Chapter 14 - finally out of the dungeon

After getting notified of the dungeon closing the environment started to change, and the world started to turn white around me.

Soon after blue pixels started to manifest and condense into several humanoid shapes before dispersing before and revealing the other students.

After another couple minutes no more students started to appear.

'Oh? There appears to be around 50 less students. Guess they didn't make it.'

Even though I should feel sympathy for their deaths I just couldn't find it in myself to care for them.

They were warned that they could die, and they took that risk.

As soon as that was said A huge portal opened up in front of all the students and everyone started to leave the dungeon.

Everyone started to file in the portal, and once all the students were out of the dungeon the principle started to speak as he glanced across the crowd.

"I'm glad to see that most of you have returned. Some of you may have died and some of you ... have surpassed my expectations." He said as his eyes landed on me and Blake.

"Now that you have finished the dungeon you should be aware that your journey has just begun."

"You may have been able to easily level up, but your ability to level up will only get harder."

Most of the students were surprised by this fact except for a select few students, with one of them being me.

Since my parents were a part of a high-ranking family, they already knew the secret behind this and the exact reason, so they decided to tell me.

The reason why exp becomes lower the higher your level is because of the nature of leveling up and increasing your rank. When your rank increases you become a higher-ranking existence.

This causes a decrease in exp because higher-ranking existences are innately superior. Their innate superiority allows for more thorough destruction of creatures, which as a side effect destroys their exp. This is especially the case for creatures of lower ranks.

The destruction of exp increase by 10 percent per rank, and the amount of exp destroyed doubles for each rank above them you are.

This means that apprentices are -10 percent, advance -20, master -30, and so on.

"Now the reason I'm telling you this is because you'll probably notice this by yourself; however, if you want to know the reason, you'll have to discover it on your own." The principle said giving a faint smile.

"You're all dismissed but I just wanted to give a reminder that if you want to participate in the final exam, you have a week to sign up."

"You're all free to leave now." He said, waving us off.

----------

As I was walking home, I started to debate whether are not I should sign up for the final exam.

'On one hand If I were to take part in the exam not only will it be a great test to see how powerful I am, but it will also allow me to get free materials from the country. I could also get a scholarship or invitation from a college or guild if I want to join one.'

'On the other hand, do I really need to do it?'

'I mean I really don't need to join a guild or college if I don't want too. My parents have enough knowledge, and my grandfather should take care of his enemies eventually so I should be able to get a bunch of resources in the future.'

'Based on what I've been told he's pretty close to taking care of them, so I'll only need to wait another year or two tops.'

Soon enough I managed to get back home and decided to head back to my room.

After a while of playing games and watching some tv unit it turned 5, I was called for dinner.

I went down the stairs, and we started to eat dinner before my parents started a conversation.

"So, how was your dungeon? / What level did you reach?" Both of them asked in unison.

"It went well I said." I said while eating. "I managed to get to level 10, so I just have to advance."

Both of them seemed a bit surprised, but it quickly turned to joy at my progress.

"That's Great!" my mom said with a smile. "You can use the isolation chamber after dinner, or tomorrow if you're tired and want to rest first."

'Oh right, I nearly forgot we had an isolation chamber. So, I guess that just leaves when I want to make my advancement, since my 'authority of evolution' skill makes sure that I won't fail. I only really need to plan the time for it since once I start I can't stop without risking crippling myself.'

After giving it a bit of thought I decided to respond. "I'll probably do it tomorrow since I haven't really slept for nearly 24 hours."

After accepting my answer my mom asked another question. "So, what do you want to do since you finished the beginner dungeon? You're pretty much done high school so you can do what you want?"

"I was actually thinking about that once I finished the dungeon, but I don't really know so I wanted to ask you."

Hearing this both of my parents gave me a sign to go on until I started to continue to speak.

"I don't really know if I want to take the exam or not." I said with a pondering tone. "I mean our family has a lot of resources and my grandfather should take care of everything in another few year's tops, so I don't really see the point of taking the exam."

Suddenly both of parents had a mixed expression before starting to speak.

"Speaking of your grandfather there's actually something we need to talk to you about." my dad said.
