Chapter 9 - Echoes (Part 7.2)

...? Hm? You want to hear more about my backstory, dear reader? Well, there isn't much I can say about my childhood... But don't worry! Diana here knows how to entertain. Maybe I should talk about Bragança's family. No, wait! I have a better option!

Do you remember when I said Guimarães has a high magical energy density for some reason? Well... Actually, there is an explanation (wow, no shit). The most plausible theory among us magis is Guimarães is actually Conceptual Point - an Origin Site. But how, you probably asking "What?"

I'll try to be brief - Guimarães is not just a city.

It is an ancient pact, etched into the ground like a luminous scar. The very idea of Portugal manifested itself there for the first time. This created an absurd concentration of mana. The Layline that passes there is one of the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula.

"Right, but why?" you are asking again. It's quite... Elaborate, but all this because of a statue."Statue", let's say. In that city, there, where this little rebel boy was born, what would later become the Avatar of Foundation. The statue's air vibrates with ancestral mana, as if each stone carried the weight of an oath that never expired. Because that's no ordinary hero.

That's the Founder—the man whose will and stubbornness was so strong that he has become a concept. God choose him as the "one". That... Is Grand Ruler, yes a Grand Servant and the name?... "The Conqueror", "The Founding King", "The Great", "The Father of the Nation" and titled as "King of the Portuguese" ... That... is D. Afonso Henriques (D. Afonso I of Portugal)... The Grand Ruler.

(Back to the present)

The gallop continues, we're still riding the horse. I believe almost an hour has passed since we left my house.

Strangely, it's still cold for those of us who are close to summer here. And also, the mayor said that nobody should go out after 8 of the night. It's 9 of the night but whatever, this is an "emergency".

Diana

— "I can't see anything ahead, how awful."

Rider (with a smirk)

— "Hmph, if you could see how things were in my time, you would find things much worse."

Diana

— "That's... awfully confident. And how can it be worse?"

Rider

— "Então chavala, a large part of my life has been spent sailing the seas and I saw alot of shit. I saw my comrades die of disease, some died of hunger. Some even drowned in storms we went through. It was a hard life, but it was a sacrifice to seek something greater."

Diana

— "Well... You look like someone who was around during the Age of Discovery, which is totally understandable. Be a sailor wasnt easy at all, plus everything you said."

Rider

— "But deep down, I had fun. Despite all the tragedies along the way, I had the opportunity to see and get to know other places. So in the end, was worthy."

Diana

— "...I don't know why, but you saying that in such a philosophical way is so weird... And coming from someone like you-"

Rider

— (Bonks on Diana's head)

Diana

— "BWAA-! WHAT WAS THAT FOR!"

Rider

— "Hmph, smartass."

And then, out of nowhere, the horse stopped abruptly, always made me fly away but Rider hold me.

Rider

— "What the devil was that?! A stop operation?!"

Rogue Rider

— "...Wait. Nobody speak."

Rider 's eyes open slighty for a moments before a smug of satisfaction and challenge forms on her face, as if something interesting had caught her attention.

Rider

— "...I see."

Diana

— "Guys, what's going on?"

Rider (with a smug)

— "...Look." (pointing)

I look at the direction where Rider pointed, And I see two quite distinct figures... In a physical sense. One of them looked like a man of average height, while the other was a giant wall of muscle. I even felt chills down my spine just looking at that wall. And not only that - that gigant wall was to carry a massive spear on the hand.

??? (With a eastern accent)

— "Hmm... What a coincidence. I wasn't expecting to find another Master here. It seems to me we're both suicidal going out at this time of night."

The voice came from a man of average height. He had a youthful voice and it seemed to me... Slavic? Or some place near Russia? And then both figures begin to emerge further from the fog, finally revealing their appearances.

The man who spoke was a palid skin, blue eyes and dark blonde hair, wearing well-dressed attire consisting of a waistcoat and tie.

???

— "Ah, much better. Finally, a better view of my opponent. Nice to meet you, young girl."

Diana

— "Guh---"

His polite demeanor kind of stunned me. How could he be so calm in a situation like this? Who's this guy?!

???

— "Oh? Where's my manners of a gentleman? I didn't even introduce myself properly. My name is Kārlis Vējš."

Rider

— "...Huh...

Kārlis

— "Hm? What?"

Rider

— "Oh- nothing. I zoomed out cuz you sound bitch-iyh."

Diana

— "Ah-! Rider don't say that!"

Rider

— "Why not? That's what he looks like."

Diana

— "Still! You shouldn't say that!"

Rider

— "Tch- Whatever. And who is this big guy?"

Kārlis

— "Him? He is simply one of the strongest heroes in the Baltics, my Lancer."

Lancer still has a straight and calm face, but at the same time melancholic. Physically it looks like a war tank but sad. His grey eyes with an animalistic glint don't match the person he is. Not to mention that he has armor made of what looks like bear fur.

Rider

— "Bold of you to reveal informations about your Servant. But so what?"

Rider summons her spear and immediately assumes a combat stance. I don't know why she's so excited to fight.

Rider

— "Stay back, Master. I'm waiting for orders and the beat the shit out of this guy. He looks strong, but that's what makes it better.

Diana

— "W-W-What?!"

Kārlis

— "I see, do more and talk less. Well... Since you want it so badly... Let the fight begin."
