Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The beginning

You are a Venari ,you possess supernatural strength, agility, and magical abilities that make you a formidable hunter of monsters. In the world of Remnant, where humans and supernatural creatures coexist, venaris like yourself are revered and feared. Your kind has been tasked with protecting humanity from the forces of darkness,With your exceptional abilities and training, you're equipped to take on even the most terrifying monsters. Your magical abilities, known as "Aura," allow you to sense and track your prey, as well as unleash powerful attacks.

As a Venari, you've been trained in the art of combat and monster hunting from a young age. You're skilled in hand-to-hand combat, sword fighting, and strategy and apparently the venaris in the city of Eridoria were either dead or left, which means you are the last one.But to the normal world, you are a young detective barely over his mid 20's specializing in paranormal cases. You've been hired by the wealthy and enigmatic Mr. Edward Blackstone to investigate a mysterious occurrence at his mansion. You arrive at the mansion, you notice a eerie atmosphere, the trees surrounding the mansion seem to lean in, as if they're trying to listen to your conversation. The mansion itself appears to be in a state of disrepair, with cobwebs hanging from the chandeliers and a thick layer of dust covering everything.

Mr. Blackstone greets you in the foyer, his eyes sunken and his skin pale. "Ah, detective Walcott," he says. "I'm glad you're here. I fear something is terribly wrong in this house."He leads you to a door at the end of the hall, which appears to lead to a study or library. "This is where it happened," he says. "My-my daughter, Elizabeth, was in this room when...when she disappeared."

You push open the door and step inside. The room is dimly lit, with only a single candle flickering on the desk. You notice a piece of paper on the desk, with a cryptic message scrawled on it:

*They're coming for us. Don't trust the shadows,. "*

You decide to ask Mr. Blackstone more questions about the message and Elizabeth's disappearance, while also investigating the study further for any other clues.

"Mr. Blackstone, can you tell me more about this message?" you ask, holding up the piece of paper. "Do you recognize the handwriting?"

Mr. Blackstone's expression turns grim. "I don't recognize the handwriting, but I think I know what it might be referring to. Elizabeth had been acting strangely in the days leading up to her disappearance. She was nervous and on edge, and she kept talking about feeling like she was being watched."

You nod, taking mental notes. "Did she mention anything specific about who or what might be watching her?"

Mr. Blackstone hesitates. "She mentioned something about...shadows. She said she felt like there were shadows following her everywhere she went."

You frown, intrigued by the mention of shadows. You decide to investigate the study further, searching for any other clues that might explain Elizabeth's disappearance.

As you search the room, you notice a small, hidden compartment in the bookshelf. Inside, you find a journal belonging to Elizabeth. As you flip through the pages, you come across an entry that catches your eye:

"I've seen them again. The shadows. They're getting closer. I don't know what they want, but I know I'm in danger. I have to get out of here before it's too late."

You feel a chill run down your spine as you read the entry. You decide to continue searching the study for more clues, while also investigating the mansion's security systems to see if there's any evidence of intruders.

As you search the study, you notice a small, almost imperceptible seam in the wall. You press on it, and a hidden panel slides open, revealing a complex security system. You see a series of monitors displaying feeds from cameras throughout the mansion, as well as a control panel with various buttons and levers, " You've got to be kidding me!" you sighed. You start to investigate the security system, looking for any signs of tampering or unusual activity. After a few minutes of searching, you find a log of recent security breaches. One entry in particular catches your eye:

"Unauthorized access detected in East Wing corridor. Camera feed disrupted for 30 seconds."

You realize that this must be the area where Elizabeth was last seen. You decide to investigate the East Wing corridor and see if you can find any evidence of what happened to Elizabeth.

As you make your way to the East Wing, you notice that the atmosphere in the mansion seems to be growing more and more oppressive. You can't shake the feeling that you're being watched, and the shadows seem to be deepening and growing more menacing.

When you arrive at the East Wing corridor, you see that it's a long, dark hallway with several doors leading off to either side. You start to search the corridor, looking for any signs of disturbance or clues to Elizabeth's disappearance.

