The ride to the café, or at least, what Anna thought was a café, was quiet. Too quiet.
Anna sat stiffly in the backseat, hands clasped tightly on her lap, nails pressing into her palms. She refused to move unnecessarily, refused to say anything that might set Lucas off, or give him reason to act on whatever game he had in mind. Her focus was clear: don't offend him, don't stumble, don't give him a reason to turn the situation into chaos that could eventually reach Raya.
She stole glances at him out of the corner of her eye. Lucas Reyes. Calm, composed, unreadable. His hand occasionally tapped against his phone as though some invisible rhythm guided him, and the glow of the screen reflected off his sharp jaw, making him seem almost untouchable. Not a word escaped his lips. Not a glance lingered too long, not even a smirk betrayed amusement... though Anna was fairly certain that under the surface, he was enjoying every seconds of this.
