She didn't wait for a better time because there was no better time. She went to the Medicine Hall at first light, knocked on Lin Yue's office door, and sat in the chair across from the desk where foxglove jars lined the shelf and Lira's letters lived in a breast pocket and the empty space where Sera Voss had discussed relocation protocols three days ago was exactly as empty as it had been when the thing wearing Sera's face had walked out of it.
Lin Yue listened. She didn't interrupt. She sat behind her desk with her hands flat on the surface — the stabilizing gesture, palms against something solid — and she listened to Raven describe the Observatory examination, the beetle emergence, the guard who'd given his life, and the final, absolute confirmation that Sera Voss was gone.