As you search, you notice that one of the doors seems to be slightly ajar. You push it open and find yourself in a large, dimly lit room. The room is filled with rows of old, dusty bookshelves, and the air is thick with the scent of decay.

Suddenly, you hear a faint noise coming from the back of the room. It sounds like the sound of pages turning, followed by a low, ominous chuckle.

You sense that you're not alone in the library, and your venari instincts are screaming at you to be cautious. You notice a hidden compartment in one of the bookshelves, and inside, you find another cryptic message:

"The Shadow in the Night has taken her. Follow the trail of darkness to find the truth."

You decide to search the library for more clues and hidden compartments. As a venari, you're trained to be thorough and meticulous in your investigations.

You begin to search the bookshelves, looking for any hidden compartments or clues that might have been missed. As you search, you notice that one of the bookshelves seems slightly out of place. You push on it, and it swings open, revealing a hidden room. You sigh again while saying " There's no way Mr. Blackstone isn't paying me extra".

Inside the room, you find a series of ancient tomes bound in black leather. The books seem to be emitting a faint, eerie glow. You can sense that these books are imbued with dark magic, then you say to yourself." How the hell does this rich bastard have all this".

As you flip through the pages of the books, you come across a passage that reads:

"The Shadow in the Night is a servant of the Dark Queen, a powerful and malevolent being who seeks to bring darkness and chaos to the world. The Shadow is a master of manipulation and deception, and it will stop at nothing to achieve its goals."

You realize that Elizabeth's disappearance is more than just a simple kidnapping. It's a part of a larger, more sinister plot.

Suddenly, you hear a faint whispering in your ear. It's a soft, raspy voice that seems to be coming from all around you.

"You'll never stop the Shadow," the voice says. "It's too powerful, too clever. You'll never find Elizabeth, and you'll never uncover the truth." You grin to yourself while saying " Interesting, Very interesting ".

The whispering voice in the library takes on a more ominous tone. The voice is not only trying to intimidate you, but also seems to be gloating about the fact that the Venaris are thought to be extinct.

You realize that you'll have to be extremely careful as you continue your investigation. One misstep could mean discovery, and potentially, disaster. Pondering onyour next move, you hear the sound of footsteps coming from the hallway outside the library. The footsteps are light, cautious, and seem to be trying not to be heard.

You decide to remain hidden and observe the newcomer. You carefully position yourself behind a bookshelf, watching as the person enters the library.

The newcomer is a young woman with long, curly brown hair and piercing green eyes. She's dressed in a flowing white dress that seems to shimmer in the dim light of the library.

As she moves through the room, you notice that she seems to be searching for something. She runs her fingers over the spines of the books, pausing occasionally to examine a particular volume more closely.

After a few moments, she stops in front of the bookshelf where you found the hidden compartment. She presses on the shelf, and the hidden door swings open, revealing the dark magic tomes within. The woman's eyes light up with interest as she examines the books. You can sense that she's powerful, and that she's not necessarily a friend to the forces of good.

Suddenly, she speaks aloud, her voice low but firm. "I know you're here," she says. "I can sense your presence. Come out, come out, wherever you are~."

You step out from behind the bookshelf, a playful glint in your eye. "Well, well, well. Looks like we have a little bookworm on our hands," you say, your tone light and teasing.

The woman's eyes narrow slightly, but a small smile plays on her lips. "And what might you be doing here, lurking in the shadows?" she asks, her voice husky and confident.

You shrug, your expression turning cold and blunt. "Just browsing. I like to read." You pause, your eyes locking onto the woman's. "But I think you know that's not all I'm doing here."

The woman's smile grows, and she takes a step closer to you. "Oh? And what else might you be doing here?" she asks, her voice dripping with curiosity. You raise an eyebrow, your expression playful once more. "Maybe I'm just looking for a little...inspiration," you say, your tone suggestive.

The woman's eyes flash with amusement, and she laughs, a low, throaty sound. "I think you might be looking for more than just inspiration," she says, her voice husky.

