Maya made it back to her dorm with five minutes to spare before Torres came looking. Her lips still tingled from Ethan's kiss, her heart still racing from his declaration.
You chose me. Now I won't let anyone stop us.
Zoe took one look at her face and grinned. "Oh my god. You kissed him."
"How do you—"
"You have that look. The dazed, happy, slightly terrified look of someone who just made out with their crush." Zoe bounced on her bed. "Tell me everything."
"There's nothing to tell."
"Liar. Spill."
Maya sat on her bed, face heating. "We talked. And maybe kissed. And decided we're done pretending we don't have feelings for each other."
"Finally! I thought you two were going to dance around it forever." Zoe's grin was massive. "So you're together? Like, officially?"
"I guess? We didn't really define it. We just agreed we're done maintaining distance."
"That's basically couple territory." Zoe grabbed her phone. "Wait, does this mean Mateo's officially out of the running?"
