Chapter 7 - 7

Joe Martinez stood there watching Lake walk out, blinked, then came to his senses and quickly chased after him.

bite!

In the elevator.

Lake frowned at Joe Martinez, who had suddenly intervened and walked in just as the elevator doors were about to close. "Detective Martinez, what's up?"

Joe Martinez took a deep breath and stood next to Lake. "Where do we go now?"

us?

When did it become us?

A question mark appeared in Lake's head, and then he said to Joe, "It's almost noon. Take a break and get ready to go to lunch after get off work. Do you want me to treat you?"

"What?"

Joe Martinez took a deep breath. "We have a case on our hands, and it's only ten in the morning, Detective Edwin."

Lake shrugged.

What's the difference between ten o'clock and twelve o'clock? What can you do in two hours? Isn't it almost time to get off work at noon?

bite!

The elevator door opens.

Lake walked towards his desk.

Nothing else.

Lake remembered the origin of the body lying on the dissection table.

Isn't this the senior member of the textile factory who was trying to look cool for just one minute at the beginning of the wanted poster and then got shot in the head and fell to the ground?

The plot of Wanted has started?

But Lake said he didn't care at all.

Now that we know who the body belongs to, it's easy. We just have to sit back and wait. When the time comes, we can organize the information and hand it over to the FBI and that's it.

The murderer who killed the body downstairs was Cross. There is no doubt that this guy died abroad, and then this will be an interstate case, which is the FBI's business.

Case closed.

A perfect ending.

It's just a part-time job anyway, so why bother with it? Just do it casually.

Qiao Ke didn't know this. She looked at Lake and frowned, "So, this is how you handle cases. Wait for the murderer to come and confess?"

Lake looked up and sighed, "So, Detective Martinez, what are your thoughts?"

Joe said, "We should go to the jail."

"Why?"

"An unknown body appeared in the prison. Isn't this suspicious? How did this body appear in the prison?"

"Yeah, that makes sense."

Lake nodded, agreeing with Joe's analysis, and then said, "Detective Martinez, how about this? You go to the prison and investigate this matter."

Qiao was slightly stunned: "Me, what about you?"

Lake thought for a moment and said, "I didn't eat last night. I plan to go out for breakfast first. If you're willing to wait, that's fine."

Joe was silent for a moment, glanced at Lake, then turned and left.

Lake watched Joe leave and couldn't help shaking his head.

That's why Lake likes to work cases alone.

Because for some cases, he doesn't need to conduct all kinds of investigations like other detectives. He knows the result from the beginning, and then he just needs to look for it based on the result.

But it's not good to have a burden around.

Fortunately, it's just one case.

Let's talk about Joe over there. After he left the building, he got into his car. He didn't believe a single punctuation mark about what Lake had just said about having breakfast.

Willingness is simple.

Yesterday, after Qiao found out that her partner was Lake, she went home and asked the people at the 13th Precinct to find some basic information about Lake from her old unit.

Let me put it this way.

Since joining the New York Police Department, Lake has never had the luxury of having a nice breakfast outside. People have always thought that Lake is a stingy person, but after the information was leaked from the Internal Affairs Investigation Department, Lake's character has changed from a stingy person to a very good person.

This is not my own choice.

This is all because the cheater is trying to launder money and put the blame on me.

Lake wanted to tell them.

He is so poor that he only has this year's property tax left. He doesn't even have money for the lottery, so how can he have spare money to donate to welfare organizations?

There are no such things as orphanages in the United States. All orphans must be adopted by families. If it weren't for this, Lake wouldn't have bothered to find adoptive parents for himself.

Talkative.

All in all, Joe felt that Lake was definitely not going to have breakfast.

but...

Joe thought about Lake who seemed to be not concerned about the case at all, and wanted to say that Lake was a useless detective, but Lake had a rich record of solving cases.

Does this guy have other channels?

Joe thought about it, shook his head, put his thoughts aside, and drove to Ricos Island Prison where the body was found.

Around noon.

Sitting in the conference room with his legs crossed, Lake, who had been dozing off, opened his eyes and smiled at Joe, who had returned from prison in anger. "Hit a snag?"

Joe covered his forehead and looked at Lake: "Did you know this?"

Lake sat up straight and stretched. "Rikers Island is the largest prison in New York. It also has another name."

Joe asked, "What?"

Lake said, "The largest private prison."

Qiao: "…"

An unknown body appeared in the prison incinerator. How could this be possible without the help of the prison people? If Lake's guess was correct, this prison incinerator was probably one of the many bases of the killer world's cleanup team to help killers destroy corpses.

This case was reported by an intern at the prison crematorium. The story went like this: the intern's master was out for something at the time, and the intern probably wanted to make a good impression on his master so he took the initiative to help.

result...

It's a big trouble.

That poor intern was probably about to disappear, no, he was probably already gone, as could be seen from the expression on Joe's face.

"They're obstructing law enforcement," Joe said.

Lake said, "Then what can you do? The lowest-ranking lawyers employed by the prison earn more every month than our annual salary."

Damn it, I should have studied law in college.

What the hell is studying public administration?

My brain must have gone haywire.

Lake felt a little jealous when he thought about the annual salary of those lawyers, but when he thought about the time it takes to become a lawyer and the difficulty of graduation, he was not so jealous anymore.

After all, it's a free university, so you can't be picky.

Get up.

Lake walked out of the conference room, came to his desk, and handed a document to Joe in front of him.

Joe took over: "What is this?"

Lake said: "The identity of the anonymous person downstairs."

Although the fingerprint database cannot find any matching data, it does not mean that it cannot be compared through other places.

A dental database is much more powerful than a fingerprint database.

Unlike Easterners or Asians, people in the West attach great importance to teeth, and being a dentist here can be said to be a golden profession.

It's obvious.

Even a killer would care about having a good set of teeth.

The contract will arrive today. If you want to invest, hurry up!
