Chapter 17 - Little Emeld

'This is your last warning.' but despite saying that, the Red Haired had not lowered his guard.

Elenbel glanced at the crater on the wall and then the man checked him back as he mumbled 'This fool—' but just in mid sentence, his whole head had disappeared like it never existed.

The kid with his barely opened eyes, focused upon the red idiot.

…

The red man had no outline on him. No, there was one but it was a thin grey outline which was fading into the background as such one would not be able to notice it without a closer look. The same one the boy had.

But soon the kid noticed the golden outline Elenbel had, was still there as his head regenerated once again and his outline was still strong.

Elenbel simply raised his five fingers from left arm as he pointed them towards the man as he spoke out in a tired manner 'You pitiful soul—' he paused and sighed 'Na~… It`s a lost cause.'

Elenbel, relaxed his left arm along with his five fingers and suddenly a wave of crushing high pressure was placed upon the red haired.

The boy's eyes widened as he saw Elenbel ready to thrust onto Red Haired's neck. His hand was wrapped in the wind that spun around it like a small storm as it pulled everything towards it.

While barely hanging onto his own life as he struggled to even breathe, the boy's thoughts were filled with worry and fear for someone else's death while blaming himself

'No, He- is going to die. It`s all— my fault…`

Just then a calm voice gently whispered in his ears 'Don`t worry'

The Red haired man looked up at the kid, smiling. He lifted his head easily despite the intense pressure and looked back towards Elenbel and said in a cold voice 'I warned you' as he held onto the boy tightly.

The red man loudly snapped with his thumb and middle finger as he whispered 'Cute Black Rabbit' …?

A line appeared from the red hair index finger that was connected to a weird thingy. It seemed like a blob. It looked like a blob. It could hardly be called a bunny. It looked almost like you told a child to draw a rabbit but it would be an insult to them if we compare their masterpiece with whatever– "thing" this man came up with.

A blob with two misplaced eyes. That thing tried to resemble a rabbit but had no ears but was not even close to being one. It sounded like the whole thing was a joke to him trying to take the Kid's attention towards it and away from the man as he tried to hide the sight behind that thing.

It had a body which was covering the view but the boy was still able to see through its translucent body.

He felt a sudden gust of wind swiped away from his face and a green spherical hemisphere was foamed around the kid as everything went silent.

The red hair tightened his grip onto the boy while his instincts screamed at him as he looked at Elenbel whose stomach had a hole with not a single drop of blood bleeding out from it. His hands were resting downwards, no longer thrusting but this did not calm the red hair down.

The Red hair man felt the boy's body twitch but his eyes were wide open and fully locked onto Elenbel to even be able to check on him.

Elenbel, who had an expressionless face, looked up into the Red haired eyes, striking unsettling unease onto his heart even when Elenbel had a hole in his chest.

He tried touching and grabbing his chest but nothing came to his hands, just tatted pieces of clothes.

'Ah~ No— not the clothes…' as he stared at them with narrowed eyes yet expressionless face.

'I– must have used too much strength'

Elenbel just stood there unfazed as he regenerated his alone clothes first.

He was still indifferent to it all and the room was filled with silence.

Elenbeel just looked up looking at Red Haired 'I guess there do exist people like them too every now and then'

Elenbel just smiled peacefully. His eyes that were narrowed and arrogant looked so peaceful and kind and he opened his mouth, hesitating a bit before smiling and repeating once again 'Now that is what I call a human'

He rested his arm and felt like a whole different person while smiling. He laughed to himself 'A Pitiful King, hah~?'

The red man heard him and looked at him confused. Elenbel's eyes were not looking towards the red haired but the boy who was laid there nearly unconscious.

The red man mumbled 'Did he just– smiled?'

But it was already too late to question anything. After all, Elenbel's body had started to crumble from his right arm and then stomach.

Even if Elenbel was a single line that is strongest alone… A line can still be broken by overwhelming force beyond the limits of what defines a human.

The sole line of Elenbel which he claimed to be strongest was torn apart with no resistance.

His body which was unfazed by all attacks now slowly started to be consumed by the cracks and crumble apart just like the throne.

Cracks reached out to his head and broke it off. His neck and collar bone crumbled off like a stone emitting golden dust behind as it slowly disappeared.

The cracks slowly spread out on his falling head. Just then his left eye caught the attention of the red ribbon that was falling beside him still attached to his arm.

