Chapter 134 G5's Little Sun
At 5:30 in the morning, before the wake-up call sounded at the G5 base, a small figure with a crooked ponytail had already tiptoed into the kitchen.
"Liya, are you secretly learning cooking again?"
The cook, Jack, yawned, but skillfully handed over a child-sized apron.
"Good morning, Uncle Jack!"
Leah stood on tiptoe and tied her apron. "Today I want to learn how to make a sunny-side-up egg!"
She raised the small shovel, her eyes shining like two little stars.
On the training ground in the morning, Leah followed the recruits in practicing military posture.
Although her short legs made it difficult for her to stand properly, the way she held her head and chest high made Smoker couldn't help but smile.
"Report to the Instructor!"
She suddenly raised her hand and asked, "Why do we have to take the left foot first when marching?"
Binz, who was drinking water, almost choked: "Well..."
"Because it was the first Marine unit in history..."
Just as Ian was about to explain, Leah had already run to the side of the team and was carefully observing the pace of the soldiers.
You can often see a little head poking in and out from the crack of the door of the science laboratory.
Today, Leah finally plucked up the courage and came to the technical officer with an "automatic fish feeding device" she made out of scrap metal.
"Grandpa Brown, this turntable keeps getting stuck..."
She fiddled with the gears in frustration.
The technical officer adjusted his reading glasses, surprised to see that the eight-year-old had made a mechanical structure that looked quite realistic. "Little Leah, where did you learn all that?"
"Look at the machinery manual in the warehouse!"
Leah said matter-of-factly, "Even though I don't recognize many of the words, the pictures are beautiful!"
In the laundry room in the evening, Leah hummed an off-tune song while standing on tiptoe to hang out her little socks.
The soldiers passing by would always tease her:
"Leah, could you please help wash my uniform too?"
"OK!"
She actually picked up a pile of training clothes stained with motor oil. "But you have to teach me how to tie a knot!"
When Ain passed by after a day's work, he would always see this scene: in the sunset, Leah was like a busy little top, surrounded by a group of tough soldiers, some of whom taught her how to tie knots, some helped her wring out clothes, and some secretly stuffed candy into her pockets.
"Sister Ain!"
Leah, wearing bear pajamas, rushed into the office clutching a picture book. "Can we read 'Sora the Sea Warrior' today?"
Ian put down the document and held the little one on his lap: "Didn't we read it yesterday?"
"But..."
Leah played with the buttons on her pajamas. "I want to hear how Sora helps the lost dolphin..."
The sound gradually became smaller. It turned out that the little guy fell asleep first.
Ain gently carried her back to the children's room and found a G5 logo made of shells on the bedside table - it was crooked, but it was flashing with tiny lights.
The next day, in the science room of G5 base, sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting Madara-like shadows on the floor.
Eight-year-old Leah tiptoed and carefully pulled out a thick book, "Fundamentals of Electromagnetism", from the bookshelf. The gold-embossed gear pattern on the cover sparkled in the sun.
"So heavy..."
She muttered softly, but still staggered to the reading area with a book that was almost as big as her upper body.
The pink skirt swept across the ground, leaving a shallow trace.
Leah lay on the desk, pointing at the contents of the book word by word with her slender fingers.
She sometimes frowned, sometimes showed an expression of sudden realization, and did not notice that the clock on the wall had turned three times.
"So a magnet has two poles..."
"A coil of wire with current will... generate a magnetic field?"
"This formula is so interesting!"
She suddenly jumped off the chair excitedly, took out a handful of small iron nails and a thin copper wire from her pocket, and started fiddling with them according to the diagram in the book.
The iron nail wrapped with copper wire suddenly became magnetic and attracted the paper clip on the table.
"Wow! It really works!"
Leah clapped her hands in surprise, her eyes shining like stars.
When Ian gently pushed open the door, this was what he saw: a small figure standing on a chair, concentrating on fiddling with a homemade electromagnet, and didn't even notice that the ends of his hair were stained with ink.
"Leah?" Ian called softly.
There was no response, the little girl was completely immersed in the electromagnetic world.
Ian couldn't help but smile and tiptoed up behind Leah.
The notes spread out on the desk surprised her - although the handwriting was childish, the electromagnetic formulas recorded were completely correct, and even contained his own understanding.
"You can understand this at this age..."
Ian thought to himself, his eyes falling on the circuit diagram Leah was drawing.
"Leah?" Ian raised his voice slightly this time.
"Wow!" Leah was so scared that she trembled and the nails in her hand fell to the ground.
Turning around and seeing it was Ain, she immediately broke into a bright smile: "Sister Ain!"
Ian bent down to pick up the scattered nails. "What are you looking at so intently?"
Leah held up her homemade electromagnet as if she was showing off a treasure: "Look! I made it according to the book! It can attract things!" Then she demonstrated it proudly.
Ian looked at the improvisation in amazement. "You made all this yourself?"
"Um!"
Leah nodded vigorously. "I understand all the formulas in the book! Even though I don't recognize some of the words..."
She scratched her head sheepishly, "But I understand the picture!"
Ai En gently wiped the ink stains off her face. "So you're so interested in magnetism?"
Leah's eyes sparkled. "I love it! Magnets are so magical. They're an invisible force that can move things..."
She suddenly lowered her voice and said mysteriously, "And, I always feel like... I feel like I can sense them."
Ain's heart moved: "Feel it?"
"Um!"
Leah nodded seriously. "It's like... like they know which way they want to turn."
She tilted her head and thought for a moment. "Yesterday, when Brother Binz was doing his experiment, I could guess which magnet he was moving with my eyes closed."
Ian looked thoughtfully at the advanced electromagnetics book spread out on the table.
Normal children at this age would have difficulty understanding the basic principles of magnets, but Leah...
"Sister Ain?"
Leah tugged at her skirt. "Can I borrow this book? I promise I won't get it dirty!"
Ian came back to his senses, smiled and patted her head: "Of course. But it's time for dinner now. Brother Binz made your favorite strawberry cake."
"yeah!"
Leah jumped up and cheered, but she carefully put the electromagnetic device back into her bag. "I'm going to show this to Brother Binz too!"
On the way to the cafeteria, Leah skipped and chattered, "Sister Ain, the book says there's a Devil Fruit that can control magnetism! If I..."
Ian suddenly stopped and said, "Leah, if you are really interested in this, maybe it's possible."
Leah blinked her eyes: "Really?!"
In the afterglow of the setting sun, the shadows of the two people were stretched very long.
No one knows what fate this girl with a special sensitivity to magnetism will face in the future.
