The Wolf's Attack
With a low, rumbling snarl, the beast lunged. Before Marcus could react, its long, sharp teeth sank deep into his left shoulder.
Marcus: "AAAGH!"
The pain exploded through him like lightning. The beast shook its head violently, tearing at his flesh as it growled.
Mom: (screaming) "MARCUS!!"
Marcus: (gritting his teeth, trying to stay upright) "MOM! GO TO THE CAR!! NOW!!"
Mom: (shaking her head furiously) "I'M NOT LEAVING YOU!!"
The wolf tried to drag him down, the eyes burning with otherworldly light. Marcus wasn't going to give in. Focusing every ounce of strength he had left, he recoiled a leg and kicked the creature's chest with great force.
Marcus: "GET OFF ME!!"
With a pained yelp, the wolf was thrown backward, crashing into a nearby trash can. The beast growled low, shaking its head as it tried to rise. Marcus fell to one knee, gasping, blood pouring down his arm.
Mom: (running to him) "Marcus! You're hurt!!"
Marcus: (clutching his shoulder) "I'm fine! Let's just GO!!"
With adrenaline coursing through his veins, Marcus struggled himself upright with his mother's help. Together, they staggered towards the car. The monster stood up slowly, shaking itself, its radiant eyes back on its prey.
Mom: "HURRY!!"
Marcus: (searching for the car keys, the metal tinged red with blood) "GET IN!!"
They slammed the doors shut behind them as the creature launched itself forward, hitting the side of the car with a deafening BANG! The car shook, but Marcus floored it and pushed the engine into gear. The creature gave a bellow and took off in a flash before disappearing into the foggy darkness of the park.
Mom: (shaking, voice quivering) "What… what was that creature?!
Marcus: (gasping, gritting his teeth) "I don't know. We have to get to a hospital. Now."
At the Hospital
The ER was in disarray. The moment Marcus stepped out of the car, a nurse noticed him and yelled for a gurney. His mother did not want to let him out of her sight as they rolled him in.
Nurse: "Sir, you're losing a great deal of blood. What occurred?"
Mom: (frantic) "He was attacked… by some… some monster. A wolf! It just came out of nowhere…"
Doctor: (raising his brow as he gazed at the severe bite wounds) "A wolf? In Seoul? We can deal with that later. Let's just let's stop the bleeding and administer a rabies injection."
Marcus: (grunting) "Mom… I'll be fine… I just…"
Mom: (clutching his hand, voice shaking) "I don't care, Marcus. You're my boy. You're going to be okay."
The doctor gave a sharp nod and wheeled him down the hall as his mom sank into a chair, brushing away tears. Somewhere, deep down, she felt this was just the beginning.
