Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Secret Records of Recreating 'Cooking Master Boy' Recipes

This is the Type-Moon world!

I was reborn in the Type-Moon world!

With a mixture of excitement and bewilderment, he dashed into his grandfather's room. The moment he entered, his heart completely calmed down.

They had depended on each other for over a decade, and his grandfather had shown unwavering tolerance for his eccentric grandson. Having just faced death, Le Zhengling's memories were exceptionally clear. The old man's figure appeared before his eyes once more.

His back, though aged, was still straight and tall. His old face, always creased into a cool smile for him. His large hands, calloused yet warm.

He would always patiently demand that he do things seriously and be an upright person.

He would always console him, telling him not to worry about his appearance, saying it was the only legacy his deceased parents had left him.

And the hint of moisture in the corner of his eye when he would gaze wistfully in the direction of their homeland.

It was all so vivid, causing the tears he had just managed to stop to flow again. "Seriously, does the soul really get affected by the body? I'm an adult, so why do I keep crying at the drop of a hat...?"

Wiping the tears from his eyes, Le Zhengling walked to a desk, knelt on the floor, and pulled open the bottom drawer. Inside was a square, lacquered wooden box, its simple cloud patterns carved into the vermilion surface.

With trembling hands, Le Zhengling carefully took it out. In truth, he hadn't touched anything in this room since his grandfather passed away, only entering for necessary cleaning.

He felt a deep resistance within him. He had been lucky enough to be born into this world and spend over a decade with an interesting old man. Just as he had gotten used to it, accepted his fate, and was ready to live a good life with him, the old man suddenly passed away.

No, it wasn't sudden. He knew that for the past two years, his grandfather's health had been deteriorating. Though his grandfather hid it well, he couldn't fool someone with the soul of an adult.

Yet, even knowing this, he had deceived himself into believing their peaceful days would last forever, that he would grow up and take care of the old man in return.

But reality is reality because it is so harsh.

Time is fair to all; the old man had reached the end of his life, leaving Le Zhengling alone. Twice now, he had wanted to care for his parents, but they were no longer there. In his past life, he had left his family first; in this life, his family had left him first.

Did he have regrets? Of course!

But it was all due to forces beyond his control. Humans were too fragile.

Just like now. As much as he didn't want to disturb his grandfather's belongings, he had to find that sliver of hope to survive.

He opened the box. Inside was an old, blue-covered book, looking just like a martial arts manual from a TV drama. The title read: Secret Records of Recreating 'Cooking Master Boy' Recipes.

Although this was the manual he was looking for, the key to his survival, he didn't touch it. His attention was completely captivated by a letter resting on top of it.

Le Zhengling picked up the letter. On it were a few Chinese characters written with a calligraphy brush: To my grandson, Le Zhengling.

He gently unfolded the letter. There were no lengthy paragraphs or unnecessary instructions, just eight powerful, bold characters: Be a good person, and live a good life!

These eight words contained all of an old man's hopes for his grandson, and a love for the younger generation that could not be fully expressed in words.

Just as he was about to cry again, he noticed there was writing on the back. He turned it over and saw another sixteen bold characters: It is everyone's duty to continue the family line! Let our branches flourish, starting with you!

Seeing these words, Le Zhengling couldn't help but let out a "pfft" of laughter. The sadness in his heart instantly dissipated.

He could almost picture his grandfather writing these words: the old man must have seriously picked up the brush, thought for a long time, and then written the first eight characters on the front.

Then, feeling that was enough, he prepared to put the letter away, but hesitated. Finally, he unfolded it again and, with a cool smile, added the sixteen characters on the back. It could be seen as a prank on his grandson, or as a kind of obsession.

"Alright, alright, I promise. I'll continue our Le Zheng family line," Le Zhengling said with a smile, stroking the large characters on the paper.

He thought about keeping the letter close to his body, but considering he was covered in sweat, he placed it back in the box. He glanced at the time—ten minutes had already passed. He quickly picked up the recipe book and began flipping through it, reading ten lines at a glance.

The more he read the manual, the more he admired his grandfather.

His grandfather had actually managed to recreate those recipes based on the plot of Cooking Master Boy that he had rambled on about years ago. It was completely unscientific!

Even though I described the story of Cooking Master Boy in great detail, it's a manga plot! Old man, how on earth did you conceptualize real dishes from that? Why didn't you teach me this divine skill!

Besides, our Le Zheng family, if you trace it back, isn't it supposed to be a family of musicians? If I had told you a fragmented piece of music, and you managed to complete the score, I wouldn't blame you! But these are recipes! And from a made-up story!

Could it be that our Le Zheng family has some unknown divine ability?

With this suspicion in mind, Le Zhengling finally found the page for the Soul-Calming Noodles and began to read it carefully.

Five minutes later, he let out a soft sigh and put down the manual thoughtfully. "So that's how it is. Was the problem with me all along...?"

After reading everything, Le Zhengling also recalled that after he had finished telling the story of Cooking Master Boy, his grandfather would secretly do strange things every day. At that time, he had already started elementary school, so he didn't know the specifics of what his grandfather was doing.

But for a long time after that, his grandfather would often have him taste-test dishes or design strange things. Thinking back now, his grandfather was recreating those fantasy recipes, and he had used him to bring them to life.

Shaking his head with a wry smile, Le Zhengling put the "secret manual" back in the box, then carried the box back to his room. He grabbed another set of clothes and went into the bathroom. He wasn't worried at all anymore. He had completely mastered the recipe, and a deep-seated confidence welled up within him.

After a shower, he composed himself in front of the mirror and returned to the shop, looking at Nrvnqsr Chaos, who was still resting with his eyes closed.

Sensing his gaze, Nrvnqsr Chaos opened his eyes and said faintly, "You're running out of time."

Le Zhengling shrugged nonchalantly, glancing at the clock which now pointed to 11:15. "In the face of great matters, one must remain calm. The closer to life and death, the less you can afford to panic. Besides, I just promised someone I would live a good life, so I definitely won't be kicking the bucket here!"

With that, Le Zhengling gave a mischievous smile. His face, slightly flushed from the shower, combined with his confident grin, even seemed to affect Nrvnqsr Chaos, who let out a soft chuckle.

"If that's the case, then I shall wait and see!"
