Chapter 7 - Societies

After reviewing his first character card, Liu Xing didn't plan to start upgrading or deciding on his skills just yet. After all, he knew he was still a complete novice in the Cthulhu role-playing game, so a hasty upgrade would likely lead to some shortcomings. After all, in Cthulhu role-playing games, skills, if used well, can be truly powerful.

So, Liu Xing decided to find a helper to perfect the skills on this character card. Of course, the helper he was referring to was the friend who had introduced him to the game, who was also in Chengdu and only a ten-minute walk from his current residence.

Liu Xing put his first character card aside for the moment and opted to enter his personal inventory to check out his bonus, the restricted character card.

The personal inventory interface was very simple. At the top, Liu Xing's current points—50—were displayed. Below that was a storage grid, typical of online games. Inside, Liu Xing's amulet with an old seal and an unactivated character card were placed.

Liu Xing first looked at the amulet with the old seal. After all, the old seal was still very effective against some lower-level mythical creatures. At least in the game in the ghoul area, Liu Xing felt that this amulet with the old seal could save his life.

An amulet with an old seal (low quality), crafted by a human with some knowledge of the Cthulhu Mythos. Its abilities are limited, so don't expect too much. This amulet can be materialized into the real world for a small price.

"You can exchange it for the real world?" Liu Xing was stunned upon seeing this. He suddenly felt the surrounding air grow eerie, and even sensed the distant call of Cthulhu. (Although Cthulhu is sealed in the sea, he can sometimes communicate with the outside world through telepathy. Cthulhu uses this telepathy to inflict nightmares, obsessive thoughts, and strong suggestions on humans. Sometimes, Cthulhu even imparts spells or knowledge incomprehensible to others through telepathy. However, because Cthulhu's spiritual level is far from that of humans, humans who communicate with him sometimes become demented or even go insane.)

Could it be that mythical creatures really exist in the real world?!

Since a surreal gaming platform like the Cthulhu RPG arcade can exist, isn't it normal for the real world to have a few mythical creatures?

Liu Xing consoled himself. . .

But just to be safe, Liu Xing gritted his teeth and spent a few points redeeming the amulet with the old seal. After carefully placing it in his wallet, he finally felt a sense of peace.

After finishing everything, Liu Xing checked his phone to see if anyone had contacted him while he was in the Cthulhu RPG arcade. As soon as he unlocked his phone, he saw the bank card payment message.

Seeing this message, Liu Xing thought of the 100,000 RMB that had just arrived in his bank account. This 100,000 RMB was practically his life savings.

"Well, never mind. I'm just lucky. I got a good job with a 100,000 RMB bonus upon joining, and I earned another 500,000 RMB just by completing a business deal," Liu Xing said with a self-deprecating laugh. Liu Xing still had 50 points, enough to stay in the real world for over a month. So, he didn't want to enter the Hall of Terror again so soon. After all, no one would actively seek death.

After shutting down his computer, Liu Xing wondered if he should go home and leave some last words. After all, the mortality rate in Cthulhu RPGs has always been high. Liu Xing felt that even if he died in the next RPG, it wouldn't be surprising.

"I'd better not go home, lest I get caught." On second thought, Liu Xing gave up the idea. He was afraid he'd let it slip and tell others about the Cthulhu RPG Hall, which would be a real joke.

Liu Xing glanced at his phone and saw it was getting late, so he took a shower and then went to sleep. It was a typical ostrich mentality.

The next morning, 10 o'clock sharp.

Liu Xing drowsily turned on his computer. The Cthulhu RPG Hall icon was still there.

"It wasn't a dream after all," Liu Xing slapped himself twice, saying helplessly.

Liu Xing tried to delete the game, but unfortunately, he couldn't find the Cthulhu RPG Hall installer. He had to give up trying. After all, he felt that even if he deleted the Cthulhu RPG Hall, it wouldn't help.

"Let's make the best of it." Liu Xing pulled out his phone, ready to find a few friends to chat about life and change his mood.

"Huh?" Liu Xing suddenly noticed a new app on his phone—the mobile version of the Cthulhu RPG Hall.

Liu Xing felt like he had nothing more to say. He hadn't expected the Cthulhu RPG Hall to have a mobile version. It was truly keeping up with the times.

Liu Xing opened the app, eager to see what this mobile version had to offer.

After tinkering around for a while, Liu Xing finally figured out that the mobile version worked exactly the same as the desktop version, but it allowed players to play the game anytime, anywhere. And the biggest bonus for Liu Xing was that his phone would always be fully charged and fully signaled, and it also had super-strong Wi-Fi. Liu Xing had tried it, and it had speeds reaching 10G per second.

"Now I don't have to top up my phone credits." Liu Xing found a way to cheer himself up. It seemed he couldn't live without this Cthulhu game lobby.

Just as Liu Xing was about to exit the app, a private message suddenly appeared.

"Is this game full of scammers?" Liu Xing didn't think anyone in the game would recognize him.

"Hello, I'm the Ghoul Zone Manager of the family in the Cthulhu game lobby. If you don't want to fight alone in the hall of horror, please join our club."

Liu Xing raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected to form a club in a Cthulhu game. However, he remembered that within the Cthulhu mythology, there were many secret societies dedicated to recruiting followers for the evil gods. Or perhaps a sacrifice...

The message was followed by a link. Liu Xing thought for a moment before clicking on it.

Although the Cthulhu role-playing game wouldn't reduce its difficulty just because there were too many players, having an organization was definitely better than having no organization. After all, individual strength in the Cthulhu role-playing game was already suppressed to such a low level.

Liu Xing clicked the link in the message and was automatically redirected to the club interface.

In the club interface, due to Liu Xing's level, he could only view clubs in the Ghoul area. However, within the Ghoul area, Liu Xing quickly found the family's Ghoul branch. There were only twelve guilds in the Ghoul area, and the An family's Ghoul branch was ranked first.

"It seems the family is quite powerful. It seems quite suitable for a talented newcomer like me." Liu Xing stroked his chin and clicked to join.

"Ding, you have joined the family's Ghoul branch."

The computer screen changed, entering a QQ group-like interface.

"Welcome, new member." At that moment, an administrator with the ID "Dulun" sent a welcome message.

Liu Xing politely replied, "Hello, I'm a new member who just completed the novice quest."

Liu Xing glanced at the club's member list. There were over 500 members, but only two or three were online.

But come to think of it, who would idle around on this Cthulhu role-playing platform...?

"Oh, there are over a hundred people in this group who have just completed the novice quest. You'll likely be joining the same game. So, when you want to start a second game, let us know so we can keep an eye on each other." Dulun typed a long message.

"Oh." Liu Xing's eyes lit up. After all, a teammate willing to cooperate is more valuable than anything else.

"That's good. I hope you can advance to the next area soon. There's also a branch of our An family there," Dulun said, and then he logged off.
