Chapter 72 - Never Mess with a Belmont

"She could have been a perfect agent for The Order. Too bad she broke the sacred rules," said an agent as he looked at the woman's corpse.

"What's going on?" Tyler tried to process what he was seeing at that moment.

Jonathan looked at Tyler coldly and warned him, "Don't play games with me. You may feel powerful because you're a monster, but that strength you're so proud of is insignificant to me."

That was the reality—even Tyler could feel it. Jonathan could kill him if he wanted to, because he belonged to the oldest family of hunters ever recorded.

Everyone had heard of the Belmonts. Some were supported by a spiritual guardian who granted them supernatural strength, capable of wiping out everything around them with ease.

It was even said that the ancestors of that family defeated Dracula and killed Death itself. How powerful must this family of hunters be to fear no supernatural being, no matter where they went?

"I still don't understand what's happening…"

"What's happening is that woman got into your head, and now you have no control over your emotions, understand? When you finally realize whether it's really you doing these things, then you'll understand what's going on." Wednesday thought Tyler was being controlled, but the truth was, he liked being controlled.

"Ha ha ha… Controlled?"

"Huh?" Wednesday showed surprise at the change in Tyler's demeanor, as he seemed to have revealed his true personality.

"So there he is—the real Tyler. I wonder if that rebellious side of yours can be tamed by The Order," said Jonathan, seeing that everything had come to light.

"You knew about me from the start?"

"It wasn't a difficult task. We know about your mother, so it was natural for you to inherit her abilities."

The Order was made up only of hunters, but Jonathan had the idea of creating his own elite group.

Jonathan understood this, and he hoped Tyler did too. "When we found out, we considered many options—you were the best one. A monster outside Nevermore? It would be incredibly stupid for students who were taught stories about hunters since childhood to do something foolish in this town, which is monitored by The Order."

"You're smart, I'll give you that… Oh wait, no—you've just got a group that licks your boots and makes you think you're cool, but you have no idea…" Tyler muttered as he was dragged out of the cafeteria.

"You don't know anything. You're just a kid with personality issues." Despite being around the same age as Tyler, Jonathan was far more mature.

"What right do you have to say that?"

"My duty is to maintain control. I don't have the luxury of dealing with diplomatic issues between dark entities, and I don't waste time worrying about the safety of people monsters use to threaten me."

Jonathan stepped closer, unafraid of a surprise attack, and said, "Do you know why that is? We're exterminators—agents of the highest level, trained to kill. Don't compare us to simple hunters; we feel nothing when we lose civilian casualties."

Tyler didn't attack. He knew there was little chance of escaping Jonathan and the dozens of other agents ready to capture him. "That's ridiculous…"

"I won't kill you. The Order will decide that. There have already been too many deaths today," Jonathan said, refusing to take another life.

Wednesday felt relieved knowing Tyler wouldn't be executed.

"Do you feel sorry for your friend?" Jonathan asked, noticing Wednesday's reaction.

"Pity, mostly," said Wednesday without showing any emotion.

"He'll be fine. As long as we find his mother, she'll pay for everything. But in this line of work, things are never that simple—cases like this will happen every day."

"What would be the point of dark entities if they didn't cause tragedy wherever they go? Feels like home," Wednesday said as she left the cafeteria without another word.

Jonathan sighed as he watched her walk away. This was the reality of their world—something no one could truly control.

Like a priest, all they could do was contain the darkness and prevent it from spreading across the world. Many had tried to exterminate it at its roots, but more always appeared—again and again.

An endless chain of dark entities, emerging one after another.
