breaking through the sensory barrier — are you planning to rebel?"

"You talking to me?"

Kairen's dark pupils locked on the masked ninja. The enormous chakra within him burst outward, pressing down like a physical weight.

Then, a killing intent illusion engulfed the man's mind —

Cold steel piercing his chest, explosions tearing through his heart, flames devouring his flesh…

Endless agony filled his senses.

"AHHHHH!!"

The dog-mask ANBU screamed, collapsing to the ground and writhing in pain.

"Captain!"

The others tensed, watching their superior roll and howl on the ground.

For seasoned ANBU — trained to endure torture — such a reaction was horrifying.

How much pain was he experiencing?

Seven or eight ANBU drew their blades, eyes cold.

"You dare attack one of us?!"

Kairen drew his own sword, voice frigid.

"You think I'm something to toy with?"

The air froze.

...

A loud, boisterous voice broke the silence.

"Tsunade! Why aren't you resting in the village? What are you doing out on the front lines of the Land of Rivers?!"

Tsunade turned — Jiraiya stood atop the Third Hokage's stone face, tall, white-haired, with red lines down his cheeks.

Beside him stood Orochimaru, calm and expressionless, his long black hair swaying as his golden eyes locked on Kairen.

"He's my clansman," Tsunade said, pointing at Kairen. "I went to the battlefield to confirm his bloodline. There's no mistake — he's a descendant of the Senju."

Jiraiya studied Kairen — short black hair, gray shirt, thick black belt at the waist…

Orochimaru's voice was smooth and magnetic, almost enticing,

"That giant hawk earlier — was that you?"

Their gazes met — dark eyes against golden ones.

Behind them, one could almost see the faint outlines of an eagle and a serpent locking eyes.

Kairen didn't answer. He hadn't come to Konoha recklessly. He wanted to measure their current power — and plan an escape route.

Moments later, over a dozen figures appeared on the cliff.

At their head stood the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, wearing his red-and-white robes, with four bodyguards flanking him.

And behind him — Danzo Shimura, Mitokado Homura, Koharu Utatane, and the clan heads of Konoha:

Uchiha Fugaku, Hyuga Hiashi, Hyuga Hizashi…

And even Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki.

Konoha's entire upper echelon had assembled.

Kairen quietly gathered chakra, ready to flee at a moment's notice.

But Tsunade stepped in front of him, facing Hiruzen.

"It was just an accident, no need to overreact."

Hiruzen took a drag from his pipe, his eyes shifting toward the youth behind her. He had already reviewed a thick file on Kairen — from his birth to his battle records, temperament, jutsu style, even political tendencies.

Undeniably, this boy was a prodigy — but wild and uncontrollable, a double-edged sword.

He decided to let an old "friend" test him first.

Danzo's single uncovered eye glared coldly.

"Moku Kairen, you're quite arrogant — ignoring me, the Hokage's advisor, and even calling me an old dog. Do you understand the consequences?"

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

He insulted Danzo… to his face?

Even Kushina whispered to Minato,

"So bold! I only ever curse that old geezer when no one's around."

Everyone's hearing was sharp — they all turned to stare at her.

"..."

Kushina's face turned red, and she quickly hid behind Minato.

Minato smiled awkwardly at the crowd.

"Sorry… sorry! She's just joking."

"Hmph!" Danzo grunted coldly.

He knew his reputation — few in the village liked him, and many mocked him in secret. But he didn't care. Once he became Hokage, all that dirt would be washed clean.

Danzo turned his glare back to Kairen.

"You caused quite a mess on the River Country front — insulting officers, harming allies, showing disrespect to superiors. Are you planning to defect?!"

His words echoed like thunder.

But Kairen didn't even look at him. He turned his back, his aura thick with Second Pillar's smugness.

...

And so the tension between them spiraled toward explosion.

Such a proud stance made many in the crowd frown.

Uchiha Fugaku lightly stroked his chin. He didn't think Kairen resembled the Senju. On the contrary, his appearance, clothing, and solitary aura felt more like their own Uchiha clan.

Orochimaru chuckled softly. He too disliked Danzo but had never seen anyone so brazenly ignore the Root's leader.

He licked his thin lips and murmured,

"Interesting."

Danzo's eyes darkened. Seeing Kairen's contemptuous attitude and arrogant air, his blood boiled.

He immediately ordered the Root ANBU behind him:

"Seize him! Suspect him of being a rogue ninja!"

Hiruzen raised a hand, feigning caution.

"No… do not kill him!"

Three Root ANBU, all jōnin-level, instantly teleported forward, blades drawn. Their swords gleamed like ice — able to slice through flesh effortlessly.

Tsunade snorted but did not intervene. She knew Kairen's strength.

Kairen lightly stroked his chin, acting as if he hadn't noticed them.

