The place where she and Ava had shared countless memories. Lily didn't move.
The driver glanced at her through the mirror.
"Are you getting out?"
Lily swallowed.
"Yes."
But she didn't open the door. She stared at the building.
Ava had been here, they had laughed here.
They had argued here.
They had stayed awake talking about their dreams.
Lily remembered Ava sitting on the couch with her legs folded beneath her while they watched television.
She remembered Ava complaining whenever Lily stole her favorite blanket.
She remembered waking up early and finding Ava already in the kitchen.
She remembered everything.
Her eyes filled with tears.
She wanted to go inside and to run upstairs.
She wanted to knock on the door and wait for Ava to open it.
