Chapter 8 - 8. Revenge of the Spearows

"...Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" Ash waved his hand, telling Pikachu to use the Thunder Shock move on the Spearow in front of him!

Golden electrical light shot out from Pikachu, tearing through the sky and piercing into the Spearow's body.

The Spearow let out a tragic cry, its entire body's feathers charred from the electricity, finally collapsing powerlessly to the ground.

"Nice work! That's ten Pokémon defeated!"

Ash excitedly pumped his fist and high-fived Pikachu's tail in celebration.

With the defeat of this Spearow, it was now the tenth Pokémon they had defeated in the wild. At the same time, Ash could feel the Aura within Pikachu growing at a perceptible rate.

The Aura within humans and Pokémon, besides representing vitality, can also represent one's own strength.

The stronger the Aura, the stronger the raw power. This was one of the explanations included in the 'instruction manual' back then.

However, the explanation didn't include strength standards, so Ash wasn't sure what level Pikachu was at now. Rather... he didn't even know the current naming conventions for Pokémon levels.

Anyway, he knew that every time Pikachu defeated a Pokémon, its skill proficiency and its own Aura would receive a slight boost, and that was enough.

However, Ash also noticed that as more Pokémon were defeated, Pikachu's improvement slowed down. After defeating this tenth Pokémon, the Spearow, the growth of Aura within Pikachu was almost negligible.

Ash asked the 'big shots' in the group about this problem, and their answer was that because Pikachu's level was increasing, but the level of the Pokémon it battled hadn't increased much, Pikachu's progress in strength became increasingly slow.

This is like playing a game. When your level increases, fighting lower-level monsters gives less experience, and because your level increases, the experience you need also increases. With this back and forth, leveling up will definitely be slower.

So, to level up faster, you still need to battle some high-level Pokémon. That way, regardless of winning or losing, it will be greatly beneficial for the Pokémon's improvement.

After receiving 'his own' advice, Ash also planned to first reach Viridian City to see what the so-called Gym challenge was all about.

However, just as Ash was thinking this, a flock of Spearow came looking for trouble...

"Are these experience packs delivering themselves? Interesting... Oh my god!" Ash and Pikachu were originally rubbing their hands together, ready for a big fight, but after the initial dozen or so Spearow, another dozen flew out, and then another dozen.

All in all, the number of Spearow in the flock had already reached over a hundred!

Within that flock of hundreds of Spearow, Ash sharp-eyed spotted the Spearow he had defeated as his tenth Pokémon.

"They've brought their whole family for revenge! Is it that serious? What a grudge! Pikachu, it's up to you!" Ash waved his hand, choosing to send Pikachu into battle.

Immediately, Pikachu scurried behind Ash, shaking its little head frantically.

Whoever wants to go, can go, but he's not going!

Are you kidding me! He's just a little Pikachu who's just starting out. Making him fight a hundred Spearow, how is that different from asking him to die?

"Pikachu! Pikachu!" Ash, I choose you!

"Hey, hey! What do you mean! I'm human! You want me to fight over a hundred Spearow?"

"Pika? Pikachu Pika." Aren't you good at fighting? Now's your time to show off your skills.

"You little...!"

"Caw!" While Ash and Pikachu were arguing, the Spearow flock, acting as spectators, had lost their patience. They formed a tight group and plummeted towards the human and the mouse like arrows released from a bow!

Ash, who was still trying to argue, froze, then grabbed Pikachu and turned to run!

"Pika Pika!" Why are we running? Let's fight them!

"Fight them, my foot! Can't you see how many Spearow there are? Why don't you go?" Ash complained while holding Pikachu.

Although he had gained Aura, he didn't have a clear understanding of how strong his own power was. If Aura Ash were here, he would have eliminated this flock of Spearow with a flick of his hand.

But for Ash, who had just gained Aura, he was still a bit intimidated by these hundreds of Spearow.

With the enhancement of Aura, Ash's speed had completely surpassed that of humans.

Although the Spearow flock was fast, it was far from Ash's speed.

Pikachu jumped from Ash's arms to Ash's shoulder, gripping Ash's clothes steadily, and looked at the increasingly distant Spearow flock, a strange expression appearing on its face.

Is this the speed a human can run at?

As Flying-type Pokémon, Spearow's speed is definitely not slow, at least much faster than normal humans, but Ash's current speed even surpasses that of Spearow. This phenomenon can only be described as strange.

But thinking about it, since Ash could defeat him bare-handed, it didn't seem so unreasonable that he could run faster than a Spearow could fly.

"Pikapi~" Take that!

After confirming he was out of danger, Pikachu made a face at the Spearow flock.

He had only defeated one Spearow, yet the other party called out hundreds of their kind for revenge. This desire for revenge was simply too strong, disgustingly strong!

So Pikachu chose to disgust them back!

If he couldn't beat them, couldn't he at least taunt them?

Looking at Pikachu making a face, the Spearow flock became even angrier. They desperately flapped their wings, but found that no matter what, they couldn't catch up to the human in front. In fact, the human was even widening the gap, and if this continued, they would probably lose him!

"Caw!" Among the Spearow flock, a few higher-level Spearow let out sharp cries, and then their speed suddenly increased by several times!

Skill - Quick Attack!

Under the boost of Quick Attack, those dozen or so higher-level Spearow rapidly closed the distance between the two sides!

"Pika! Pikachu!" Ash, run faster! They're catching up!

"What? I clearly pulled away!" Ash turned his head and saw that, just as Pikachu said, a dozen Spearow were already closing in!

"I'm telling you, don't force my hand! I just don't want to fight you, that doesn't mean I'm afraid of you!"

The Spearow flock closed the distance to fifty meters.

"You can still leave now, it's not too late to turn back!"

The Spearow flock closed the distance to twenty meters.

"I'm really going to act... Damn it, Aura Sphere!" Ash saw that no matter what he said, he couldn't stop the Spearow's flight, so he gritted his teeth and extended one hand towards the Spearow flock.

Blue energy gathered in Ash's palm. In less than a second, a dark blue Aura Sphere formed in Ash's hand, then shot out!

The rapidly flying Spearow flock never expected the human's talk of counterattacking to be real. For a moment, they had no chance to dodge, and the Aura Sphere exploded directly in the center of the dozen or so Spearow in front!

"Boom!"

A black mist from the explosion rose from the lush green grass. Ash also turned around, his feet scraping the ground as he stopped his escape.

This was an Aura Sphere condensed with fifty percent of his power. He wanted to see what kind of damage this attack could inflict on the Spearow flock. If he could defeat more than five Spearow, then he wouldn't run anymore!

Like to chase? Today, I'll play with you until the end!