The three jōnin struck — but Kairen shattered them in secret, leaving only a plume of white smoke in their place.

"Ding!"

"You were killed by three jōnin. EXP +120!"

The crowd stared at the smoke, eyes widening.

Kushina gripped Minato's shoulders, curious.

"No blood… he just turned into smoke? What a strange jutsu."

Orochimaru's eyes widened.

This is a kekkei genkai — immune to physical attacks.

Kairen, in smoke form, flew from Hokage Rock to the plateau, looking down at Danzo in surprise. Even Danzo seemed shocked at the limits of this unusual bloodline.

"Worms in the earth… your vision never reaches beyond filth. Dreaming of the Hokage's seat, yet doing such petty deeds."

His words were blunt and scathing.

Danzo's fury surged.

"Moku Kairen! Are you insulting me?!"

"Ha ha ha…" Kairen laughed wildly, further fueling Danzo's rage.

"The Second Hokage was right to watch you carefully. Even if you stayed to block the enemy, he would never let you become Hokage — because you're too foolish!"

"Moku Kairen!" Danzo spat coldly, his single eye radiating endless killing intent.

"Get him!"

Three Root ANBU attacked. Kairen's mouth didn't stop, constantly taunting:

"Even your jōnin-level subordinates are weak. Do you think a mask and a vest hide them from me?"

His words incorporated the negative jutsu from Naruto, combining illusion and verbal jabs — nearly reaching the level of kekkei genkai elimination.

Even the ruthless Root ANBU's anger flared. Blades struck repeatedly at Kairen.

"Ding!"

"You were killed by three jōnin. EXP +100!"

"Worms buried in the earth, gnawing at Konoha's roots, shamelessly claiming it's to protect the tree — I'm embarrassed for you."

"Damn it!"

Kairen insulted Root's faith. The ANBU's hands shook, and behind them, Danzo's eyes burned with persistent killing intent. He had created Root to protect Konoha more extremely… yet here he was being belittled.

The ANBU unleashed jutsu, relentlessly trying to kill Kairen.

"Ding!"

"You were killed by jōnin using jutsu. EXP +100!"

...

"Incompetent, ignorant, brainless — this is Root. They can't even handle one genin, yet you call yourselves cold-blooded machines? Go home and raise your kids!"

"You brat, die!!"

"Lightning Release — False Darkness!"

"You were killed by jōnin using Lightning Release. EXP +100!"

Jiraiya wiped a cold sweat.

"Tsunade's clansman… that mouth… is vicious."

Orochimaru frowned, listening to Kairen's insults. He felt his head spin.

"Danzo hasn't married yet, right?! Claiming it's for Konoha… could it be… impossible?!"

"Don't insult Danzo! Die!"

"Ding!"

...

"I'm not insulting him, I'm just speaking the truth. Little jōnin, don't slander me!"

Kairen reformed from smoke, mocking the stunned jōnin.

Danzo's face darkened. Kairen's audacious insults made him feel completely disregarded. Every cunning scheme he had in mind now only fueled his rage.

"Hey hey…" Kushina covered her mouth, quietly laughing. Danzo was the one she hated most.

This Moku Kairen… he knows how to curse so well!

"Die, brat!"

A blue-bird-masked jōnin swung his sword. Kairen's eyes gleamed coldly. Enough fooling around — it was time to get serious.

He activated the first four gates of the Eight Gates and donned the Nine-Tails cloak.

"Nine-Tails?!"

"Eight Gates?!"

Everyone gasped, shocked by his bizarre chakra.

Kushina gripped Minato's shoulders hard, muttering,

"Minato, Minato! How can he have Nine-Tails chakra? Does he… actually house a Nine-Tails too? Mine is female… his is male?"

Inside Kushina's seal space, the Nine-Tails growled,

"(ꐦ°᷄д°᷅)?"

Even the Nine-Tails was confused — how could this boy have its chakra?

Could it be like Kinkaku and Ginkaku? Did he consume my flesh?

Kairen's massive chakra surged ten meters high, like a rocket flame.

He snapped his fingers —

"Multiple Shadow Clone Technique!"

In an instant, white smoke erupted repeatedly.

"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Shadows covered the mountainside — hundreds of clones in gray jackets.

"Forbidden jutsu?!"

"Unmarked jutsu?!"

Each observer noticed different things — his massive chakra, hand seals, or the sea of shadow clones.

Kushina squeezed Minato's shoulder, staring at the endless clones in gray uniforms.

"So many…" she whispered.

"Ah… it hurts… let go!"

"Sorry! Sorry!"

Because he only faced three jōnin, Kairen had only created 500 shadow clones.

A pair of wings sprouted from his back as he slowly ascended, cold eyes fixed on the three stunned Root ANBU below.

