NOTE from the author, must read.
Hello, author here. Thanks for giving my book a try. There wasn't any auxiliary chapter before but I just decided to add it.
Since some readers don't usually read the synopsis.
The subtle world-building is in the synopsis to avoid unusual info dump.
And you read this at your own risk. The fun part about this book is for you to learn more about the world the more you read. Which means unravelling more layers as time goes on.
Let's get started, shall we?
The ranking system is just like any other common system novels, strongest to weakest:
SSS, SS, S, A, B, C, D, E, F, FF, FFF.
I may have added the last two but you get it now, right?
On to the Class System. Class System is based on chessboard pieces. Think of them as social status that affects the ranks.
King, Queen, Knight, Bishop, Rook, Pawn.
All the classes seem limited, but it's not.
Each class bears unique attributes. But it also complemented the class.
So it's like this: A-rank Knight that has an attribute to teleport. Because Knights are often said as unpredictable. The same way another A-rank Knight has an entirely different attribute.
But if someone is an A-rank Rook, even a C-rank Queen could overpower a Rook. An higher class is important than an higher rank.
There are thoughts about the KING class.
According to the synopsis, Kings here are myths. No one has ever received a King class before. They are not rulers, neither do they hold more power than a Queen. A lot of the class system more understandable because after all, it's based on chess.
WORLD
This storyline focuses on the dimensional rift. The modern world—where Elian is from. And the Historical-fantasy world.
Since there are two sides of a chessboard, the modern world —black chess pieces, the historical-fantasy world—white chess pieces.
Graybloods/dustwalkers?
It is simple, This is a degrading term used by the modern world, to belittle or dehumanize the white pieces (historical fantasy dwellers) mostly because after the Dimensional rift, all the creatures and monsters from their world, corrupted and invaded the modern world.
Like in the synopsis, there are doppelgangers, yes. This is explained as a mirror effect. Everyone in this world has a Doppelganger, since one side is mirroring the other.
Doppelgangers can take or 'claim' identities. It goes vice versa. If a black piece kills a white piece doppelganger, they can claim the class for themselves. And live like the person. Although there's a twist to this.
SIDE-NOTE: Pay extra attention to the character's dialogues. They reveal the world lore and mysteries than any info dump could do.
There are subtle hints thrown all over the chapters, a few readers caught on. Nice catching on to the rest. Use your brains too. I hope you love reading it.
Now read the chapters and watch a weak ass MC with a pawn class crawl his way to the top. It's brutal, gory and you'll love it.
