Across from Jack's building, Miss Kono, also armed with a Mk12 SPR, stood on a balcony, observing the situation in the square below through her scope.
"Have the people up there found anything? You should have received the photos of the two terrorists."
Hearing Karen's question, Jack pulled out a communication tablet from his chest and took a look. It showed two white men of Middle Eastern descent, approximately forty years old, one with black hair and a beard, the other balding and a large nose.
"Wait a minute, I'll look."
The market below was quite crowded, but fortunately the square where the market was located was not too large. Jack simply ignored the tourists pausing at the stalls and focused on the moving targets.
"Wait a minute, I think I've spotted the target. Kono, confirm for me. You should be facing them. Get closer." Jack glanced down at the satellite map on his tablet. "Near Aina's Trail, carrying a black travel bag."
Ten seconds later, Kono's voice reached everyone. "Confirmed target. Two buyers are located in the northwest corner of the market. Danny and Sam (Hannah), you're closest. They're heading your way.
321, right now, you should be able to see them."
"Roger, they're there. Let's go." Danny, standing on the second floor pretending to be a tourist admiring the "view," patted Sam Hannah's arm, and the two quickly headed for the stairs.
As they were talking, Jack's telescope picked up another target. "Chenghao, Karen, look out. I've spotted Comescu, a man, passing the gypsy jewelry stall and heading towards your location."
"Roger, we saw him too. Damn, he's empty-handed." Karen's voice suddenly became nervous.
Chenghao said the same thing. "Have they already completed the transaction?"
"Then take down the two buyers first," Hannah said decisively.
By then, he and Danny had already descended the stairs and came face to face with the two terrorists.
"Hey guys, how's it going?"
Danny raised his hand in greeting. While the two men were stunned, Hannah's arm, the thickness of a man's thigh, suddenly exerted force, grabbed the bald-nosed man by the neck, and slammed him into a nearby pillar.
With a resounding thud, a good sound meant a good start. As the bald-nosed man was stunned, Danny pressed the barrel of his gun against the waist of the bearded man behind him.
"This way."
Danny and Hannah each restrained one of them, easily apprehending them without alerting the surrounding tourists. They turned a corner and handcuffed them to a bench for tourists to rest.
"Sit there and don't move," Hannah pointed his gun at their heads. Danny opened the black travel bag and saw it was filled with Franklin's. His face paled slightly.
"Hey, guys, we've got the buyer under control. They still have the cash, but no vials."
"The deal isn't done yet. Repeat, the deal isn't done yet," Hannah warned urgently.
Jack, watching everything clearly from his perch, also called out, "Cheng Hao, Karen, you're too close! Back off! Our priority is the viruses."
"Roger, we'll stay put." Karen and Cheng Hao paused before a shaved ice stand, their heads tilted to watch Comescu nearby.
In the middle of the small square, more than twenty steps away, a bald, burly man approached Comescu and handed him a small metal briefcase.
"That's Comescu's bodyguard. The vials must be in it," Karen muttered, his voice low.
"Hold on. There are too many tourists where he is. Don't rush." Jack, feeling a headache as he watched the heads bobbing in his scope, felt a surge of anxiety.
However, accidents always come unexpectedly. Two playful children, chasing each other, bumped into the shaved ice stand in front of Karen and Cheng Hao, drawing a roar of abuse from the owner.
Hearing something unusual, Comescu turned in that direction and met Karen's eyes across the crowd.
"I think he recognized me. Can you do anything, Jack?" Karen didn't bother to hide his feelings, staring intently at his enemy, muttering to himself.
"No angle," Jack muttered through gritted teeth. He was confident he could blow Comescu's head off, but he wasn't sure he could avoid the Kardashian-sized butt of the black tourist behind him. It must have been stuffed with so much silicone.
"Action now!" Karen and Cheng Hao drew their guns decisively, quickly putting some distance between them before rushing towards their target.
"Dracula Comescu! Stand still!" Their warning was met with the sudden sound of gunfire from the small square.
Thankfully, Comescu had some humanity left in him. Instead of attempting to attack Karen across the street through the crowd and the tourists resting in the small plaza, he fired directly into the air.
The gunshots instantly caused panic in the crowd, and everyone was running for cover.
"Police! Get down! Get down! Get down!" Cheng Hao and Karen shouted for calm, but it was clearly no use.
While Americans experience one or two mass shootings every day, not everyone instinctively drops to the ground when faced with such a situation, especially in Hawaii, where mass shootings are rarest in the country.
And that reaction isn't always the right one. At the very least, when facing a gunpoint threat, one should first move as far away from the shooter as possible.
Taking advantage of the chaos in the plaza, Comescu and his bodyguards quickly slipped into the crowd. The sniper's scope had a limited field of view, so Jack had to switch back to a telescope.
