Larissa's POV
The glass doors of Gary Enterprises felt heavier than usual as I pushed through them, my body screaming for rest after another sleepless night at Dad's bedside. These past weeks had drained every ounce of energy I possessed, juggling work responsibilities while watching my father recover from his heart surgery. At least he was home now, though Mom's constant fussing was driving him to the edge of sanity.
"Finally!" Libby's sharp voice sliced through my fog of exhaustion as I trudged across the marble lobby. "I was about to send out a search party."
"Sorry, running behind," I muttered, matching her brisk pace toward the elevator bank. "Dad had follow-up tests this morning."
"How's he holding up?"
"Driving Mom crazy with complaints about his new diet. She claims that's proof he's getting better." The elevator chimed softly as the doors slid open. "Apparently, food without salt is 'a crime against humanity and taste buds everywhere.'"
