Chapter 39 - CHAPTER 39: GARTH

"You shall not try and poke around or play detective, as I said. This case is way above clearance for any of you agents." Riveka Sr. says as he casts a quick glance to where my friends and I are sitting, particularly towards his son. "Be on high alert, particularly Vatics, apparently precognition as of now might not save you from your own demise." Warden adds on, his voice stern and commanding.

"Why Vatics in particular?" Reid queries. He's standing now. His straight posture matching his father's the same energy of reverence emanating from him too. "We have a reason to believe that whatever is behind this murders might have a reason to go for them. The rest is above your clearance Riveka Jr." Warden says in a tone of finality and they make their way out of the common room. Well shit.

Do you think this two deaths have anything to do with Jen's murder? I direct the question towards Reid. I feel a tiny little prickle on my scalp as he channels my arcanist abilities. Maybe, who's to say, but the fact that its off clearance to everyone except the four of them...I think so.

Well do you think you could talk to your Dad about it? see if he has any details to offer up? I ask

I'd have better success talking to a wall. He says back sarcasm dripping from his tone. Warden though. Is all he says. Majority of the agents have now dispersed from the common room, off to whatever activities had previously occupied their time. I on the other hand have my schedule free for the rest of the evening, which is a rare occasion these days. The six of us remain behind, along with a few other anonymous agents in the room.

"So? now what?" Cal quips shooting looks at all of us. I swear this was one of those times where her bright and beaming personality shone right through her. As if she was ready to jump into action and solve the mystery ahead of us on the spot. "Well you miss, junior agents have training to get back to..." Reid tells her placing an arm on her shoulder that she shakes off dramatically as she turns to head to the nearby exit, her ginger hair bouncing off her shoulders as she went.

Cal had really made a habit out of defying her older brother these days, which I guess is a sibling thing. A chuckle escapes my lips as she walks away. "Don't worry Cal, you can join me at Tron after training if you want." I shout after her and she flips me the middle finger which makes me bellow out a laughter and this earns me a stern look from Reid. Warning me to keep off his little sister. Either way it didn't matter because I didn't like her romantically anyway. But I sure did like to tease her like the shameless flirt I was.

"I need to have a word with Warden." Reika says as she also heads towards the nearest exit. I guess she has the same idea as Reid. "I thought so as well, but I'm guessing he might be more open to talking to you." Reid chimes in like its some fact.

"Why, because he was dating her mom. I bet you all my money he'll do it because Reika being Psythelian might make her a target as well." Ameira states her tone blunt but Reid and Reika are too far gone to hear her. She's very witty and snappy. And I'm just now noticing that she has in fact not spoken since we met up until just now, which is a bit unusual for her. "What do you think about these two assassinations." I ask her.

"I think I they are taking out anyone with precognition because there's a chance they'll see them coming." she starts. "Then they'll ultimately come for Reika because with time her precognition will kick in." she finishes with a sigh. "Great so you know what everyone else knows." Caden chimes in jokingly. Ameira shoulder bumps him dismissively. "Anyway, I have a date to get ready for. See ya lads later." her voice drops down an octave and the last statement comes out sultry and seductive as she struts her way out of the common room as well, her auburn ponytail bouncing with every stride. Damn.

"Oh come on man." Caden whines. My eyes switch to him. His bulky masculine figure is relaxed out on the couch now that there's more room, his dark hair a curly mess on his face. "What?" I ask him.

"Is this whole massive flirtatious persona of yours overcompensating for something?" He asks casually and the one second I delay to answer his question has him sitting upright on the couch now. "Ow come on man."

"Jeez have you maybe thought that I'm just a shameful flirt." I say with a bit of ire in my bite back. I didn't like it when people tried to take a read on me. "Relax Mr. Arcanist there, that's the most basic observation ever, trust me everyone can tell there's more to the act a bit, ever since....."

"Don't you say it." I command my eyes locking with his blue ones. He sighs dismissively. "All I'm saying is you need to get laid lad. The sexual frustration is starting to show." he teases and he's right, I didn't like that he is right. I immediately try to get a read on him but his mental shields are up, thick as steel. "And why are you so guarded, Terra-mancer?" I teased, because no, he was one of my best friends as well. What did he have to hide?

"Maybe I just don't want you to manipulate me into telling you who ,my crush is, maybe I'm afraid you might try to get in her pants." He says in a teasing tone. "Oh fuck you Caden, we both know you're love life is as dry as the desert, maybe you should go..." he cuts me off with a pat on the back as he wakes up and takes his leave before I can finish that statement. Who doesn't want to joke now? Ha! I make my way out of the hall as well and head to my room for a short nap before I head to the local area bar to get batshit drunk.
