Chapter 2 - Pokémon Champion

A next-generation game developed by Game Freak, which took five years to make and has been released for less than a month.

Not only does it incorporate Professor Frawley's holographic technology and Unova region's global online communication network, aiming to create the most realistic online Pokémon battles ever,

but it also obtained authorization from regional professors through the League channels, digitizing most of the known Pokémon data so far.

"Whoa, sci-fi movie level!"

Quincy raised an eyebrow.

No way GF really has this tech???

Though a bit absurd, this is indeed the very first Pokémon battle game in this world.

Because of this, Pokémon Champion has exploded online recently, even becoming widely known among Elite Four members and Champions.

Quincy checked on PokéTV and saw that eight out of the top ten trending searches were related to this game.

The other two unrelated videos came from Kanto, including one of Professor Oak's daily life shorts,

and the Cerulean Sisters' Water Waltz...?

"You really gonna stream that?!"

After scanning through the top ten trending videos, Quincy got a good sense of the current battle environment.

Due to geographical limitations, regions had very little interaction for a long time.

Only in the past decade with rapid internet growth did people begin to get some impression beyond their own region.

This led to a problem—

Most people don't even fully recognize their regional Pokédex, and those who do are considered exceptional.

Let alone using them in battles.

Even some Gym Leaders' tactics seemed a bit...

Simple?

"Fam, Infernape surviving on low HP then using Flare Blitz to counterattack is so hype!"

"Three Swords Dances later, Garchomp's attack reached 13,000!"

"Don't underestimate my bond with Kricketune! With Intimidate, we'll turn the tide!"

Without weird gimmicks, trainers are enjoying pure, passionate battles, filling the whole game atmosphere with positivity.

Noticing this, Quincy chuckled.

Though not a professional player in his past life, he had years of battle experience and often played in high ranks.

With his understanding, standing out among these pure-hearted locals wouldn't be hard.

More importantly—

In his previous life, he was a quirky streamer, so he was familiar with some of the more unusual and niche Pokémon strategies.

With highlights and funny plays, viewers would never get bored.

"So the key is how to build popularity."

Quincy pondered again.

He'd always thought Gym Leader strength was the main measure of a gym's quality.

But actually, no.

That's a high bar only for the official eight gyms in major tournaments—some regions even water down their eight gyms.

Like Kanto's Cerulean Gym, which has been roasted countless times.

They give badges with ticket purchases, but before Misty came back to take over, it was still thriving.

As long as a gym is self-sustaining, the League tends to be lenient with established gyms.

Normal gyms like Sunshine Gym are even more so.

"'Character' is the real key."

A great gym needs traits that attract challengers to stay in business.

It could specialize in a certain type of training, or have fun mini-games before battles like other Paldea gyms.

During his parents' management, Sunshine Gym's selling point was two elite trainers with different styles, drawing many skilled challengers.

Like Hoenn's Wallace, who gained fans by pure skill.

But clearly, Quincy didn't have that strength yet.

"My only advantage now is the information gap from being a time traveler."

He quickly realized this.

With many tactics from his past life still undeveloped here, that was his only way out.

Battling is undoubtedly the number one sport here, but the high barrier to real battles keeps many away.

Now with Pokémon Champion out and blowing up into a phenomenon, this was a huge opportunity.

So—

Want to save Sunshine Gym?

Become a top streamer first!

Build popularity first, then work on improving the gym and Eevee's strength.

This was exactly Brewlight Gym's path to success.

Get on the train first, pay later.

Make a name before the year-end assessment, get the gym back on track.

Problem solved.

As long as he survived these two months of growing pains, everything would be fine.

No time to waste, Quincy decided to act now.

"Eevee~"

Just as he made the decision, Eevee finished lunch outside and came in with quick little steps.

Quincy noticed Eevee had a paintbrush in its mouth, jumped onto the bed right by his feet,

then looked up with sparkling eyes full of longing.

"..."

Quincy wanted to say he had important things to do.

But with that adorable gaze, he couldn't say it.

Forget it, later tonight.

He shook his head helplessly, grabbed some drawing paper from the nightstand, and smiled at Eevee.

"What shall we paint today?"

Unlike other Pokémon, his Eevee had a unique hobby.

Painting.

Of course, from Quincy's god's-eye view, Eevee probably wasn't just interested in watching him draw.

In the past six months, whenever he was sad, Eevee sensed it immediately and clung to him to play.

Many sleepless nights after his parents disappeared were spent with Eevee's company.

Without it, Quincy probably would have given up.

"Eevee~"

After a head rub from Quincy, Eevee affectionately nuzzled his palm, then looked out the window.

Following its gaze was a large, impressive modern building.

Quincy vaguely remembered it—it had been built a while ago but seemed unoccupied.

"Alright, let's paint that."

He nodded and opened the window.

Warm sunlight poured in, making Quincy squint.

"Eevee…"

Eevee's eyes brightened at the gesture.

"Sorry to have worried you so long."

Quincy hugged Eevee and smiled.

Pokémon are really sensitive to emotions—Eevee must have had a tough time too.

"From today, let's revive the gym together!"

"Eevee!"

Eevee nodded emphatically, placing its soft paw in Quincy's hand.

As long as the trainer is happy, it'll work hard too!

...

Honestly, Quincy felt he wasn't very talented at drawing.

The painting he made after an afternoon's effort could barely pass as a sketch.

Did it look good?

That was a bit rude to ask.

But Eevee seemed to love it, so Quincy finally pinned it on the bedroom wall.

After interacting with Eevee and sorting out dinner simply, he finally remembered his real task.

To be a streamer, the first step was to change his username.

A good username and stream title would attract more viewers.

At first, he planned to go with PocketFanQuincy.

But on second thought, that name sounded unlucky—like someone who'd miss four Water Pulse attacks in a row.

So he settled on a more neutral name: UltramarineWing.

Stream title:

"Certified Gym Leader, Starting from Zero to Master Ball!"

Maybe because it was a new channel, shortly after going live, about a dozen viewers clicked in.
