"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 141: As Long As It's Mai, I Love Her

Nodoka couldn't help but marvel at the way Draconis and Mai handled their relationship. To an outsider, their banter bordered on bizarre, but Mai—who'd spent enough time with Draconis to see past his walls—knew exactly what it meant. This was him with his guard down: not the solitary, self-contained boy she'd first met, but someone who could be moody, playful, even a little clingy when he thought no one was watching. Mai found that side of him utterly endearing.

She spoiled him for it, and Draconis never let her down when it really counted. That was their rhythm—mutual trust, respect, and a kind of silent understanding that grew deeper the longer they were together. Sometimes a glance or a gesture was all it took to read each other's minds.

Draconis tapped his fingers on the table, calm as ever. "So, if school's sorted, work's the real headache, isn't it?"

Whether you were superstar Mai Sakurajima or idol Nodoka Toyohama, your schedule was always chaos.

Mai pulled out her phone, scrolling through her calendar. "Huh. Not much booked," Nodoka remarked, surprised.

"I shifted most of my shoots to August. For now, it's just a few interviews and one ad gig," Mai replied quietly. She shot Draconis a sidelong look, her tone casual. "I kept things light this semester. If I worked too much, someone would get lonely."

Draconis grinned, playing dumb. "I could always teleport in for a visit. Worst case, I'll just wipe the crew's memories every time."

Mai didn't miss a beat. "I meant the crew would be the ones suffering, not you."

Nodoka just stared. Please don't talk about mind-wiping entire film crews like it's normal, she thought. Then again… he was a devil.

Mai turned to Nodoka. "You shouldn't have any trouble with photoshoots or scripts, right? You've done this before."

"Uh… I…" Nodoka hesitated. Even with Mai's face, she didn't feel confident stepping into her shoes. Mai's success wasn't just about looks.

Draconis and Mai both noticed her doubt, but neither pushed. Mai just shrugged. "As for me, I'll have to cram on songs and choreography before I can keep up."

"Oh! The stage show…" Nodoka's eyes widened in alarm. She had a major performance coming up, which was why Sweet Bullet had been rehearsing late every night. Plus, there were weekend gigs—Mai was in for a crash course, and the pressure was real.

Draconis raised an eyebrow. "Mai, can you dance?"

Mai didn't answer. Whether she could or not, she'd have to figure it out.

"And Nodoka, do you have practice videos?"

"Yeah… here." Nodoka fished a disc from her bag and handed it over.

Mai loaded it into the player. The screen lit up with a three-hour countdown—wall-to-wall singing and dance tutorials.

Without hesitation, Mai stepped up to the TV and started following along, mirroring the moves. Draconis and Nodoka watched as she dove into the routine, body moving with surprising energy. She was a beat behind, sure, but to Draconis—whose dance expertise was limited to nodding at concerts—she looked flawless.

By the end of the song, Mai was breathless, sweat glistening on her forehead, chest heaving. She turned to Draconis, eyes shining with pride—a silent answer to any doubts.

"I'm starting to think there's nothing Mai can't do," Draconis declared, laying on the praise. Mai's smile was pure satisfaction.

"Hehe, did I surprise you?" she teased.

"If it was you, in your own body, dancing for me… yeah, I'd probably be shocked," Draconis replied with a soft chuckle.

Truthfully, not much could rattle him, even in life-or-death situations. Still, seeing Mai—so usually composed—cut loose like this was a surprise.

"I spent time in theater, you know. I'm more than just an actress." Mai flashed a confident, almost regal smile.

Draconis smiled back, gentle and sincere. "Honestly, this is exactly the Mai I love. Even if your appearance changes, it just proves my feelings for you go deeper than skin."

Mai's gaze sharpened. "So you don't like my looks anymore?"

"I love your body too. Actually, as long as it's Mai, I love her—doesn't matter if you look like Nodoka right now."

Draconis didn't care if Nodoka was listening—he poured it on, shameless.

Nodoka bristled. "What do you mean 'even if I look like me you don't mind'? Am I that unappealing?"

Mai let out a sigh. "Well, it's only hypothetical…"

She trailed off, looking away, a little uncertain.

Draconis caught her meaning instantly, like he always did. He smiled, reassuring. "Didn't I just say? I love what's inside. Even if you looked like this forever, I'd still love you."

He added, "And come on, Nodoka's a cute, real-life idol. Don't make it sound like it's a hardship."

Mai burst out laughing, her earlier unease gone.
