Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

The steam from the train rose into the sky and spread out. 1800s London. In this world, everyone has a power, mana, an energy in the body to summon special abilities. Arin was a young man of 17 years. He had mana, but every time he summoned an ability, it wasn't blue, but black. The normal color was blue, but no one else in the world had black mana. Arin ran quickly to the tower, upwards. "P-please, I—I'll pay the money immediately tomorrow" The group chased Arin up to the tower. Now nothing stood in his way except a barrier that wasn't very big. Arin stood at the corner, close to falling. Across from him were about five other older boys. They all had smiles on their faces. "Man, you're scared. Come on, fight already" They all burst into laughter. Arin clenched his fist, but he whispered, "I—I don't have to listen to this anymore" The boys looked at each other and laughed. Then one stepped forward and spoke in a mocking tone. "Well then, die" The boy raised his hand, and lightning gathered in the middle. Blue lightning shot at Arin. Arin closed his eyes and accepted his life. He knew the attack wouldn't kill him, but he would surely fall from the tower. Just before the lightning hit, time slowed down, and Arin thought, "Is it really that bad? I have no friends, no family anyway. What's so bad about it? No one would miss me" A smile formed on Arin's lips, and he waited for the impact. But just before the lightning touched his face, something shot against the lightning so fast that no one could see what it was. Arin flinched, and so did the gang. "H-hey, i-idiot, what did you do?" Arin shook his head. "I did nothing" The gang now looked very angry and came toward Arin. The boy in the middle grabbed Arin by the collar of his hoodie. "That's it for Arin" The boy pulled with a jerk and struck Arin off the tower. But Arin didn't scream or mourn; he was quiet. Just before impact, one last thought shot through his mind. "Will my family line die with me?" One last smile, more ironic than sad. Then Arin hit the ground and died.

2026 London. "Argh" Arin jerked awake. His head throbbed, his body ached. He was in a hospital bed, but somehow it looked better than usual, more spacious, more modern. Arin sat on the side of the bed and looked around. Now he realized he was in a hospital room. "I—I survived? Impossible?" Arin tried to get up but failed and fell onto the hard floor with a loud thud. A few seconds later, a woman came in. She was dressed in blue and wore rubber gloves. "Sir, is everything okay?" Arin lay on the cold floor, unable to get up with his own strength. "Yes, but I can't get up somehow, and I have a little pain. Tell me…how did I survive that fall?" The so-called nurse helped Arin up and laid him back on the bed. Then she stared oddly into the air. "Now, which fall? Are you sure he is okay?" Arin went into shock. It all made sense… It was impossible that Arin survived the fall. No. "I—I was reborn…" Arin thought. He looked at the nurse and said, "Excuse me, I think I hit my head. What year is it?" The nurse looked stranger and stranger but answered his question. "It's 8.2 2026, sir." Arin's eyes widened. Suddenly, a huge shock ran through him. It was true… these memories, they were there. Did I have two lives? A black crack appeared in Arin's vision, and he saw only a black line. It spread, and Arin saw complete darkness. Arin fell asleep. "Hello? …hello? Umm, hellooo?" Arin opened his eyes. A beautiful woman sat on his bed. She looked to be around Arin's age. "Ah, you're awake. Good. I was told you fainted, so I healed you with my magic, and now I can also tell you what went wrong." The beautiful girl had blonde hair, green eyes, and a beautiful smile. As she spoke, Arin fell in love. "N-now, what is it?" Arin said in a hoarse voice. "Quite simple…" The girl smiled. "You had no stamina." "Now everything should be fine again. Do you have any questions?" Arin's eyes flashed. My chance. "To be honest, I have two questions. So…where did you find me?" The girl laughed. "I think you lost your memory. We found you there." The girl pointed out the window, and a chill ran down Arin's spine. She pointed at the tower where Arin had been thrown. "Hmm, strange." Arin nodded and spoke. "The second question is…so, what is your name?" The girl laughed and blushed. "M-my name is Lya. Well, I don't want to brag, but I am Rank 5 in Healing Mana." She laughed shyly. Arin blushed. "Now, would you like to meet?" Lya blushed even more. "Yes, meet me at the café next door at 6 PM." Arin looked at the clock in the corner of the room. Luckily, it was an analog clock, and he could read it. Five hours left. "Okay, perfect," Arin smiled. Lya smiled back and said, "See you, Mike." Arin's heart stopped. M-Mike? What did she mean by Mike? Lya gave Arin his file. Now, in front of the door, Arin walked into the crowd with a smile. Arin was shocked. What kind of houses and towers are these? And these people's clothes? A whole new world waiting to be explored. Arin was now in the middle of a street full of people. His head throbbed, and he saw the black cut in his eye again. It exploded, and memories flooded into Arin's mind. "Arghh, ahhh" Arin disappeared into his thoughts.

"Mike! We will get her, don't worry!" "Well, a little faster, shall we?" Mike was chased across the street by a strong man. It was now midnight. "What did you do with my wife? Ahh, I will get you!" Mike was much faster than the man, so he stopped briefly. "Wow, calm down, man. Nothing really happened. She's 30 anyway. Maybe perfect for you, hahaha." Mike stood in the middle of the street and saw the strong man raise his hand. Red particles surrounded the man's hand. They became a burning fireball aimed directly at Mike. Mike dodged quickly; it wasn't even close. "Nothing really happened, man." Mike was lightning fast and suddenly behind the man. Mike raised his hand and struck the back of the man's neck. He collapsed immediately. Mike pulled his body into a quiet corner. Then he went back onto the street. His hands were in his pockets as if nothing happened. But suddenly, black particles surrounded Mike. Mike looked around in panic. "Not already wi-" The Nexus calls–

"Arghhh" Arin was still in the crowd. It looked as if not a second had passed. "W-what the hell is the Nexus?"
