Corin woke without knowing what had woken him. He lay still and let the warmth of the beast behind him come through his coat, and it was the first time in three nights he'd been warm enough to sleep through anything, and he was awake anyway. The fire was low. Margery sat on the far side of it with her knees drawn up and a stick in her hand, poking the embers together, because it was her turn to sit up and watch the ground. Wilmer was asleep across the fire from Corin with his back against a yearling steer and his hat over his face. The kneeling cow was beside him, where she'd gone down at dusk.
She was still kneeling.
"What is it?" Corin asked.
Margery didn't turn her head. "The sheep."
