David sat in his tiny work booth, tapping furiously the keys of his laptop. His tired, droopy eyes showed that he was a Software Engineer, working with a large international gaming corporation
'Gosh... Being a Software Dev sucks' he thought, remembering his high school and university days when he was an avid gamer. He always had those big dreams of winning the World eSports League and becoming a big-name gamer, earning millions of dollars a year from endorsements. Alas, after graduating with a first class degree from a Top 20 university, he was integrated into society. 3 years later, he still worked as a small software engineer for Re-World, the biggest online simulation game in the world, averaging over 2.5 billion downloads.
As David sat there reminiscing and thinking of his rather bleak prospects, he did not notice that there was a change in the atmosphere.
Outside, passerbys stopped suddenly to look at the sky, looks of fear and awe evident in their faces. In the sky was a huge bright portal-like wormhole, appearing out of nowhere.
Chaos erupted suddenly. Women ran for safety, some even abandoning their children. People pushed one another, many even dieing from the aftermath.
Then from within the wormhole a loud, bold voice rang out.
' People of Planet, ehh... Planet X126#, you have been selected as the next planet to host the SuperCell and therefore your planet will be devoured' The voice said matter-of-factly.
Groans and exclamations rang out from the people beneath. A foolish young man came forward and yelled at the wormhole 'You useless crazy fool, get back to wherever you came from or we'll make you pay'. Behind him the crowd exclaimed and hummed in agreement but clearly maintained distance. Afterall, an entity that could speak through a wormhole would definitely have no problems killing them, right?
Of course they were right 😂. A red light shone from within the wormhole on the noisy fool and he combusted, making the others thank the heavens that they weren't as foolish as him. The entity didn't even mention it, like it was a merely inconsequential matter to him or it. Then it said calmly 'Initiating destruction sequence'.
By now, David had already heard the commotion and had stepped out of the office.
'What the...' he exclaimed loudly, breaking the unusual silence that had permeated the entire area.
Then suddenly...
'Hmmm, a Lord in such a backward demeaning planet. Well, might as well take you and destroy the whole planet anyways' the voice said, surprise echoing in it's voice.
David moved back, the words he had heard scaring him a little. Suddenly, a bright light enveloped him and tossed him into the wormhole. As he screamed and fell into it, he watched Earth slowly combust in front of him, a void feeling spreading within him.
