Chapter 74 - Chapter 74 – Path of the Balance-Breaker

The cavern's silence was oppressive after the Judicator's disappearance. Only the faint echo of chains lingered in the air, as if the presence of that entity had permanently scarred the space.

Kael pressed a hand against his ribs, coughing. His armor was cracked, his blade chipped. Yet his eyes burned with defiance. "That thing wasn't supposed to exist in our world. If creatures like that are bound beneath Arcanis… then what the hell are we walking into?"

Mira slumped against a pillar, clutching her bow. Her hair clung to her sweat-soaked face. "Not just creatures. Judicator wasn't mindless. He spoke of the Mistress… and the Eclipse." She glanced at Rihan, her gaze sharp despite her exhaustion. "And he spoke of you."

The air thickened. Everyone's eyes shifted toward Rihan.

Lyra's healing aura flickered weakly as she steadied herself. Her voice trembled. "Rihan… what did he mean by 'Forgotten Divinity'? Why did he call you Balance-breaker?"

Rihan froze. He wanted to answer, but the System's warning still echoed in his vision.

[Restricted Information: Forbidden Deity Ties Detected.]

His jaw clenched. "I don't know." The lie tasted bitter, but it was all he could say without breaking whatever seal bound the truth.

Kael's stare was unrelenting. "You'd better figure it out, kid. Because if we're risking our lives beside you, we deserve to know what we're up against."

Elira, who had been silently tracing the cracks in the pillars with her glowing hand, finally spoke. Her tone was grim, detached. "The term 'Balance-breaker' isn't random. It's a title. Ancient lore speaks of chosen mortals who could disrupt the scales of fate itself. Their existence either saves worlds… or dooms them."

The words sent a chill down everyone's spine.

Lyra's staff dimmed as she sank down, whispering, "Then the Judicator was warning us. Rihan is tied to the fate of the Eclipse."

Rihan's fists tightened. He wanted to deny it. He wanted to believe he was just another warrior pulled into a cruel world. But deep down, the System's interference, the power of the Soul Link, the constant "special" quests… none of it was coincidence.

The silence stretched, until Mira broke it with her usual sharpness. "Sitting here won't help. If this Mistress really is moving her forces, then every second we waste gives her more ground."

Kael nodded reluctantly. "She's right. Our next step—"

The cavern rumbled again, interrupting him. But this time, it wasn't from the Judicator.

A deep horn sounded from beyond the bridge, carrying through the tunnels like a war cry.

Rihan's eyes narrowed. "That's not the Judicator. That's… an army."

---

The Encroaching Tide

The group staggered toward the exit of the cavern, their footsteps heavy with exhaustion. But the moment they crossed the threshold, their fears were confirmed.

The underground valley beyond the bridge was alight with torches—dozens, then hundreds, stretching across the darkness like a sea of fireflies. And marching beneath those lights were soldiers clad in jagged black armor, their banners bearing a twisted eclipse symbol.

The Cult of Eclipse.

Mira let out a sharp whistle. "Well… guess we found the Mistress's army."

Kael grimaced. "No. They found us."

From atop the front ranks, a figure stepped forward—a general clad in obsidian armor, helm shaped like a snarling beast. A jagged spear rested in his hands, radiating with corruption. His voice boomed across the valley.

"By decree of the Eclipse Mistress, trespassers of the sealed sanctum will be purged!"

The army roared in unison, the sound shaking the ground.

Lyra's face paled. "We can't fight that many. Not like this."

Rihan's System pulsed.

[Emergency Quest Triggered: Survive the Eclipse Host.]

[Objective: Escape the Valley alive.]

Rihan growled. "Figures."

The Desperate Escape

Kael took command immediately. "We run. Split formation—Mira, cover our rear. Elira, shields on the flank. Lyra, stay in the center and keep healing. Rihan—you're point. Get us out of this damned valley."

There was no time for debate. The first wave of Eclipse soldiers surged forward. Rihan slashed his blade, Soul Link flaring as he cut down the front line, carving a path through. Mira's arrows sang through the air, striking enemies before they could close in.

But for every soldier they felled, five more replaced them.

Elira chanted desperately, barriers of light flaring to block incoming spears. Cracks splintered across each shield, forcing her to layer one after another.

Lyra's healing spells barely kept up with the cuts and burns spreading across their team. Sweat streamed down her face as she whispered prayers.

And still, the cult's army pressed closer.

"Too many!" Mira shouted, loosing a fire-imbued arrow that detonated a cluster of foes.

Kael snarled, his blade glowing faintly with runes. "Then we cut through faster!" He swung in a wide arc, his strike tearing through armor like paper. But even he was slowing, wounds piling up.

Rihan's breath came ragged. His vision blurred, but the System's urgent prompts kept him moving.

[Stamina Critical.]

[Soul Link Overload Approaching.]

Then, from the front lines of the cult, the obsidian general hurled his spear. It split through the air like a thunderbolt, aimed directly for Lyra.

Rihan didn't think. He moved.

The blade of the spear tore across his side as he intercepted it, pain exploding through his body. He staggered, but he didn't fall. The Soul Link pulsed violently, his companions gasping as his blood hit the ground.

Lyra screamed, rushing to heal him. "Rihan!"

But the System flared with a new prompt:

[Balance Event Triggered.]

[Hidden Skill Awakened: "Chains of Judgment – Fragment."]

Rihan's eyes widened. His hand shot out instinctively—and spectral chains burst from the ground, glowing faintly with the same energy as the Judicator's. They lashed out, striking the front line of cult soldiers and binding them in place.

The battlefield froze.

Kael's eyes widened. "Those chains… that's the Judicator's power."

The cult's general snarled, his voice echoing. "Impossible! That power belongs only to the Sealed!"

Rihan's vision swam, but the chains held firm for a fleeting moment. Long enough to open a path.

"Go!" he roared. "Run!"

The group didn't hesitate. With Mira firing covering arrows, Kael tearing through stragglers, and Elira's shields deflecting the last desperate strikes, they broke through the enemy lines.

The valley behind them roared with fury, the cult general's voice promising vengeance. But they didn't look back.

Aftermath

By the time they reached a secluded cavern far from the valley, everyone collapsed. Lyra's healing light bathed Rihan's wounds, but her hands trembled. "That power… those chains… Rihan, what's happening to you?"

Rihan stared at his bloodied hands, still faintly glowing with the Judicator's chains. His chest heaved, every breath heavy. "I don't know…" he whispered.

But deep within, the System pulsed.

[Path of the Balance-Breaker Initiated.]

[Skill Fragment Acquired: "Chains of Judgment."]

[Warning: Power Unstable. Further use risks corruption.]

Rihan clenched his fists. He could still feel the Judicator's burning eyes in his mind.

Balance-breaker.

Forgotten Divinity.

Chains of Judgment.

And he knew… this was only the beginning.
