Chapter 2 - Are You Sure

It had been a few days sense Nate was born, right now he was in his room, as Baby be could do much, so be mostly slept, which good for his parents and a bit worrying, Because of how quite he was.

So Nate tryed to make as much noise when he was awake not to worrie then, then one day as he was sleep someone came and talked to there parent as he was in a different room

Lily just blinekd as she sat on the couch, next to her Husband, as she was looking at the Woman seating cross them. "And tiy are sure about this?"

The woman, aka Yasaka spoke. "Yes Lily, I am".

Lily pinched the bridge of her forhead as she spoke. "Yasaka, we are good friend, we know that, we have know Eachother for a while, but how are so sure my Chilkd is the Prophecy Child the Yokai have been taking about for many years".

Yasaka sighed as he spoke. "Well, we are not completely sure, we though we will try this before going to Plan A".

Aaron titled his head as he spoke. "Plan A?".

Yasaka sighed as she spoke. "Check every baby that was born in Kyoto and maybe Japanese, until the time match when the Artifact Glowed".

Aaron blinked in disbelief. "That… sounds like a nightmare. Do you realize how many babies were born this week alone?"

Lily groaned, leaning back on the couch. "Yasaka, if you're wrong, you'll have every parent in Japan accusing you of baby-snatching. That's not exactly a great look for the Kyoto Youkai Faction."

Yasaka gave a small, tired smile. "Which is why I'm here, Lily. If it's your child… then this whole chase ends here, clean and simple."

In the next room, Nate stirred in his crib, hearing muffled voices. His infant brain was still sluggish, but the words prophecy child echoed faintly in his thoughts.

"…Oh no," Nate thought, tiny hands gripping his blanket. "Don't tell me I'm one of those chosen ones. I just wanted to grow up, get the Yo-kai Watch, maybe collect some buddies and chill. Why does it already sound like I'm getting dragged into some big, ancient destiny nonsense?"

He let out a tiny cry, half to vent, half to make sure his parents didn't think he was suspiciously quiet again.

Lily sighed, rubbing her temples. "Yasaka, you and the elders once thought I was the prophecy child. Remember that mess? And it didn't happen."

Yasaka lowered her gaze, guilt flickering across her face. "Yes… that was a mistake. But this is different."

From the folds of her sleeve, she produced the ancient relic — the same one that had pulsed with divine light the night Nate was born. The artifact looked inert now, but faint traces of light still lingered within its carved stars.

She placed it on the table. Seven stars, all dim but still warm.

"The night he was born," Yasaka continued, her voice firm, "all seven lit at once. That has never happened before. And now, even though they've dulled, the relic still glows faintly. Which means the prophecy child is close — very close."

Lily crossed her arms, unimpressed. Her voice went dry, almost sarcastic. "Close. Right. Well, Yasaka, I know at least half a dozen mothers in this neighborhood who've all had babies this week. You planning to knock on every door and wave this thing around like some supernatural pregnancy test?"

Aaron snorted, barely holding back a laugh.

Yasaka, however, didn't flinch. Her golden eyes stayed locked on Lily. "If that's what it takes, yes. But you and I both know… the relic doesn't lie. It led me to you before, and now it's led me here."

In the crib, Nate twitched.

"Great," he thought bitterly. "First week alive and I'm already a glowing blip on a magical GPS. What's next? Destiny tattooed on my forehead?"

At that moment, the relic pulsed faintly again — a tiny flare of golden light, timed perfectly with Nate's small yawn from the other room.

Aaron's smile faded. Lily's eyes narrowed. Yasaka only whispered, almost reverently:

"…He's the one."

The three adults walked into the nursery. Moonlight spilled through the curtains, painting the room in soft silver as they stopped by the crib.

Nate, who had been "asleep," cracked one eye open, blinking at the tall, regal figure standing beside his parents.

His baby brain screamed one thing loud and clear: 'Holy fuck, that's Yasaka. This is DxD! Oh no. Nope. Nope nope nope. I'm in one of those worlds'.

Yasaka leaned gracefully over the crib, her nine golden tails swaying gently behind her. In her hand, the relic stirred, its seven stars suddenly flaring bright gold as she brought it near Nate.

She smiled softly. "There. Proof."

Aaron stiffened. Lily groaned, massaging her forehead with the weight of ten headaches at once.

"There goes my plan," Lily muttered. "I was going to keep him blissfully ignorant of all this supernatural nonsense until he was old enough for me to pass the Watch. But nooo… of course fate had to fast-track everything."

Aaron gave her a sidelong glance. "Honey, in fairness, it's hard to keep a glowing prophecy kid low profile."

