The room was cold.
Not because of temperature, but because it carried the memory of fear.
Raya sat bound to the same chair Luca Romano had once occupied, thick rope biting into her wrists, her ankles secured to the legs of the chair. The wood creaked faintly beneath her weight, old and worn, as though it had absorbed every whispered plea, every sharp breath, every second of desperation that had passed through it.
She stared straight ahead.
Not struggling. Not crying. Not even begging.
Only thinking.
Has she done the right thing by helping Luca or not.
Her cheek still burned where Kaelo's hand had struck her. The sting lingered, pulsing in time with her heartbeat, but Raya refused to let it show. Pain was temporary. Panic was weakness.
And weakness was something she could not afford, not now.
The door opened.
