Chapter 9 - Shock And Questions

Davon slumped onto his dorm bed, running a hand through his hair. His mind replayed the moment over and over—Elise. She was alive. She was right there in front of him.

He muttered under his breath, "I can't… I can't believe she's here…"

Grabbing his phone, he dialed his sister's number without thinking. The line connected, and he blurted out in a mix of excitement and fear, "Sis… I saw her. Elise… she's at the college. I don't know if she remembers me!"

His sister's voice was calm but curious. "Wait, what? She's alive? Davon, slow down and tell me what happened."

He ran a hand over his face, pacing the small room. "I saw her, really saw her. But… I don't know if she remembers anything. What if she doesn't? What if she thinks I'm just some stranger?"

"Take a breath," his sister said, a note of warning in her tone. "You can figure this out, Davon. Just… don't rush her."

He nodded, though she couldn't see him. He paced again, the weight of uncertainty pressing down on him. His mind raced with questions and possibilities, fear mingling with a joy he hadn't allowed himself to feel in years.

The knock at his door pulled him out of his thoughts. "Come in," he called.

A lady with a clipboard stepped inside, smiling politely. "Davon, just so you know, starting next month, you'll have a new dorm mate assigned to your room. They said to let you know in advance."

Davon blinked, still lost in thoughts of Elise. He barely registered her words. "Uh… okay," he muttered, more to himself than to her, his mind still occupied with the girl who had reappeared in his life—and the possibility that everything was about to change.
