I woke up in an awful silent house, for research to find the best place for Mackenzie she couldn't stay with me anymore. They took her and placed her in a foster family for a while now. I feel like I've failed. Michael and Georgia asked me to take care of Kenzie, me! God knows how she doing now.
In on my way to school, the holiday is over. I see Madison and some other friends waving at me when I enter the school yard. "Hey Claire! Can't believe you'll be a grownup tomorrow. There is so much you'll be able to do". That's right, my birthday is tomorrow. I might just skip it. I don't feel cheerful without Kenzie and her parents around. I don't even know if my mom will come home, I barely spoke to her. But maybe, maybe now that I'm eighteen I can fight for Mackenzie, and if I can, I will.
I drag myself through the streets, I can't go home, it is too quiet. Did Michael and Georgia worry? I bet they did. Would they have thought that Kenzie would be safe, with me? I hope they didn't worry too much.
