After dinner.
Kurosawa Hoshino took Conan to the house opposite the Mouri Detective Agency.
The house opposite was also a three-story building, and the apartment Kurosawa Hoshino rented was on the third floor.
"Conan, here are the keys. Oh, and that bedroom is yours; it has bedding and everything."
Kurosawa Hoshino first handed Conan a key, then pointed to a room, before stretching and returning to his own bedroom to lie on his bed and play with his phone.
His phone at this moment was a touchscreen smartphone, no different from the one he used in his previous life.
He could browse the internet normally, visit webpages to read news, and even scroll through short videos.
Of course, this was a Conan-esque world where technology styles often changed; for some cases, flip phones were needed, and everyone around would have flip phones, but when not needed, they would turn back into smartphones.
Even in the first episode, the art style changed later on; when Gin the Great smashed the river of time, he used a baseball bat, but later appearances showed him with a telescopic baton.
"Ding!"
A message popped up on his phone.
Kurosawa Hoshino tapped it open and saw it was from Sonoko, that lively girl.
"Hoshino, I heard you were attacked again?"
"Yeah." Kurosawa Hoshino replied.
"Ran told me that the person who attacked you this time was a senior from third year? Someone named Nitta Takeya?"
"If you want to laugh, just laugh; you don't need to beat around the bush and pretend to understand before laughing."
Sonoko didn't reply, but a call came through immediately.
Kurosawa Hoshino was a bit puzzled but still answered, only for his expression to darken the next second, as he heard unbridled "hahaha" laughter from the other end.
She was even laughing breathlessly, showing just how much fun she was having.
"That's enough, stop laughing."
"Cough, cough… ha… haha… I can't help it, you're just too unlucky, haha, you're really killing me. Three times, three times in one month."
"Sonoko, let's get to business. How's the investigation you're helping me with?"
"Cough… whew… ha…"
On the other end of the phone, Sonoko was trying hard to control her laughter, and after a while, she said seriously:
"Hoshino, I'm sorry, we couldn't find out who sends you money every month. Also, your mother, Kurosawa Megumi, doesn't have a fake identity or name; she grew up in an orphanage."
"Isn't there anything strange about it? Or any details you haven't mentioned?"
"Let me think. Oh, your mother's pregnancy with you wasn't her first; you were her second. Her first pregnancy seemed to end in a miscarriage; at least, that's the only record there is."
"Alright, thanks, I appreciate your trouble."
"Oh, it's nothing, we're friends, it's a small matter."
"Okay, I'm hanging up now."
Kurosawa Hoshino finished speaking and hung up the phone.
He thought about his mother.
His mother passed away when he was 12, before he awakened his memories. He used to not understand why his mother had money to spend even without working. Later, when he lived on his own, he found out someone was depositing money into his account every month, ranging from one or two million yen when less, to three or four million yen when more.
As for his cheap father, he had no idea who he was, which is why he didn't even mention him.
So, after awakening his memories a month ago, with some experiences from his previous life, he sensed something was off. Later, after meeting Sonoko, he asked her to help investigate.
Unexpectedly, even the Suzuki Group couldn't find anything, which indicated the waters were quite deep.
"Forget it, I'll know when I'm supposed to know. For now, I'll just honestly earn Origin Points. Once I have more superpowers, I'll have the strength to figure it all out."
Kurosawa Hoshino put his phone away, pulled up the covers, and slowly closed his eyes… The next day.
Kurosawa Hoshino woke up very early and specifically checked the time; it had indeed changed. Yesterday was Sunday, but today was Wednesday.
After breakfast at Ran's house.
They waited for Sonoko downstairs, and the three of them went to school together.
However, when they arrived at the school gate, they noticed something was off. The three of them seemed to have become some kind of rare animal; whether it was younger students or older students, they were all secretly observing them, even whispering.
"Is there something wrong with us?" Ran looked down at her school uniform, then at her two friends' uniforms, and found no problems.
"Don't panic, watch me."
Sonoko patted her chest, then moved away from them and walked towards a few girls not far away.
In just a few minutes.
She walked back, suppressing a smile on her face, her beautiful big eyes fixed on Kurosawa Hoshino.
"…"
Kurosawa Hoshino felt a bit uncomfortable being stared at. Being smart, he thought of a possibility and asked uncertainly:
"It can't be that what happened last night has already spread throughout the school, has it?"
"Haha, that's exactly it!" Sonoko burst out laughing: "Everyone was looking at you just now, not at me and Ran! And I heard someone even gave you a nickname, 'Unlucky Hoshino'."
"Sonoko, laugh a little quieter." Ran reminded, trying not to laugh herself.
"Cough, cough, you're right." Sonoko tried hard to lower her laughter.
"Sigh…"
Kurosawa Hoshino was speechless, muttering to himself: "Is it going to be 'Sleeping Kogoro' and 'Unlucky Hoshino' from now on?"
"Let's go, back to the classroom first."
After tidying his clothes, Kurosawa Hoshino said and strode towards the school building.
Ran and Sonoko hurriedly followed.
When they arrived at the shoe lockers on the first floor to change shoes, they met a short-haired girl who was specifically waiting for them.
"Kurosawa, Junior." The girl greeted proactively.
"Kazumi, Senior." Ran and Sonoko called out her name.
"Tsukamoto, Senior." Kurosawa Hoshino nodded to her. Of course, he knew her; she had appeared in the original work.
"Junior, I'm so sorry." Tsukamoto Kazumi's face was full of guilt: "I've already heard. I had no idea that guy Nitta would be so crazy. I just casually glanced, and he imagined all that."
Kurosawa Hoshino waved his hand: "Tsukamoto, Senior, I know it was just a misunderstanding. But that guy has already been taken away by the police, and he'll get the punishment he deserves. You don't need to worry about it."
Unfortunately, Tsukamoto Kazumi didn't accept this explanation at all, believing that if Kurosawa Hoshino hadn't dodged and something truly accidental had happened, she would have been consumed by guilt.
So, no matter what, she had to apologize to Kurosawa Hoshino, and even decided that when she had time, she would ask him out to play to make up for the scare he received.
Helpless, Kurosawa Hoshino could only temporarily agree, which allowed him to escape Tsukamoto Kazumi and successfully arrive at the classroom; otherwise, they would have argued for a long time.
