Chapter 77 - 《DXD: Transfer Student》Chapter 77: Undercurrents

Morning light spilled through the window as Draconis opened his eyes, the world outside painted gold by the rising sun. He stretched, breathing in deep, the air crisp and clean. Truth was, he hadn't slept a wink last night—he'd spent the entire night training.

After a wild evening with Rias, their fun had been interrupted when Asia walked in, her jealousy flaring. The end result? All three of them tangled together in laughter and play until exhaustion finally claimed Rias. Once she'd drifted off, Asia stayed up to train with Draconis, her Sacred Gear—Twilight Healing—amplifying his efforts.

With Asia's power supporting him, Draconis pushed himself harder, letting the resonance between him and his Sacred Gear surge. He ignored the pain, driving his magic to a fever pitch. He'd realized something important: simply maintaining resonance wasn't enough to keep growing stronger. As his strength and tolerance increased, he had to raise the intensity of the resonance, always pushing the limits.

It was like refining black iron into steel—the more purified he became, the greater the force required. One day, if he could withstand every negative effect of resonance, maybe that power would reach its peak. Maybe then, he'd truly master the Aegis of the Virtuous Monarch.

Asia lasted three hours before sleep claimed her, but the night's training had left Draconis feeling accomplished. He glanced at the two beautiful girls still asleep, smiled, and slipped out to buy breakfast.

By the time he returned, Rias and Asia were awake. Rias greeted him with a lazy smile, her bare skin and tousled hair reminding Draconis of last night's passion.

"Morning," he said softly. "Come eat. Are you two joining me for training later?"

Rias sat up, stretching. "Actually, let's skip it today."

She and Asia began dressing, piece by piece. Draconis watched as Rias reached for her black bra, stepping over to help with the clasp. She turned without a word, letting him fasten it, then he helped Asia with hers—she blushed but didn't protest.

Once dressed, Rias pulled her crimson hair free from her shirt and smiled. "We've got a new commission. All of us need to go investigate. We'll head out after breakfast."

Draconis nodded. Rias's commissions usually came from the Devil Duke—sometimes hunting Stray Devils, sometimes other tasks. This one was an investigation, and the details were still a mystery.

After eating, the group teleported to the school's club room to meet up. Akeno and Koneko arrived soon after, and together they teleported again, landing in front of an ordinary house.

A young man in a suit greeted them with a bow, fist pressed to his chest in formal salute. "Samuel, at your service, Lady Rias."

Rias waved off the formality. As a high-ranking devil, she was used to such respect. Only her Peerage members—Draconis, Asia, Koneko—treated her like family.

"These are my new Peerage members," Rias said, nodding at Draconis and Asia. "I don't think you've met."

Samuel smiled. "I'd heard about Lady Rias's new recruits, but this is our first meeting."

"Hello," Draconis and Asia replied in unison, and Samuel returned the greeting.

"Let's get to the point," Rias said. "What's with all the secrecy?"

Samuel quickly cast a magic barrier, then spoke in a low voice. "Recently, our people outside have been attacked repeatedly by fallen angels. We've lost several. The Duke suspects they're up to something and sent scouts to investigate."

He hesitated, glancing at Rias. "But when our agents reached a certain location, all contact was lost. The Duke fears the worst."

He produced a photograph, handing it to Akeno. She studied it, her eyes narrowing. "This is the New Cloud Building—about three kilometers west of Kuoh Academy."

Rias smiled. "Right in my territory."

"Exactly. That's why the Duke thought of you," Samuel said. "He hopes you'll take your Peerage and investigate, find out what the fallen angels are planning."

Rias nodded. "I accept."

It was her turf, after all—anything happening nearby was her responsibility.

She turned to her team. "Anyone ever notice anything odd about that building?"

Akeno shrugged, smiling. "Not really. Fallen angels are always stirring up trouble."

Koneko scowled. "I just hate those guys."

Draconis didn't answer immediately. Instead, he glanced at Asia.

Rias caught the look. "Draconis? Any clues?"

He nodded. "A few things come to mind…" He remembered the battle to rescue Asia—the fallen angels had hinted at some big plan, and Asia's Sacred Gear was crucial to it. Now, with Samuel's report…

Could all these incidents be connected?

The others grew thoughtful as Draconis explained.

Rias frowned. "It's possible… If so, we need to dig deep and find out what's really going on."