Meanwhile, across the square, Danny and Hannah had just gathered a few plainclothes HPD officers to escort the suspect away when they heard gunshots and quickly called out to ask what was happening.
"Jack, Kono, has anyone seen them?" Cheng Hao didn't bother to answer, shouting to the two men taking cover from the higher ground.
"Hold on, I found them. Behind the food stall, Comescu's bodyguard," Kono replied.
Jack, using binoculars, clearly had a clearer view than Kono, and his description was more professional. "They've separated. Karen, take the alley at 3 o'clock. Comescu went that way. Cheng Hao, watch out for the food stall behind you!"
Before he could finish his words, Karen had already rushed out, forcing Cheng Hao to turn and point his gun at the bald bodyguard crouched at the food stall. "Freeze! 'Five-O'!"
"Let me go, or I'll kill her!" The bald bodyguard grabbed the food stall owner's neck, trying to hide behind the petite South Asian woman.
"Kono, are you sure?" Jack was speechless. His chosen position today was a bit dark, and despite having good visibility, he couldn't find a suitable shooting angle. Fortunately, there was another Kono on the fourth-floor balcony across the way.
"Leave it to me," Kono muttered, then fell silent, seemingly concentrating on aiming.
Meanwhile, Cheng Hao was still locked in a standoff with the bald bodyguard. "Put down the gun! You can't get away!"
"No, you should put down the gun! Otherwise, she's dead." Comescu's bodyguard pressed the muzzle of his gun against the woman's back, carefully hiding his bald head behind her.
"Okay, okay, I'll put down my weapon, but you have to let her go and don't hurt the hostages, okay?" Cheng Hao pretended to lower his gun, causing the bald bodyguard, who had been moving backwards with anxiety, to stop unconsciously.
"Bang!" The gunshot rang out, and Kono's well-aimed shot hit him in the shoulder. The bullet penetrated the trapezius muscle from top to bottom, avoiding the shoulder blade before lodging in the spine.
The bald bodyguard helplessly let go of the female hostage and slumped to the ground. Cheng Hao quickly stepped forward and kicked the pistol away from the ground. "Nice shot, cousin!"
Kono exhaled slowly, and just as she pulled her eyes away from the scope, she nearly cried out in surprise.
Jack, who had been on the rooftop across from her, leaped up, clutching his sniper rifle. With a simple run-up, he landed effortlessly on the rooftop of another building, about six or seven meters away, grinning gleefully at her.
The girl's mouth almost opened into an O, as if she had seen Superman.
Jack, somewhat guiltily, dropped his smile, consoling himself that the world long jump record was nearly nine meters, so his own jump was nothing. He completely ignored the fact that he had only run a few meters and had launched from a rooftop over twenty meters high, holding a sniper rifle in a highly unorthodox position.
Crucially, he landed on his feet with an awkward landing, no elegant roll or graceful slide. He had to move too much, and that would have tilted the scope on his gun.
By then, Comescu and Karen had already run over two hundred meters, overturning countless stalls and knocking down scores of innocent bystanders along the way.
Jack had no choice but to reposition himself, lest the two run into his blind spot.
"Keep running, Karen. Follow my instructions. You can stop him ahead!" Karen hesitated slightly at Jack's command and followed his lead decisively.
"Turn right. Turn left, turn right, then keep turning right. He'll be on your left." Before Jack had finished speaking, Karen had already pointed his gun at the disoriented Comescu.
"Don't move!"
Karen took two steps forward, within three or four meters of Comescu, the gun firmly aimed at his head. "It's over. Put the box down!"
"Nice take, Agent Karen! You've come all this way just to visit an old friend like me? I'm truly honored."
Comescu adjusted his coat, trying to catch his breath, and assumed a proud pose.
"Don't flatter yourself. I'm here to enjoy the beach and the sun."
Karen swung the gun at the small suitcase in his hands. "If you want to leave this island alive, put it down and stand aside."
As if angered by his equally calm demeanor, Comescu roared, "You! You've ruined everything for me!"
Karen, who held a blood feud with him, remained unmoved. "Same here. Do you hear me? Put the suitcase down!"
Comescu slowly extended his left hand and slowly lowered the suitcase to the ground, while his right hand slipped into his coat pocket.
Karen, raptly watching his every move, couldn't help but notice this little trick. She shouted, "Put your hands up! Now!"
"Go to hell!" Comescu's face grimaced, but before his hand could leave his coat pocket, the gunshot rang out.
Karen looked up in astonishment and saw Jack waving at her from a rooftop over 300 meters away. At the same time, his voice came from the headset, "You're welcome, buddy."
