Chapter 2 - An unexpected lover : Kevin

Catherine sat by the window of her college dorm, her fingers curled around a steaming mug of cocoa, watching the rain blur the world outside. It was the kind of day that made memories resurface—memories of her first love, the one that had cracked her heart open: Kevin.

She had met Kevin during her first year at university. He was tall, effortlessly charming, with a smile that made girls giggle and professors nod. Catherine was drawn to him instantly. Angel, her best friend since high school, had warned her.

"He's cute, Cath, but I've heard things… don't rush."

But how could she not? Kevin seemed to understand her in ways no one else did. He remembered the smallest details—her favorite color, how she took her tea, even the way her eyes lit up when she talked about writing. He made her feel like she mattered.

For months, they were inseparable. He'd walk her to class, surprise her with midnight calls just to say "I miss you," and kiss her forehead in front of his friends like she was his whole world. Catherine fell hard, fast, and deep.

But slowly, the fairy tale unraveled.

It started with late replies and missed dates. Then came the excuses—"I was busy," "My phone died," "You're overthinking." Catherine tried to hold on. She told herself it was stress or exams, or maybe even her fault for needing too much.

One night, she found him outside a party, laughing with another girl, her arms wrapped around his waist. Catherine froze. Kevin saw her but didn't let go.

"Cath, it's not what you think," he had said after, brushing it off with a laugh. "We were just talking."

But Angel had seen enough. She cornered Catherine in their dorm. "You deserve better," she said firmly. "He's not treating you right."

Catherine wanted to believe Kevin. She wanted the version of him that had written her poetry and held her like the world could fall apart and he'd still be there. But that version was gone. And all that was left was a ghost of a boy who didn't care.

The breakup came quietly. No shouting, no drama. Just a long text from Kevin, saying he needed space, that things weren't working, that maybe they were too different after all.

Catherine read it alone in the library, tears falling silently on her notes.

She didn't reply.

That night Catherine cried like a baby who got bitten by an insect in it's crib . Angel tired her best to comfort Catherine but to no avail, until finally she fell asleep.

The next Catherine spent her day in her dorm, crying and asking herself what she did wrong to deserve the break up. Angel tried console her this time and made progress but she had to leave because she had a class and it was a six unit course so it was very important so she can come out with a first class in Business administration.

This went on for a week, Catherine was rarely seen outside or at any party, she always avoided crowded places . Kevin on the other hand was seen galavanting with his new girlfriend and acted as if nothing happened between him and Catherine,on seeing this Catherine was even more heart broken but decided to move on with her life and remain single forever until the right man for her came .
