The room felt smaller than it had the night before.
Raya Calder lay on the bed, restless and tormented. No matter how many times she turned or adjusted the silk sheets, sleep refused to claim her. Her mind was a storm, replaying every touch, every word, every cold glance from Adrian. The weight of betrayal sat heavy on her chest, making each breath feel like an effort.
At some point, Anna stirred beside her, sensing her turmoil even in sleep. Without a word, Anna pulled Raya into a warm, protective hug, wrapping her arms around her like a shield against the world. The embrace was comforting, familiar, the kind only a true best friend could give.
But even then, Anna eventually drifted back into sleep.
Raya didn't.
She remained wide awake, eyes burning, heart aching, staring into the darkness as the hours slowly bled away.