Nate, still staring at Yasaka, thought furiously, 'Wait, wait, wait—are they seriously talking about me like I'm some anime protagonist starter pack? This can't be real'.

The relic pulsed again in Yasaka's hand, golden light dancing over Nate's tiny form.

Yasaka's lips curled into the faintest smile. "Yes. He's the one."

'Great', Nate thought. ''Day seven of being alive and I'm already on a divine hit list. Perfect'.

The next day, Yasaka returned to the Adams' house, this time with a bundle in her arms. Wrapped in soft silks was a baby girl with golden tufts of hair, tiny fox ears twitching, and an aura that was… well, magical.

"Lily, Aaron," Yasaka said warmly, "I thought perhaps our children could meet. Kunou needs friends her age, after all."

Lily smiled politely, though Nate noticed the faint twitch in her eyebrow that said, This woman just dropped off Kyoto's supernatural princess like it's daycare hour.

Kunou was placed gently on the mat beside Nate's crib. Her little tails swished as she cooed and reached out with pudgy fingers.

Nate stared at her, deadpan.

'…Great. Just great. Me, an 18-year-old in a baby body, now expected to play peekaboo with an actual fox-magic infant. This is my life now'.

Kunou babbled, pressing her hand against Nate's face. Sparks of faint foxfire danced across her fingers—harmless, but ticklish.

Nate blinked, sighing internally. 'Yeah, fantastic. She can already do magic. Meanwhile, I'm stuck pretending to be impressed by rattles'.

Aaron chuckled nervously. "Heh. Looks like they're getting along."

Lily gave him a look. "Or Nate is silently questioning the universe."

If only she knew how right she was.

The next few years had passed and him and Konou had become close, even do it was not like that.

Ove the years, he got a few more friend, one of them was Someone he recognized was From the Yokai watch games, as it was Kaite Forester, or she goes by her Japanese name Fumika Kodama, which Nate though made more sense

Another one was Nate other Friend, from the game Bear or as he is know in the Japanese version Gorota which is his name in this Universe, Eddi or Imada as he is know in the Japanese version, and in this Au.

[Insert the images here]

When growing up, he was lovingly know by his friend as "The Boy Who is Sarcastic All The Time" which wasn't funny wrong but not right either it was only half the time, his mother laughed at that, he clearly got it for her

And Hailey, who the Universe decided to keep the Japanese names, 6 year passed and it was time.

Then the day came

The grand hall of the shrine had been decorated with lanterns, talismans, and banners proclaiming ancient symbols of the Yokai clans. To everyone gathered, this was a moment in history, the official beginning of a new age.

To Nate, it was Tuesday.

He stood there in his tiny sandals, plastic toy sword rattling against his back, face fixed in the most unamused six-year-old expression anyone had ever seen.

Yasaka, flushed but still trying to maintain her regal composure, cleared her throat. "You carry the fate of our people, Nate Adams. The Seven Stars themselves bore witness to your birth. You will bring balance, unite Yokai and humans, and…" She hesitated for the briefest moment before adding, "…stand beside me, in time."

The words echoed through the chamber like a prophecy carved in stone. The Yokai elders all bowed reverently.

Then Nate tilted his head, chewed his gum loudly, and said flatly:

"Great. I'm a prophecy baby. I hate it, fox lady."

The silence that followed was so sharp it could have cut through steel.

"…Excuse me?" Yasaka asked, ears twitching.

"Look, I already have homework. Now you're telling me I also gotta do world peace?" Nate said, kicking the floor lazily. "Do I get paid for this job, or do I just get yelled at whenever something explodes?"

One of the Tengu elders choked, trying not to laugh. A Kappa failed completely and snorted so hard water spilled from his jug.

Yasaka's cheeks reddened as she threw her hands up. "Most children would dream of being chosen by destiny!"

"Yeah, well, most children don't know destiny comes with bedtime and snack limits." Nate folded his arms, unimpressed. "Speaking of which—can I get some candy now?"

The entire solemn, ancient ceremony collapsed into chaos. Half the Yokai elders groaned. A few burst into laughter. Yasaka pinched the bridge of her nose. Lily covered her mouth to hide a smile, while Aaron was practically glowing in awe at the supernatural spectacle.

And from the back of the hall, Blazion muttered with pride, "Yup. Definitely Lily's kid."

The grand ceremony froze in stunned silence as Nate just turned on his heel and casually walked off, his sandals squeaking against the shrine floor.

The Tanuki Elder squawked, "W–where are you going, young one?!"

Nate didn't even glance back. "Going to play with Kunou."

