"So, Immortals have enhanced hearing as well." She raised a hand to her chin, stroking the little strands of white hair it yielded. "Lucien and Lilith certainly didn't tell me that."
Ash's eyes widened, clearly confused.
'What is she talking about?' he thought to himself.
"What?" she asked, smiling wildly. "I thought you said you wanted to talk."
Silence filled the space for a second.
"Cain?" he asked, his voice almost a whisper. "Is Cain alive?"
She frowned, her eyes almost widening.
"Was he a friend?" she asked, hoping for an immediate answer. But it was silent. So she shook her head, observing his reaction. He didn't move, nor shiver; he only blinked.
"Does it upset you?" she asked again, lowering her hands to her lap, dark polished nails matching her dark-colored dress.
And to her surprise, Ash nodded.
Her eyes brightened clearly, beaming with interest.
But he wasn't finished.
"I envy them," he continued, his eyes for the first time that day locking directly with hers, as though fearing nothing.
The silence returned, as though waiting for him to proceed, so he did.
"Hanging, burning, cutting the throat," he said, "I tried everything."
Her brows furrowed as he continued.
"I thought it might work if I did it myself," he said. "Patrick said it would if I wanted it to." He hesitated. "But it didn't. Not even pulling my heart out or chopping my head off yielded any results." His head turned downward. "And right when it came off, right when I succeeded in splitting it separate from my body, all I got was pain… no darkness, no relief, no death."
She stared at him, still smiling. And unexpectedly, she giggled out loud, a voice so high that even Ash felt uneasy. She turned to him, half amused by his words.
"Do you even know what you are?" she said, still smiling. "Did your friends tell you?"
But before Ash could nod or try to answer, right when he was thinking of what to say.
"You are an Immortal," she continued. "The last of your kind." The sentence was exaggerated, and she knew it. "Beings known for their immortal bodies and vast intellect."
She laughed at herself, finding joy in the sound of her own voice.
"I'll tell you something, since I heard you like history." She leaned in, fixing her posture and sitting comfortably. "So I'll tell you something."
Ash frowned. But his eyes and brain remained focused.
"Once upon a time, there were two Immortals," she said, eyes gazing at him like he was a child. "These Immortals were undying and perfect. But life got too boring, and the only thing they ended up asking for was death."
Ash sighed deeply. He didn't expect this. He could only hope that he wouldn't fall asleep.
"Long story short," her words instantly surprised him, "they go to a witch, and the witch tells them that the only way for them to die is to conceive a baby and kill themselves."
NANI?
He was completely stunned by her words.
"Wait… that's it?" he unconsciously said, gaining a laugh from her once calm expression.
"Yeah, the other stuff is really just… boring," she said. "It's all about these trust issues and inbreeding, just really not… worth it."
And he frowned, not at all expecting what she was saying.
She shook her head in laughter while observing his expression.
"Okay, the important stuff." She sat up straight, clearing her throat and fixing her posture.
"Immortals…" It felt like she was starting from the beginning, "have absolute healing that can't be destroyed by anything except themselves."
Ash frowned.
"Unless…" She raised her hand, questioning him.
"They have… babies," he said.
"Ohhh, look at this!" she laughed, clapping her hands. "You are really smart. That's good, that's good." She paused, catching her breath.
'Is she crazy?' Ash thought, raising his brows.
"Okay, but like I said, immortality and intelligence are not the only things you guys have."
'When did you say that?' Ash thought inwardly.
"The blood of Immortals has healing," she said, smiling as she noted his surprise. "Your blood can grant anyone who drinks it the ability to revert to their youth."
It was the first time Ash had heard this.
"It's surprising your outcast friends didn't inform you of this… really," she said, leaning her head on her lap-raised hands. "It is basically common knowledge."
Ash still didn't reply. He just stared at her with many changing faces.
"Now, the outcast council, or what in your age you would call Elders, are a bunch of old women and men who drank your parents' blood," she said, ignoring the shock he was experiencing. "But see, here is the problem… when your parents passed away, the power in their blood disappeared with them."
She whistled with her words, shaking her head, arms folding around her chest.
"And before they died, they gave birth to you." She pointed toward him, fingers not shaking. "Completely breaking their tradition of a brother-sister type birth."
"Brother-sister type what?" he tried to ask.
"I told you," she smiled at him, "all of that is really boring and not important."
His confusion grew more with the passing seconds.
"Now," she clapped her hands once again, "where was I… ahh, yes, the council. See, they want your blood, since thanks to the generosity of your parents, most of them could even live past 300 years." She sighed, brushing her chin in thought. "Now that I think about it, even vampires don't live that long." She laughed.
"So, is that why you are holding me captive?" he questioned, causing her to frown at his sentence. "Because you want to take my blood?"
"Me?" she pointed at herself, completely bewildered. "How dare you make such an accusation?" She tapped a finger a couple of times on her head in thought. "Although that might be really exciting, I'm sorry to disappoint, but no," she said, now laughing. "I'm simply too old to be seeking youth, child." She leaned back in the chair, thinking to herself. "The only thing I believe I find any interest in is probably death." She yawned, patting her mouth. "And when he comes," she grinned, looking at him, "he will seek me like a lover."
Ash just stared at her for a while, completely taken aback by what she was saying.
"Then what do you want from me?" Ash finally asked, his face now lifted, eyes directly focused.
"HAHAHA."
