I drew in another steadying breath, my decision crystallizing. "Yes. I'll accept your proposal."
"What made you change your mind?"
"My father," I said honestly. "He needs cardiac surgery, and the public healthcare waiting list stretches for months. His doctors don't believe he has that kind of time. With your financial backing, I can get him admitted to the top cardiac facility very soon."
Carson's expression grew thoughtful. "Family loyalty is admirable. I appreciate your commitment to those you love."
"There's more to it than just the money," I continued, wanting him to grasp the full picture. "My father sacrificed everything for his children. He juggled multiple jobs to keep us fed and housed, never once complaining when times got difficult. He shouldn't have to die waiting for treatment because insurance companies refuse to authorize what he needs."
"You don't owe me explanations for your choices, Larissa. We each have our motivations for the paths we take."
