Chapter 1 - The Perfect Mistake

Man… life's a damn joke sometimes. You spend years fighting everyone—your own family even—just to marry the girl you love. And when you finally win, you feel like the king of the world. That was me. Dhruve. I thought I had cracked life's code. Work my ass off all day, drag myself back home half-dead, and then the door opens—there she is. My wife. Smiling, soft voice saying, "Welcome home, dear." Fuck, that feeling… like the whole world disappeared. Singles won't ever get it. They can laugh, but they don't know shit. That moment was heaven.

Three years like that. Pure bliss. Every day I thanked myself for not listening to my family. I was sure I'd made the right choice. Haha, yeah… idiot me.

Then came that morning. I was late. Rushed out like a mad dog—tie half-done, shoes not even polished. Grabbed the office files, slammed the door, ran for the cab. Didn't even realize I left my phone on the dining table. Damn thing just sitting there, screen down.

At the office, I felt weird. Like something missing. Kept patting my pockets, searching under papers during the meeting. Nothing. My chest felt heavy, like I'd lost a lung or something. That phone wasn't just a phone—it was her. Messages, photos, calls. My connection to her. Without it, I felt empty.

The meeting dragged like hell. My boss kept talking numbers, clients making fake laughs, and I was just staring blank. Then one client joked, "Haha, go home, man. Go see your wife, maybe she'll cheer you up." And suddenly it clicked. Yeah… why not? My phone's at home, she's at home, I can grab both.

So lunch break comes, and I run. Took a cab, city honking like crazy, my brain already imagining her face. She'd probably tease me—"Haha, again? Can't live one day without me?" Damn right I can't. I was even smiling like a fool in the taxi, excited to just see her.

Reached the building. Key in the lock. Heart beating fast like I was sneaking back from school. Door opened—bam. Smell of home. My place. My life. Phone lying on the table, waiting. Picked it up, felt better. All good.

But then… I walked past the bedroom.

And I heard it.

A sound. A laugh. Not just any laugh. Her laugh. But twisted. Different. And then… another sound. A man's voice. A rhythm I knew damn well.

My smile froze. My feet turned heavy. And that was the second my heaven shattered into pieces.
