*~Gabrielle's POV~*
I stood right in front of the window, watching the events of the ball unfold below me. Wolves entered the grand hall in their finest outfits, laughing and merry.
I could even see my sisters playing with their mates. But I hadn't seen my mother yet. Maybe it was the angle. Or maybe, because of this pain twisting inside me, I wasn't looking clearly enough.
Then Penny walked into the room. I turned, blinking in surprise at her—she was wearing an exquisite ball gown. She twirled around, smiling proudly.
"Oh wow, Penny, you look good," I said, and she chuckled.
"Yes, I spent a thousand to get my hands on the finest silk," she said, tossing her hair.
"And you also look good, Gabrielle."
"Yes, you picked the dress," I reminded her. She nodded, and I turned back to the window.
"When do you think Lucien will come for me?"
