Chapter 183 - Chapter 182: Chaos True Spirit

With the Chaos True Spirit, the clarity of the laws could be improved again.

So Luo Fan planned to obtain some Chaos True Spirit first before slowly comprehending the laws. After all, stacking improvements before cultivation always made things more efficient.

The Chaos True Spirit was something he would need sooner or later. It was obviously better to obtain it early.

After making the decision, Luo Fan immediately flew toward the outside of the city.

Chaos True Spirit could only be obtained by killing Chaos Beasts, creatures unique to the area outside Chaos City.

Before long, Luo Fan flew out of the city gate.

After traveling for a while, he saw an enormous stone stele.

The general content inscribed on the stele read:

Chaos True Spirit: When the universe was in its initial state, this "primordial universe" naturally gave birth to strange lifeforms. These lifeforms looked peculiar and were temporarily named Chaos Beasts.

Their strength varied greatly. Each one was naturally skilled in certain origin laws, some in many, some in few.

When a Chaos Beast was killed, it would turn into a large amount of chaotic energy and a green point of light. That green point of light was the creature's core. Chaos Beasts had no soul. Their only life core was this light, which was named the Chaos True Spirit.

Absorbing the Chaos True Spirit simply required drawing it into one's body. It would automatically merge with the soul.

The stele also listed the rules for hunting Chaos Beasts:

Immortal beings are forbidden from attacking Chaos Beasts.

Chaos Beasts have low intelligence and have been classified by the top experts of Chaos City into three zones:

The first zone is the inner layer, closest to Chaos City, within two thousand kilometers of the city walls. All Chaos Beasts here are at the cosmic level.

The second zone spans from two thousand to ten thousand kilometers away. This is the middle layer, home to Domain Lord–level Chaos Beasts.

The third zone is the outer layer, home to World Master–level Chaos Beasts.

Chaos Beasts only range from the cosmic level to the World Master level. If any Immortal-level Chaos Beast were discovered, Chaos City would dispatch experts to eliminate it.

Domain Lord–level cultivators are only allowed to hunt in the middle layer and must not appear in the inner layer.

World Masters are only allowed to hunt in the outer layer and must not appear in the inner or middle layers.

After reading everything, Luo Fan flew directly toward the middle layer.

Even though the middle layer contained Domain Lord–level Chaos Beasts, Luo Fan wasn't worried. If anything went wrong, he could use his ship. Even without it, he could summon his avatars to help.

Most of his avatars were currently in the Law-Origin Mystic Realm hunting Water-Source Beasts for him, but he still carried dozens of spares. They were useful for tasks or scouting dangerous places.

Luo Fan soon reached the inner layer. To reach the middle layer, he would need to fight his way through.

Chaotic energy drifted everywhere in the inner layer, making it difficult to see far. The desolate wasteland was overgrown with grass, an ancient landscape where even ordinary weeds and scattered rocks differed fundamentally from matter in the original universe. After countless years bathed in chaotic energy, the rocks all shared a common trait: no matter how long they existed, they did not decay.

Luo Fan had flown only a few dozen kilometers when he saw a Chaos Beast that resembled an octopus. Its body was dark green, with dozens of tentacles.

Looking at it, Luo Fan couldn't help but comment, "Buddy, did you wander into the wrong world? This is the Devouring World. Let me send you to the Cthulhu world next door. That's where you belong."

He created a mission.

[Mission: Hunt one cosmic-level Chaos Beast. Reward: Cosmic Soul Pearl +1]

As soon as he established the mission, the creature rushed toward him eagerly. It seemed this "octopus" was indeed eager to visit the Cthulhu world next door.

Luo Fan didn't hesitate. He swung his blade lightly, releasing a transparent arc of light. The Chaos Beast was instantly killed.

Its blood and flesh quickly decayed into chaotic energy, and a green point of light floated upward. Luo Fan wrapped it with his mind power.

The moment his mind touched it, the green point merged into his soul.

Rumbling sounds came from the ground as the corpse turned into chaotic energy, shaking the surrounding energy currents.

Many other octopus-like Chaos Beasts were drawn to the disturbance.

Ignoring the mission completion notification in his mind, Luo Fan quickly created another mission.

[Mission: Hunt thirty-four cosmic-level Chaos Beasts. Reward: Cosmic Soul Pearl +34]

This group happened to contain thirty-four "octopus brothers," so he created a mission for all of them at once. None of them could escape him anyway.

This time he used the fourth form of the Tide God Blade.

A vast sea of blade light swept outward.

In the next moment, all the octopus Chaos Beasts were sent to the Cthulhu world.

(The octopus brothers: We truly appreciate it!)

Soon, their blood and flesh dissolved into chaotic energy, leaving several green Chaos True Spirits behind.

Luo Fan collected all of them. With a sweep of his mind power, the Chaos True Spirits merged into his soul.

His soul felt a wave of refreshing comfort, like drinking a cold soda on a hot summer day.

He looked up at the external manifestation of the laws in the sky and attempted to comprehend them. He found that his perception had indeed improved, though only slightly. All laws were clearer, though only a little. This was likely because he had not absorbed enough Chaos True Spirit yet.

He planned to hunt more.

As for the Soul Pearls from the missions, he would claim them after his Chaos True Spirit absorption reached its limit.

Luo Fan continued flying toward the middle layer.

He found that most Chaos Beasts in the inner layer were first-order cosmic-level creatures. The Chaos True Spirits they produced did not help him much. After all, his genetic level was now forty-fold.

He hunted his way forward and eventually reached the middle layer.

Upon arrival, he immediately saw another octopus-like Chaos Beast, similar to the ones he had encountered earlier. It seemed he really was fated with these "octopus brothers."

[Mission: Hunt one Domain Lord-level Chaos Beast. Reward: Domain Lord Soul Pearl +1]

After establishing the mission, Luo Fan didn't waste time. He unleashed the fourth form of the Tide God Blade.

The sea of blades surged toward the octopus Chaos Beast.

Its hundreds of tentacles swung rapidly, shattering Luo Fan's blade arcs one after another.