Hiruzen saw the wings, quietly noting every detail.

Kairen waved one hand down.

"Teach them a lesson!"

...

The cannons and dozens of shadow clones charged forward, shouting:

"Let them see the might of our artillery corps!"

"Italian Cannon, ready!"

"Fire Release — Fire Cannon!"

"Fire!"

Dozens of fireballs shot out. The three Root ANBU formed hand seals, teleporting to dodge.

The shadow clones, some holding AK-like transformations, charged:

"Comrades, build our great Soviet! Forward!"

"Ura! Ura! Ura!"

They unleashed fire Qilin cannons from their hands, blanketing the jōnin.

The three ANBU chewed chakra pills, teleporting repeatedly to avoid instant attacks.

Scorpion's clone became a giant hornet, firing cannons.

"See? This is art — Gundam style!"

Deidara's clone refused to be outdone, charging into the crowd with explosives:

"Art is an explosion!"

"BOOM!"

Smoke and debris filled the air.

"Damn it!"

"Holy crap!"

"Idiot, even hitting allies!"

Firefighters scrambled.

"Water Release — Water Turbulence!"

When the chaos died, the three ANBU lay crippled — missing limbs, burned, clearly defeated.

The cannons' clones tied them up and threw them before Danzo, shouting:

"Root ninjas are trash! We didn't even go all out! See, old man?!"

"You—"

"I'll spare you my 'I'll visit your home later' threats, but remember — if you serve me well, I might just put in a good word for you!"

"Damn it!" Danzo muttered, expelling a vacuum jade, instantly wiping out the cannon.

He realized Kairen was formidable. He glanced at Hiruzen:

"Sarutobi, you saw how arrogant this kid is — ignoring me, destroying my three subordinates. We must apprehend him as a rogue ninja."

Kushina peeked from behind Minato, laughing:

"How shameless! Three jōnin can't even beat one genin, then they cry to the Hokage!"

Danzo glared.

"Nine-Tails!"

Kushina stuck out her tongue and ducked back behind Minato.

Kairen dispelled all shadow clones, slowly descending. Orochimaru's eyes followed the wings behind him, licking his lips in delight.

Smoke immunity, massive chakra, forbidden transformations… and so handsome?

This is a reincarnated body crafted for me, Orochimaru!

Kairen ignored Orochimaru, surveying the humans below — including Hiruzen.

The old man merely analyzed, gauging Kairen's power.

Now that the battle was over, it was time to win hearts.

Hiruzen stepped forward, smiling warmly:

"You're Moku Kairen, right?"

Kairen remained silent.

"Tsunade! Bring him down!"

Kairen landed, Tsunade holding his shoulder, bringing him before Hiruzen.

"He is the last of the Senju!" Tsunade emphasized heavily, her trust in Hiruzen not absolute.

Hiruzen smiled kindly:

"I know. The Senju built Konoha, suffering heavily in the First Great Ninja War. As a disciple of the Second Hokage, I'm glad to see a surviving heir."

Danzo exploded in anger:

"Hiruzen! What are you doing? Letting him go? Don't forget your sons hate him!"

Hiruzen shook his head, bowing to Kairen.

"My two incompetent sons caused you trouble. When they return, they'll apologize. For now, allow me, an old man, to say sorry."

Kairen's Sasuke clone sneered:

"See the difference between him and that old dog Danzo? Danzo's schemes only reach level one — this old man is already at level three. He'd cut off his son's fingers without a flinch. His depth is terrifying."

Kairen remained silent, ignoring Hiruzen's apology.

A brief awkwardness fell. Thankfully, Tsunade broke it:

"This child was abused in Sunagakure. He has psychological issues, especially distrust. I accept your apology, sensei."

Hiruzen stood, smiling gently, placing a hand on Kairen's shoulder. Kairen tensed immediately.

"You've done great deeds for Konoha," Hiruzen said. "Repelling Sunagakure's assault, defending the frontline, annihilating special teams… and more…"

The crowd's eyes widened — a single genin had achieved feats that even elite jōnin could not. All S-rank missions.

Orochimaru's tongue flicked rapidly in excitement.

Such talent and growth rate… If I get him, I could become the second Sage of Six Paths.

Kushina observed closely — a boy her height with such achievements.

She tugged Minato's sleeve:

"Unbelievable… only an ANBU could achieve this!"

Minato nodded, equally impressed. This was the first time, apart from Kakashi, he had seen a prodigy of this level.

Hiruzen patted Kairen's shoulder, warmly:

"You will become a great hero of Konoha — maybe even the Fifth Hokage!"

Kairen sneered internally:

In Konoha, heroes lie in graves. True ninjas sit in the Hokage's seat.

The old man sought to use or recruit his strength.