The elders exchanged bewildered looks, as though centuries of prophecy had just been derailed by the attention span of a six-year-old.

"W–wait!" Yasaka stammered, ears twitching furiously, "But the training—"

"Can be done tomorrow!" Nate shot back without stopping, waving one hand dismissively as if this was the most obvious thing in the world.

The shrine hall went dead silent. Then, like a dam bursting, Lily broke into hysterical laughter. Aaron chuckled too, trying (and failing) to keep his composure. Blazion was rolling on the floor with a fiery mane sputtering sparks, Komasan was snorting "Oh my swirls!" between giggles, and even Lie-in Heart's stoic facade cracked into a chuckle.

Yasaka just stood frozen, eyes wide, tails twitching. "Of… of all the things to happen… this wasn't in the scrolls."

Meanwhile, Nate stomped off toward the courtyard, muttering in his head:

"Seriously, I've been listening to this prophecy crap since I was a baby. If I had a nickel for every time someone called me the chosen one, I could buy my own shrine."

Later that Day, Nate explain what happened too Konou as she was laughing at what Nate did after he explains to her.

She was not there for the announcement, do she knew he was the child of Prophecy because Yasaka had explained to her.

Nate just laughed with her. "Yeah, that is what happened".

Konou laughed as well, as she looked at him. "You really said that, too all does Century Old Yokai".

Kunou giggled so hard her tails wiggled. "You really said that… to all those scary old fox uncles and tanuki elders? You didn't even flinch?"

Nate scratched his cheek, trying to look casual even though he was laughing too. "Eh, I've heard them whisper about me since I could crawl. After a while, you get used to it. Might as well troll them a little."

Kunou's eyes sparkled. "You're so weird, Nate! But… kinda cool too."

For the first time since waking up in this new life, Nate felt a little warmth spread in his chest. Maybe playing the "prophecy baby" wouldn't be so bad if he had someone like Kunou to laugh with.

Konou stopped as she looked at Nate. "So Nate, what does my mother mean when she said in the Prophecy "Stand Beadise Me, In Time" what did Mother mean".

Nate blinekd as he spoke in his head. 'Right, um, how do I explain to this kid, that it basically means, I am gonna marry her mom, right kid logic, I should act like I don't know either'.

Nate pretend to be clueless as he spoke. "I don't know either Kunou".

Kunou tilted her head, ears twitching. "Really? You don't know either?"

Nate gave her his best innocent baby face. "Nope. Not a clue. Maybe it means… like… we'll be battle buddies?"

Kunou's eyes lit up. "Oooh! That sounds fun! We'll fight together like heroes!"

Nate chuckled awkwardly. 'Yeah, sure. Heroes. Totally not me marrying your mom in some fated fox-wedding of destiny'.

He forced himself to grin wider. "Exactly. Heroes."

Kunou beamed at Nate's "battle buddy" answer, hopping on her heels. "Then we'll be the strongest team ever!"

Nate forced a laugh. 'Yup. Strongest team. Nothing about weddings, nope nope nope'.

Behind them, Yasaka stepped into the courtyard, carrying a tray of tea. She caught the tail end of their chatter, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "My, my. You two already dreaming about being heroes together?"

Kunou nodded eagerly. "Uh-huh! Nate says the prophecy means we'll fight side by side!"

Yasaka chuckled, setting the tray down. "How sweet. You really do take after your mother, Nate—always ready with a cheeky twist to make things lighter."

Nate smirked, putting his hands behind his head. "What can I say? Family talent."

Yasaka ruffled his hair, not thinking twice about it. To her, he was just a witty six-year-old with too much sass.

Meanwhile, Nate muttered in his head: Good. She didn't suspect a thing. Operation "Don't Get Found Out by the Fox Queen" still going strong.

While Kunou ran off to grab a ball, Yasaka's serene smile faltered just slightly. She glanced at Nate, his plastic sword clacking against the stones as he trailed behind her daughter.

The prophecy is clear. A nine-tailed fox, beside the child of the Seven Stars. Yet Kunou only has six… Yasaka pressed a hand to her chest, hiding the thought behind a graceful composure. It should not be him. Unless… unless fate means otherwise. Three hundred years too soon. Hmph. I will figure out the words to tell her, when they're both older.

She exhaled softly, straightening her robes before anyone noticed her distraction. Outwardly, she was still the untouchable leader of the Youkai. Inwardly, she was quietly panicking about how to explain to her daughter that she might be destined to marry her best friend.

Meanwhile, Nate tripped over a rock, muttering: 'God, I hope she never reads minds. If she did, I'd be dead already'.
