Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – A New Student’s Dilemma

The sound of chalk scraping against the blackboard filled the classroom.

Andy sat at his new desk by the window—classic anime protagonist seat, second row from the back. He couldn't help but smirk. Hah, at least clichés are consistent across worlds.

"Class, we have a new transfer student," the homeroom teacher announced. "Please introduce yourself."

Andy stood up, his hands slightly sweaty. A classroom full of curious eyes landed on him—some sparkling, some suspicious, and some… already calculating where he stood on the popularity chart.

"…My name is Hayashi Kazuki, but you can call me Andy."

The girls in the front row whispered."Ooh, Andy? That's kind of cool.""Foreign nickname… he must be stylish."

Meanwhile, the boys squinted like they had just found their mortal enemy.

Yup, Andy thought, nothing screams 'trouble' like a transfer student with a weird nickname. Watch, I'll get dragged into some anime nonsense before lunch break.

He sat down, pulling out the generic school notebook the system had helpfully provided in his "starter kit."

System Ping

[Mini-Quest: Survive Your First Day of Class]Reward: 10 EXP + 50 YenFailure: Embarrassment and mental trauma.

Andy coughed to hide his laugh. Even my system knows high school is hell.

As the lecture droned on, Andy's mind drifted. Alright, focus. I need a plan. This is DxD. Factions rule everything here. Do I join the Devils, the Church, or… God forbid… the Fallen Angels?

He scribbled in his notebook:

Faction Options

Devils: Cool powers, political backing, free mansion, hot girls. Downsides: Eternal debt to Rias.

Church: Holy power, potential teamwork with Asia. Downsides: Exorcists with swords who'll stab me for sneezing wrong.

Fallen Angels: Immediate death flag. Just no.

Andy tapped his pencil. "Harem anime logic says I'll end up with the Devils anyway," he muttered under his breath.

"Eh? Did you say something, Andy-kun?" a girl beside him asked.

"Ah, no, just… math. You know, devils, fractions… totally normal math!"

The class laughed. Andy buried his face in his notebook. Great. First impression: certified weirdo.

Lunch break came. Andy slipped out of the noisy cafeteria and opened the system menu.

"System, where am I even supposed to live? I don't exactly remember having parents in this world."

A blue screen popped up.

[System Background Generator]Status: Complete.Cover Story: Parents deceased (tragic car accident). Left behind a modest house + monthly inheritance of 100,000 Yen (~700 USD).NPCs: Nosy neighbor obaa-san (will check if you starve).

Andy groaned. "Of course… anime orphan cliché unlocked. Next thing you know, I'll find a childhood friend I don't remember."

Still, he couldn't deny it was convenient. At least I won't be sleeping under a bridge. And 100k Yen… not bad. That's enough for food, rent-free house, and maybe some manga if I budget well.

The system chimed in again.

[New Option Unlocked: Side Jobs]Earn extra Yen by completing daily quests (tutoring, part-time jobs, beating up delinquents).

"…So I have to grind in real life too?!" Andy slammed his forehead against the desk.

His classmates glanced at him, whispering."Is he okay?""Transfer students are weird…"

When the final bell rang, Andy packed up and made his way home. The house was a modest two-story building on a quiet street. Nothing fancy, but it felt… warm.

He tossed his bag onto the couch and collapsed dramatically. "Home, sweet system-generated home."

The fridge hummed faintly in the corner. Inside: neatly stocked groceries, courtesy of "dead parents' savings." A sticky note on the door caught his eye:

—From Obaa-san next door: Eat properly, or I'll scold you!

Andy chuckled. Even in another world, I can't escape nagging neighbors.

He cooked instant ramen, sat cross-legged on the floor, and opened his system menu again.

"Alright, system. If I'm gonna survive here, I need power-ups fast. What are my options?"

[Power Path Suggestions]

Train basic combat and meditation daily (+1 stat growth).

Use Random World Ticket to travel to another anime world for skills.

Form alliances with local factions.

Optional: Flirt with heroines for emotional stat bonuses.

Andy choked on his noodles. "Wait—did you just tell me to flirt?!"

[Affirmative. Emotional Bonds increase Charm, Luck, and unlock hidden routes.]

"…So you're telling me my system literally wants me to build a harem."

[Correct. Warning: Failure to maintain emotional balance may result in slap-based damage.]

Andy buried his face in his hands. "God, I really am in a harem anime."

Still, as he slurped the last of his ramen, he couldn't help but smile. The day had been exhausting, confusing, and ridiculous—but deep down, he felt a strange excitement.

Tomorrow, I'll train. Then, maybe… I'll try that Random World Ticket.

Andy lay back on the couch, staring at the ceiling.

"High School DxD, huh? Let's see if I can out-anime the anime itself."
