Chapter 21 - Escape

The three wolves leapt right at her, clearly catching Linda off guard.

She had been standing, staring at the phenomenon that happened right after she had killed the second wolf, easily forgetting that three remaining wolves were still charging at her.

Those precious seconds she had wasted while staring at the amazing phenomenon would have cost her, her life and that of the child she had just adopted.

Linda quickly focused on the other three wolves already leaping right her and she realized that she had been easily distracted.

She knew she couldn't dodge the wolves attacking from three sides, because if she did, the baby behind her would not be spared by the three wolves.

How could she forget that there were more wolves still attacking her?

She had mentally asked herself.

But with quick thinking and decision making, she decided to use her inmate magic (spiritual energy) in finishing off the three wolves all at once.

However, that would surely weaken her. This is because, as a witch, using a lot of spiritual energy had consequences.

But not withstanding, she used her inmate magic and created a large explosion that easily killed the three wolves.

At the last moment when the wolves were already sinking their canines into her skin and when she could already feel the pain of her flesh being torn apart, she released a ball of green light that exploded, immediately turning the three wolves into dust.

---

The aftermath of the explosion wasn't that destructive but smoke filled the air and dust clouded the atmosphere.

Linda let out a cough as she stood up on her feet.

Her face was filled with dust particles and the injuries she should have sustained from the explosion were already healed because of her outburst of spiritual energy.

The makeshift barrier she had created in order to shield she and the baby during the explosion, shattered. Mostly from the force of the explosion of spiritual energy.

She turned around to look at the baby, she had layed on the tree root beside her bag and the gathered firewoods. She noticed he was doing alright and he wasn't affected by the explosion she had caused.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

Though, the baby was strangely staring at her, eye to eye. It may have given her the creeps but she didn't think much of it.

Remembering that there were still ten more wolves, even though she took down five of them, she turned to look at her front.

The dust settles and Linda was able to clearly see the remaining ten wolves.

They were not sitting on the ground anymore. They seemed to have backed away from the explosion area, in order not to get affected by the explosion.

They were at least fifteen feet away from Linda.

The remaining ten wolves were no longer surrounding her and there was a way for her to still escape them.

Without thinking twice, she picked up her bag and slung it on her shoulder. She grabbed the baby, also adjusting the white swaddling cloth on his body before placing him comfortably in her arms.

She turned back to glance at the remaining ten wolves and she soon realized that they had no idea she was escaping.

Their vision may have been blocked by the dust particles and smoke, mostly from the recent explosion.

Deciding to use the opportunity to escape, she casted a spell on the gathered firewoods, especially since she wasn't ready to leave them behind. They were the whole reason why she came to the woods in the first place.

She quickly casted a floating spell on the gathered firewoods, using the last of her spiritual energy (inmate magic).

"Float My Beloved. Let your weight be as light as air".

Her eyes glowed green for a moment as green spiritual energy (green light) seeped from her hand in the form of tendrils and enveloped the gathered firewoods.

In a second, the firewoods were floating freely in the air, a few feet away from the tree root where it was earlier layed on.

But just as Linda was about to escape, the loud growls and roars of angry wolves took her attention.

With the baby still in her arms, she turned around to see the wolves charging at her, all ten of them.

Although, to her surprise and disbelief, the wolves were all glowing an ethereal white, the weirdly dark black fur, changing into white.

Their eyes carried a strange aura that proved that they were beings sent to kill her and the baby.

Though she may not know who sent them but she knew she couldn't beat them at all.

And that was when it came to her understanding that these beings sent to kill her may have been weakened while being in wolf form, maybe that's the reason she could take down all five of them.

And it also seemed that the beings may have been wanting to kill her and the baby in secret while also hiding their identity of what they are and that must have been part of the reason they turned themselves into wolves to kill her.

"Oh Shit!"

Linda shouted absentmindedly to herself.

She immediately knew she wouldn't be able to defeat them just as she had easily killed five of the wolves.

These beings that were once going undercover as wolves in order to hide their identity, are so bent on killing her that they are ready to ruin their cover.

In some matter of seconds, the wolves crossed ten feet and they were already sprinting at her.

Without thinking twice, she bent the wind to her command and immediately lifted herself up into the air, but not without sending the wolves a wind attack that blew away the ten wolves in different directions.

While up in the air, she controlled her floating firewoods to come over to her.

Linda even decided to spare a glance at the wolves she had just blown away with her wind magic but to her dismay, the wolves were already on their feet were also transforming into their real form.

Deciding hurriedly not to encounter the real beings that turned themselves into wolves to kill her, she bent the wind to her command and flew away from the scene in the direction that leads to her little house.

As she flew away, she also controlled the gathered firewoods to follow her up in the air. But not without accelerating her speed.

After some time, she looked back and she could see the area where she had been attacked by the beings in form of wolves.

The whole area was cleared up because of her explosion of spiritual energy.

Linda sighed in relief as she turned to look at the baby in her arms.

Surprisingly, he was asleep, even in all these chaos she was handling.

She smiled and focused on her flying in order not to loose concentration and crash down.

She just hope that beings won't follow her.

Unknown Pov.....

The witch was able to successfully take down five of the warrior Angels (wolves).

And thankfully, Angels are beings that grow weaker anytime they change into mortal form.

Like for example, if they assume the form of a human, a bird of more probably a wolf, they would be weaker.

Angels are decisively stronger when they are in the real form.

That's the real explanation why the witch was able to take down the five warrior Angels.

But I see the reason why the Angel of destruction had sent fifteen warrior Angels to assassinate the witch.

He must have thought about the fact that Angels grow weaker when they assume mortal form and so, he increased their numbers so they could overwhelm the witch.

Cause only one warrior Angel could kill the witch in seconds if the warrior Angel is in his real form.

Maybe that's connected to the whole fact about weakening the witch and tiring her out by not attacking all at once and by sitting down on ground while surrounding her.

Also, the warrior Angels must have assumed the form of wolves in order to assassinate the witch and the two reborn versions of the Angel of war in secret without my mistress knowing about it.

And it seems the Angel of destruction must have found out about my mistress's plans in bringing the Angel of war back.

But why does he want to compromise my mistress's plans of bringing the Angel of war back?

Aren't the Angel of war and the Angel of destruction brothers?

Wouldn't the Angel of destruction want his brother back from wherever his brother may be?

There is still a lot I don't know.

Clearing these thoughts from my head, I focused on the scene below me.

The dust had settled and the witch was able to kill those three other wolves before they could kill her with those dangerous canines of theirs.

The other remaining ten wolves had literally backed away from the explosion.

Thankfully, positively and fortunately, the witch was smart enough to take advantage of the dust particles and smoke. She used the opportunity to escape, making a fool out of those warrior Angels (wolves).
