Chapter 23 - 23 Debts Must Be Paid

The battle continued until dawn.

When the first ray of sunlight illuminated the Whispering Forest, this war, destined to be recorded in history, finally subsided.

In the woods, blood-stained dew condensed on the leaves and grass, dripping along the textures onto the bodies of the dead, then quickly disappearing.

Robb sat resting under a tree, with Grey Wind serving as his backrest, firmly protecting him, emitting a purring sound from his throat; he had been howling and fighting all night, so his throat was not very comfortable now.

The rest of the Wolf Cavalry sat scattered around, with a few Wolf Cavalry dragging their weary bodies to stand guard in the jungle, guarding against a sudden attack from enemy forces near Riverrun.

As for the scattered corpses and spoils of war on the ground, they simply did not have the strength to organize them.

Blackfish sat opposite Robb, reporting the results of last night's battle: "We captured nearly a hundred knights and about ten nobles, including Earl Banfort, Ser Gyles Greenfield, Earl Estermont, Ser Tytos Brax, and the Dornish Maron... We also captured three Lannister, all of whom are Lord Tywin's nephews; two are his sister's sons, and one is his deceased younger brother's..."

"The bodies are still being counted, and we don't know how many on the other side died yet, but from my estimation, about half of the enemies fled an hour after the fighting began."

The string of names gave Robb a headache: "Tell me about our casualties, I'm more concerned about that."

Blackfish's tone faltered: "We lost fifty-eight men, and over a hundred were injured."

Robb felt a pang of sadness; if he could, he truly wished that none of his Wolf Cavalry would be sacrificed, but this was war, and only through blood and fire could excellent warriors be forged.

Theon Greyjoy sat to Robb's left: "We captured Kingslayer! Now that bitch in King's Landing will be dumbfounded, Ned is saved!"

"I hope so..."

Robb knew that Joffrey should be going mad and killing Ned Stark by now, but there was still hope of rescuing his two sisters.

Although both of them would experience hardships and grow in the subsequent storyline, Robb would rather his loved ones live a peaceful life in a greenhouse.

Suffering is not the only thing that can make people grow; those who glorify suffering must have ulterior motives.

Robb looked at the remaining two hundred-plus Wolf Cavalry; although their faces were etched with exhaustion, their spirits were very high; for many of these knights, this battle was worth bragging about in taverns for a lifetime.

This force could continue to fight, but only after sufficient rest.

Robb began to ponder the current battle situation: Riverrun still needs our support; there are still over ten thousand enemies besieging it, but once they learn of the Battle of Whispering Forest, their morale should plummet to the Valley; it's time for the decisive battle.

"Blackfish, any news from Lord Jason Mallister?"

Lord Jason Mallister is the lord of Seaguard; currently, almost all of the Riverlands has been plundered by Lannister, with only Riverrun, Harrenhal, and Seaguard remaining unbreached.

Seaguard is near Harrenhal, so Robb had Blackfish notify Lord Jason Mallister early on to have him lead his men from Seaguard to the Whispering Forest.

After all, no matter how strong three hundred Wolf Cavalry were, it was impossible for them to directly break through a fortified camp of ten thousand men; this had nothing to do with courage, it was simply suicidal behavior.

Blackfish's intelligence work was unparalleled: "I received the message; this raven was also lucky not to be shot down in the chaotic battle. As per your instructions, Lord Jason Mallister of Seaguard has already set out with his army."

"However, their speed is a bit slow because they encountered many Riverlands soldiers and wandering knights who had been defeated by Jaime earlier. He is currently absorbing these people, preparing to consolidate his forces, and is estimated to reach the Whispering Forest in two days, with a number of about two thousand."

Robb calculated in his mind that Old Weasel of Harrenhal alone could raise a force of four thousand men; Seaguard is not as rich as Harrenhal, and with the absorption of stragglers along the way, having over two thousand men would be quite good.

Adding the more than three thousand men defending Riverrun, although his side's forces were at a disadvantage, it was not impossible to fight.

No matter how difficult, could it be more difficult than last night's battle?

Having made up his mind, Robb began to give orders: "Since that's the case, we will wait here for Lord Jason to arrive with his men. Blackfish, you must maintain contact with Riverrun; once we attack, they also need to cooperate with us in a counterattack."

The rest was simple; after the Wolf Cavalry had rested, they excitedly began to explore their spoils of war.

Robb treated the Wolf Cavalry very generously, distributing spoils of war based on their military achievements in each battle; the armor of these dead enemies was valuable, and Robb would distribute it fairly.

At the same time, Robb also began to meet his spoils of war.

Kingslayer Jaime was stripped of his armor and brought before Robb, covered in blood, his golden hair stained black with dried blood.

"Ser Jaime, you are quite impressive; you almost took down the Riverlands."

Jaime looked up, staring at Robb: "What in the world are you?"

Robb shrugged: "Just a poor man who wants to save his family. I won't kill you; sending you back to King's Landing can get my family back."

Jaime's face was somewhat downcast; being defeated and exchanged as a captive like this truly dishonored his reputation.

However, the good news was that his reputation had already plummeted to the Valley.

Robb changed the subject: "But besides that, we still have a score to settle."

Jaime looked a bit confused.

Robb kindly reminded him: "You pushed my brother down the stairs, causing him to be permanently crippled; you pierced my father's knee in King's Landing, causing him to only be able to walk with a cane. Do you think these things can just be forgotten?"

"Do as you wish."

Jaime was very frank; he actually felt guilty about Bran; he was just a child, yet he harmed him for his own selfish desires, so punishment was deserved.

Robb nodded: "Very good."

Without further ado, Robb directly swung his sword, severing Jaime's entire left hand: "This is revenge for Bran's disability."

Before Jaime could even scream, Robb had already drawn a long spear and threw it at Jaime's knee, directly piercing through his knee and sticking into the ground.

"Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!!!"

Jaime's painful screams echoed through the Whispering Forest.

Robb wiped his hands: "Very fair, disability for disability, pierced knee for pierced knee, Lannister, now debts must be paid."