You smile, your expression cold and blunt once more. "Maybe I am. But that's none of your business." You pause, your eyes locking onto the woman's. "What's your name, by the way?"

The woman's smile grows, and she curtsies, her movements fluid and elegant. "My name is Arachne, an attendant to Mr. Blackstone" she says, her voice husky. "And you are...?"

You smile, your expression calm and confident. "My name is...Riven," you say, your tone smooth and flirtatious. "And it's a pleasure to meet you, Arachne. Arachne's eyes sparkle with interest, and she takes a step closer to you. "Riven, huh?" she says, her voice husky. "I like the sound of that."

You chuckle, your expression playful. "I'm glad you approve," you say, your tone light and teasing. "So, Arachne, what brings you to this...fascinating library?"

Arachne laughs, her eyes flashing with amusement. "Oh, just browsing, like you," she says, her tone suggestive. "But I have to say, I'm intrigued by you, Riven. You're not like the usual types I meet in this place."

You raise an eyebrow, your expression interested. "And what types are those?" you ask, your tone curious.

Arachne's smile grows, and she leans in closer to you. "The types who are afraid of the dark," she whispers, her breath tickling your ear.

You feel a shiver run down your spine, but you keep your expression calm and flirtatious. "I'm not afraid of the dark," you say, your tone smooth. "In fact, I find it...rather appealing."

Arachne's eyes sparkle with interest, and she takes a step closer to you. "I think we're going to get along just fine, Riven," she says, her voice husky. You lean in closer to Arachne, your voice taking on a flirtatious tone. "So, Arachne, what do you say we get out of here and grab a drink somewhere?" you ask, your eyes locked on hers. Arachne's smile grows, and she nods, her eyes sparkling with interest. "I'd love to," she says, her voice husky.

As you walk out of the library with Arachne, you check your surroundings and you notice that you are no longer in Mr.Blackstine's residence, 'so it's like a teleportation space' you say mentally. You can sense that she's not human, but you're not sure what she is. You also sense that she's powerful, and that she's hiding something.

You continue to flirt with Arachne as you walk, trying to get her to reveal more about herself. "So, Arachne, what do you do for fun?" you ask, your tone light and playful.

Arachne laughs, her eyes flashing with amusement. "Oh, I have my ways of entertaining myself," she says, her voice suggestive.

You raise an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really?" you ask, your tone curious. "What kind of ways?"

Arachne leans in closer to you, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "Let's just say that I have a certain...taste for the darker things in life," she says, her eyes glinting with mischief, you chuckle nervously 'she totally screams crazy'

You sense that Arachne is trying to tell you something, but you're not sure what. You also sense that she's not entirely trustworthy, but you're willing to play along for now.

As you continue to walk with Arachne, you notice that you're being followed by a group of shadowy figures. They're keeping their distance, but you can sense that they're watching you.You decide to ignore the shadowy figures for now and continue to flirt with Arachne, while also using your Venari senses to try and gather more information about the figures.

You turn your attention back to Arachne, smiling and laughing as you continue to chat with her. But at the same time, you're using your Venari senses to scan the surrounding area, trying to get a better sense of what's going on.

As you scan the area, you notice that the shadowy figures are moving in tandem with you, always keeping a safe distance but clearly following you. You also sense that they're not human, but rather some kind of supernatural creature.

You continue to gather more information, trying to get a sense of what these creatures are and what they want. But for now, you're not going to let them ruin your evening with Arachne.

As you walk with Arachne, you notice that you're heading towards a part of town that's known for its seedy bars and clubs. You raise an eyebrow, intrigued.

"Where are we headed?" you ask Arachne, your tone playful.

Arachne smiles, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Somewhere fun," she says, her voice husky. "Somewhere we can let our hair down and have a good time". The shadowy figures are getting closer, but you're not going to let them ruin your evening.

As you approach the entrance to the bar, you notice that the sign above the door reads "The Red Door" and you say to yourself 'That rich bastard is totally gonna pay me extra'

Arachne smiles and looks your way "shall we head in ?"