His eyes reflected two faceless teens, both with their back facing Elenbel.

A red haired girl, who held her wrist behind her back with fist clenched as she leaned forwards smiling and glancing towards the white haired boy while the boy's face turned towards Elenbel, waving at him almost like calling out his name.

A voice whispered in his head "This is our ribbon of friendship. A ribbon that will connect allll~ three of us together. This way we will never forget one another" as the faceless white haired man smiled brightly but the reflection disappeared from his eyes as they became dull…

Elenbel closed his only remaining eye while apologizing in his own head 'I am sorry Jaron… but I have already forgotten both of your faces'

Or he should have but his mouth had already crumbled.

What was his face during his last moments as he whispered those words? Was he smiling, sad or maybe even crying behind shut eyes. One thing for sure was he was "himself".

The ribbon that had fallen now sat alone on the ground, still moving a bit in the wind, still tied together but now left alone without an arm to wear it, again.

Only for it to eventually be broken apart like shattered glass just like the rest and turn into dust.

The broken outline gathered to one singular point like being compressed, got absorbed into a small sphere and… just disappeared into nothingness.

Elenbel was gone but never did he bleeded a single drop except for his own wound and the one left behind on his left arm by the boy.

The red hair finally let his guard down and let out a breath in relief 'What— Just like that?' with confusion as sweat ran down his face.

He turned his face towards the Kid who was barely able to open his eyes. The red hair was nervous but he still smiled gently for the Kid.

The door which was broken in from. One side of it opened up to reveal a path of light beyond it while the other stayed broken on the ground. The kid's mind was no longer able to think properly as he had a headache and felt light headed from all the pain and bleeding.

The kid saw a dark shadow behind the man as he barely mumbling out 'Please don't die…' as he tried to hold onto his cloth but had no strength left even to do so.

'You can rest now. I will take care of the rest' replied the red man.

The Kid barely was able to keep his eyes open as he looked at him. He was nervous but he still smiled for the Kid.

The Kid uttered 'Emeld Promise?'

"Little Emeld" was an old fashioned promise based on a popular folktale used to scare misbehaving kids. It is about a cute and innocent looking blue-greenish/Emerald-ish haired devil who looks like a child with orange eyes who will come to you if you break the promise and grabs your will from your heart and destroys it if you misbehave, leaving you in despair but Emeld does not hurt anyone who listens to adults and behave well.

Although it was uncommon for children these days to know but saying it just showed that he was still just a child.

He paused for a moment and let out a suppressed laugh and said smiling 'I promise I wouldn`t die' but the Kid had already closed his eyes.

'I guess I was worried over nothing.' as he looked towards his broken sword 'Lets get you a new one'.

The sword was broken into three pieces which made it unrepairable so he decided to leave it behind.

He carried the kid in arms and took him outside as the void room started to crumble down but as he stepped outside the door just to be met with soldiers.

A middle aged man with a steady build stepped up. He looked both calm and collected as he said 'You really are insane for breaking in like that.'

The red haired man just looked at him as he reached his arms out as if asking him to give the kid to them which would have been normal as they will send him back to the town after bandaging him.

The red haired man just grabbed onto the kid tighter as a response of rejecting their offer 'Na uh, I will take him back myself' with his usual smile.

'Give him over to us. I need to question him about something.'

He thought confused 'Give?' and replied 'No I insist' still with a smile on his face.

'I know how you are defensive about younglings but we must question him about the incident and the void boss. It`s the will of king' but seemingly the old man looked a bit worried and worked up over this.

'Then go get your king' said the red man with no hesitation.

Everyone was baffled except for the leader and a pink haired man yawning who seemingly had no interest in whatever was going on. He had an orange ball hanging from his sword but was only one unscratched after the leader.

The leader spoke 'Even if you were given the rank of hero despite not being one, you have no right to disrespect the king or us… You should not defy the orders and laws.'

'Is that so?' the red haired closed his eyes as his hair waved in the wind only to open his back to find the eyes whose Iris veins were glowing red like crimson blood and pupils were black and wavery like a yawn but Leader showed not a single sign of fear upon seeing them.

'You tell me which king of yours orders you to slap a child? I know your methods but using them against a child is something I can not overlook'

The unit leader looked at the kid's swollen face and remembered it was not swollen back then at the village or when they found him. He was not in perfect condition but still confused, he turned back and took a look at his men.

Only then did his expression change as a few of them had their eyes lowered down as if admitting it.
